Richard Dawkins on The Art of Quote Mining - Part 3
watch the clip, notice how Dawkins only acknowledges the possibility of life being seeded on Earth IF an intelligent designer existed, notice that this designer would have some origin that could be explained, weep creatard tears, and notice how you fumble about in desperation to cling to your mythological nonsensical worldview for fear that you will, in fact, die and be gone forever.
@ndrthrdr1 Didn't I say this already? When someone says "possible" or "possibility," he is actually saying "possible" or "possibility" that he doesn't know what is talking about. Please start thinking like a real scientist. Stop using the word, "possible" or "possibility."
@ndrthrdr1 Please define your terms if you are a real scientist or have scientific training. What scientist uses a word, "forever?" You Dick Dawkins will say that forever started from extra-terrestrial. Does forever have a beginning or the end? What is worldview? A room with a view to the world? Please define the limits of your words, such as who, what, when, where, why, how, while, whence, which, etc, etc. Thanks.
The Bible says in Genesis 1:24-31 that all land animals (so that includes dinosaurs) and people were created on the same day. The geologic record shows that the large dinosaurs died out at least 65 million years before humans showed up on the planet. Figure it out. The Bible is just old myths and legends, not truth. Religion is like history class - without the facts.
Have you watched this movie? I just did and I'm an atheist. There do seem to be many credible scientists that claim there are many holes in Evolution Theory that are not being addressed because of the Evolution/Creationism ongoing war. It's true that science is big business and isn't always about getting the truth out. I have seen mainstream science being less than honest in other areas and one shouldn't put "faith" in everything science is telling us right now. Watch the movie.
@CaneFu lol. you might be an atheist, but you sure are not in science. there is no "mainstream" science, since it's not on TV, but if you think the people shown in the movie are real scientists you are mistaken. The couple of real scientists they've interviewed for the RETARDED "movie" were cut off mid sentence and quote-mind to death. SO STFU noob!
Actually, there definitely IS mainstream science - that which is financed with government resources - or maybe you don't live in the United States to know about this. Name-calling? You just lost all credibility.
@CaneFu That doesn't answer my question. I agree to some extent with you though. Yes, scientists are human beings and thus imperfect like the rest of us. But acknowledging that fact doesn't begin to explain how one would teach "intelligent design" in a class room...as a SUBJECT. My point is that there is nothing to teach! It is merely belief which can be expressed in like one sentence -- "God did it"...Okay, fair enough. That's what some people believe. Now on to the evidence.
I NEVER said that Intelligent Design should be taught in the schools or that is has any credibility whatever. You like to put words in other people's mouths obviously. I'm just saying that if there are indeed flaws in Evolution mainstream science will suppress them. Also, if there is an alternative to evolution that in no way has to be a "god". It could very well be that we are the products of an unknown and discussed cause that no one has even thought of yet.
Sorry. Yes I see what you're saying.. totally agree with you. I find many faults with Evolution theory as it is currently stated, especially concerning the role that natural selection plays in creating new species. Also, evolution does not even begin (nor claim) to address the origin of life in the first place. So Creationists are constantly attacking evolution theory but they are doing so from the wrong angle and this causes evolutionists to sometimes overstate their theory in defense
The problem with Creationists is that if they think they can merely discredit evolution then their god must exist - they think it is only an "either or" - just 2 choices -,and without presenting any evidence whatever for their god. I don't see it as an "either or" but rather a limitless choice of possibilities that may as of yet be undiscovered. It really be nice if the politics could be taken out of science.
@fotwunny "It's a single class, 5 minutes long, one sentence, no facts, no explanation, no effect. Just a dumbass statement of wishful thinking and illiteracy
How am I expected to watch a movie with tears in my eyes the whole way through? Excellent movie, emotional, wonderful movie as I watched it at Free Movie Zone . n e t
Hahaha. No Intelligence Allowed refers to creationism not being allowed?! HAHAHA Creationism = Intelligence now? The age old marketing tool of telling people the opposite of what they know to be true to get some attention. No wonder why he was talking all that nonsense on O'Reilly, he's in it for the money... after all he had this movie that he needed to sell right? What a tool.
It's apologetic pseudoscience for the ignorant to keep clinging on to an antiquated theological fantasy without having to learn actual science or to think for themselves.
@etriganthedemon Now I haven't watched this movie yet, although I most likely will tonight, but I believe this movie is about scientists giving their reasoning behind why a God must exist, and when they do so, they are kicked out of the scientific community. Shouldn't science be willing to let anyone put up their point, for debate. Isn't that the very root of where evolution came from? Putting ideas on paper and letting people review them?
The bible is a collection pre-medieval goat-herder folklore and barbaric morality, just like Islam's Qu'ran.
Ever since Darwin and now with the internet, the world is slowly outgrowing the infantile religious phase of its social evolution. The future will have little place for unsubstantiated mysticism and arrogant presumptions of insight into the mind of an undetectable magic overlord.
Those who cling to religious dogma are self-righteous egoists with little integrity
I'm sure Ben was quite a competent lawyer, and perhaps to a slightly lesser extent economist. However, his film and interviews has shown us that he is completely out of his depth when it comes to tackling evolutionary theory. He doesn't even understand the basics of the theory he so pathetically tries to slam, and is just an ignorant twat when it comes to evolution by natural selection and the scientific process.
...which is why he asked Richard Dawkins, who understands more about it than you do, about it. Apparently Dawkins' testimony wasn't good enough for you. ...why are you an evolutionist if that's the case?
Well Ben didn't ask Dawkins to explain even the basics of evolutionary theory to him. What's the point of understanding rhetoric and debate if you don't even understand the basics. Ben only asked Dawkins about the existence of God. Look at the clips of Ben promoting this garbage film. He refers to evolution as "random selection", criticises it because it doesn't explain the origin of life (like most scientific theories), and believes that science leads to death, and belief in god doesn't!
Well that's the thing--evolutionary scientists are hypocritical for balking at the theory of intelligent design for not submitting a precise how, because evolutionism does not have a precise how either. That's the battering ram of the evolutionist's argument, is that Creationism does not have all the answers and science does. Science does not, so their argument becomes nothing.
Creationism, on the other hand, never argued that faith needs all the answers. So between two sides, neither of which can explain it, only the one who never claimed they could (Creationism) is left consistent with their own arguments.
No no no, scientists do not balk at it, they are frustrated with it. Frustrated that this nonsense dares to call itself a scientific theory, frustrated that it is convincing people that there is a serious scientific controversy, frustrated that it is suggesting that the scientific method is flawed and needs a special legislative boost, frustrated that it creates a false dichotomy between religion and science, thus convincing students that science might conflict with their religious beliefs,
but mostly frustrated at its complete disregard and disrespect for the scientific method. The nonsense that calls itself ID has had decades to present any scientific evidence to the scientific community, and it hasn't done so. It doesn't go to conferences to present its research, it doesn't try to win a scientific consensus because it knows that it can't.
Instead it is using political support from scientific illiterates to appeal to school boards across America to try and have their junk injected straight into the classroom, without it being recognised as a scientific theory before hand. The proponents of the ID theory show complete contempt for the scientific process and are willing to jeopardise America's position as a leading, scientific country just so that they can promote a hidden religious agenda via a pseudo-scientific guise,
supported by people who do not have backgrounds in evolutionary theory, thus failing to even understand the errors in their own objections. It's disgraceful and they should be ashamed of themselves to continue to do what they do. The effect is already noticable as there are undergraduate science students who do regard ID as a scientific theory. That is frightening! Furthermore, scientists NEVER argue that a theory needs all the answers, or the minor details.
There are still gaps and areas of disagreement in evolution, but it demonstrates complete warped logic to suggest that because science hasn't yet figured out certain areas then we should consider ID. My advice to the ID proponents would be to look at what usually happens when there is a gap in a theory. The answer is, scientists work at it and they find the answer!
What scientist really want to look at a problem and say "this is too difficult for us to figure out, therefore an intelligent agent must have done it"? This is not how science is done.
The theory of evolution was postulated due to effects which became evident over time.
If you truly disagree with the scientific postulate (which has been thoroughly tested using numerous techniques), why don't you submit your own scientific paper? No doubt you will only submit a single sentence "God made us."
Additionally, if creationism were true, why is it not evident scientifically?
Ben Stein uses creationism. He knows that by supporting HIS god theory, he is encouraging U.S. to support Zionism. The good Christian and the good Jew against the bad...anything else. It's US against THEM...the terrorists. He's just a manipulating Zionist.
Anyone who calls Ben Stein an idiot instantaneously loses all credibility, because the board of admissions at Yale Law School would like a word with you... to explain what a genius Mr. Stein is before promptly rejecting your application.
Stein himself refers to all universities in America as "Temples of ignorance" and he studied LAW, not physics or biology which might have given him some understanding of the subject he had decided to make a movie about.
First, he has a considerable understanding of rhetoric and debate, which is all one needs to understand what goes on in conversation. For science, he interviewed the best from both sides. The result is such that...well, the evolutionists aren't satisfied with what their best had to say. Think about it.
If you listen to any of his interviews on the topic, it's quite clear that he hasn't anything close to an understanding of evolution. He makes stupid statements about "lightening hitting a puddle of mud" and out comes life....absurd caricature of a theory that's much much more sophisticated and supported than that level of mentality. I used to think he was possibly bright when he had his quiz show, but this kind of ID nonsense killed that impression.
no, the movie is full of appeals to emotion and consequence, and plays connect the invisible dots, has factual errors and quote mines galore. its a waste of money, and notice how bad the reviews are :)
Ben Stein grasp of Science is so pathetic. How can anyone prove ID? He's a 2 bit right wing mouthpiece who cranks out garbage to pander to utter morons, his grasp of Science is grade school. He doesn't believe in Creationism himself yet he puts out trash to jerk off all the rubes like the con mouthpiece he is.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
u notice everyones getting mad at this movie when atheists have had there fair share of cuts at the christian comunity, all this vid does is give evidence as to why they think one way isn't right, it's just a bunch of facts so people don't get so excited!
actually, not facts. Distortions. Not evidence, propaganda. The difference is truth. This movie doesn't have a shred of truth. They also used nefarious measures to gain audience with a lot of the scientific professionals depicted in it. D oyu really think dawkins would have met with creationists? Not worth his time.
actually its a bunch of propaganda based on a biased point of view. The Truth is not negotiable, and ben doesn't even know the definition of Evolution.
Furthermore, you are precisely fit Ben's target audience. You think there is a dichotomy between science and religion. You literally set the argument up between Atheism and Christianity, as though Evolution is the science of Atheism.
IF creationists actually had ANY evidence then they would be showing it not crying because the scientific community doesn't respect people that have imaginary friends.
The scientific community is being a lot kinder than the church.
No torture, No imprisonment, No inquisition ! ! !
YOU ARE WRONG stop crying and GROW THE FUCK UP ! ! !
@Kingofprinces85 the bible is the word of god because the bible says so and we know the bible is infallible because the bible is the word of god because the bible says so and we know the bible is infallible because the bible is the word of god because the bible says so and we know the bible is infallible because the bible is the word of god because the bible says so and we know the bible is infallible because the bible is the word of god because the bible says so.
Wow, to see everyone raving on a movie basically spewing false scientific propaganda is amazing.
This movie was just going around the world asking questions that made no sense and misunderstanding answers.
Ben Stein isn't even taken seriously when it comes to education, yet he feels smart enough to outsmart minds who's accomplishments has earned them Nobel prizes, and further advanced Human knowledge.
Well, its my personal opinion. It wasn't for your benefit. No one ever asked you to believe it, or not see the movie because i said its bad. Do you really read you tube comments to make your decisions or what?
Keep my smart talk to myself?...........so you can smear your personal opinions, aka beliefs, around without logic or evidence like you claim we believers do..........but I have to keep silent my beliefs?
Oh. now i see. your are one of those smartass religious guys who talks about evidence. :)
if you've seen expelled, you would have heard the darwin quote ben stein uses from "the descent of man". Now if you have any idea, you'll realize how bg a liar stein is.
But you won't get that, will you. For you anything which supports intelligent design is the truth. Dont talk about evidence and logic, coz u have none
do you have any idea how fucking stupid your comments are? this movie is utter shit. ask anyone with a fucking brain.why can't christian morons accept it?
this guy is a fucking idiot. wtf is ''big science'' anyways? that doesn't even make sense. there's science, and there's not science, there is no ''big science''.
does anyone know what the movie is about its not about creationisim persay its about how in some science circles they wont allow the idea..90 percent of you never even watched the movie so how can you comment
I heard they didn't tell the complete story or something, (the creationist who got kicked out). I could send you a link if you want so you can get the specifics.
Well the movie was all I expected it to be showing how academia expels ideas if they include God (or someone who is intelligent who could have gotten this whole universe in the order that it is in. A true scientist will question how a thing comes to be physically, while source is not found. For instance, if a song is presented to a musician they can talk about the song with all the knowledge they have, but this does not talk about the source. Dawkins admits he doesn't know the source.
Yeah, no one knows the "source" because there is just no vlaid evidence. The point is that creationists claim to know the source without any proof or evidence at all
I saw the film... It's not really that compelling, I mean BEn is asking the question that trumps all questions; how life beagan. Not only is this question 1 of the most ambigous questions, but the answer could easily be just as asinine as the Big Bang theory. I think Ben Stein should read some of Terence Mckenna's literature or listen to him speak. I found his film really shallow and just unenthusiastic even when someone else is talking in the movie.
The film panders to dum creationist bigots that arent worth mentioning sorry it makes me feel sick how religion just stacks fossolised religious shit 6 miles high
Will someone please tell me what the "other side" is? What is the "theory of Intelligent design"? As far as I know it consists of one sentence: 'God did it.' How is that a theory? What predictions does it make? What does it explain? Doesn't it raise all sorts of unanswered questions like: 'what is God?' Until there is a well worked out alternative to the general principles of evolution, what self-respecting scientist would just throw evolution out the window?
the only problem i have is that schools saying that evolution is true say that God is false because you can't put Him in a test tube. It is not just a supposed science class, but a philosophy class as well. If you tell people we are evolved because you can't prove there is a God then they will act their lives out accordingly. Please don't tell me students don't think about these things.
Berlinski is awful. He will take you in circles and circles but he will always come back to "But its still not enough, I sense God did it. OMG look at that sunset, its God!"
'The film Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed misappropriates the Holocaust and its imagery as a part of its political effort to discredit the scientific community which rejects so-called intelligent design theory.'
I think Daniel Dennett said it best when he said that using "Faith" in an argument is like using "My friend Jane". To any argument one can claim that it must be true because my friend Jane told me. Well, who is your friend Jane? Oh, she lived up the street and she knows "EVERYTHING".
you need alot of faith to believe that billions of years ago we evolved to what we are today. Oh that's right, you have a few skulls that look like apes or humans. I guess the evolution argument is over. You win.
We have quite a few skulls. We have a Sahelanthropus skull, many Ardipithecus skulls, many Australopithecus skulls, several Panathropus skulls, and many, many Homo skulls. The start of modern human evolution from a clade of mammals began roughly ten million years ago.
We have every major step from the start of bipedalism to man as he is today, including, with the Paranthropus lineage, human-like apes that went extinct.
We evolved. The fossil evidence is conclusive. Stop being dishonest with it
But using the geological formation. This disproves evolution. Because some so called million of years extinct fossilized animals were found in very low layers of the formation. Not only that if it takes million of years to formed a human being. Then why it the evolutionary process of human being stopped in 10,000 years. This was according to the Evolutionists and many supporters. In accordance to the field of biology. The process of evolutinarytheory is advancing and highly in degree of interm..
Geology reinforces evolution's timescale for fossils. I think you may want to read up on geology some more to see that rocks don't stay put, and the layer is not the only way to determine the age of a fossil.
Humans diverged from a common ancestor of the chimpanzee over a million years ago. Yet neither the chimpanzee nor the human stopped evolving. No one who studies evolution ever said evolution stopped.
Why do you need a creator of any kind? Could it not have always been there? Infinity is not that difficult to imagine.
I am willing to accept the idea of creator as some sort of entity outside of our universe or dimension. I do, however, have a problems with Christian's idea of creator which is a beared man like being looking down at us from the sky.
that bearded man looking down on us would be santa clause in his sled. just kidding.
belieing a in judeo-christian God means he also is not just looking, but in involved in peoples' everyday lives. I could not recount how many times people have spoken to me at church about my life without knowing details that i could only know. Not to mention many answered prayers. But it is a matter of faith in God.
My fascination is with people who attribute to something they've never seen nor have any evidence of, as the being that controls, does and knows everything. None of the different sects interpret the supposed sacred words the same.
So which one of these should we be teaching for ID? (Just to show another reason why ID is not science)
"WITHOUT knowing details that I could only know."? why did you say WITHOUT? If they didn't have details, then how could you have been so impressed? please explain.
you get faith confused with truth. you hope something is real, it gives you a warm fuzzy feeling which your ego then won't let go because it's a bit like a drug, a feeling of smug satisfaction that you must repeatedly harp on about to maintain your high. hitler understood religion's power over minds and knew to appeal to the heart rather than the intellect to control the masses. creationism beats a similar path to adolf by misinforming and repeating ad infinitum lies and anti-science....
....and yes i know hitler also misrepresented darwin's theories before you tell me he was an atheist, he wasn't! he understood, as do creationists, that to control minds and reap the benefits of mass adoration (and money) just tell people what they want to hear until they hang on your every word. then you can tell them what to think and do. that is why religion, politics and science should be separate ALWAYS!
Funny that both were raised in Christian families within societies ruled over by oppressive governments that were supported by the church, isn't it? One can only wonder why Christian-dominated societies have mass produced such men for centuries.
thanks mankindascendant, i didn't realize that kernel expected me to outline all suspected atheist dictators in my comment. notice he just threw back some more creationist propaganda rather than discuss the point i was making about religion being a device for mind control. do you think he's playing dumb...or actually dumb?
pol pot was not raised at all near any christianity last time i checked. Regarding Hitler and Stalin, they both rejected christianity, so blame it on the christians. How quaint.
History's already done this for me; no reason to jump through hoops just because YOU want to play the idiot.
Assuming you're playing, of course; personally, I find it hard that anyone as dumb as you has the brain power necessary to breathe, but stranger things have happened.
oh dear kernel, you only see what you want to i guess. pot went to a catholic primary school between the ages of 8 and 12. do your research somewhere other than a christian website. apart from that i didn't blame pot, stalin or hitler's christian background for their entire lust for world domination. i was just redressing the balance where apologists like yourself tend to define them as 'atheist' dictators. no blame on christianity but try to understand my point about religion as mind control.
pot and stalin simply started their own versions of religious style mind control by executing free thinkers and pushing their own dogma. they weren't evil murderers because they were atheists anymore than it was because they attended catholic and orthodox christian schools respectively. they will however, have learned more about mass media control from their religious institutions than they would from any atheist then or now!
darwin did not seek to run the world, just enlighten it.
"that to control minds and reap the benefits of mass adoration (and money) just tell people what they want to hear until they hang on your every word. then you can tell them what to think and do"
Kernel, all I'm asking is for you to reason. If the argument for a creator is the complexity of a cell, then one must assume that the creator itself must be even more complex. Obviouse question, who created this creator? The logic for the creator doesn't work.
More complex in maybe his ways of doing thing. But if you lived in another dimension we would know if you even had cells at all. I would also reverse the question too, who created energy or matter?
I asked the some other guy about the evidence for evolution in the bone records. He gave me no answer, because there aren't any records. And I know he will come back and say there are, but won't give examples. All you have left is a theory that life mutated to where we are today. And I believe God just created it.
There are thousands and thousands of fossil records. How on earth do you think we know of mastodons, dinosaurs, archaeopteryxes, etc.?
We have Ardipithecus, Australopithecus, Homos such as H. habilis and H. erectus...
We have enough fossils from enough different areas to understand that humans have evolved over seven million years. What's more is that we stood up first, began making tools, all while our brains increased in size. We see these steps in the fossil records.
good name, you're a nut! you struggle with the concept of simple cell structures evolving in to complex ones, yet find it easy to grasp the notion of an invisible (but man shaped) male, super creator who planned the position of every atom in the universe and has time to answer prayers (in mysterious ways). get a grip, read a proper book, start again, become part of the real human race not the make believe christian version!
It is easy to grasp, because a God that is all powerful would have not problems creating anything and everything. Besides time is not a constant, even in our dimension. Yes you can't prove there are more dimensions (and possible beings in them) that we see right now, but how arrogant to think you know there aren't either.
the god you speak of is pointless! did all his great deeds and rule making in the past and chose an iron age tribe to spread his word gradually to the rest of the world and millenia later most people on the planet can't agree which version of him they should follow. anyway,if god did always exist how would he gain his knowledge and skills, and would he ponder his own origins? i do and they seem to start with mans early fumblings with philosophy mixed with superstition.
If you live in a dimension outside of time, there is no beginning or end. So there is nothing to ponder. I don't know if God could "learn skills" because He would already have had the answers before forever.
Intelligence is not knowledge of facts. Unfortunately, people equate Ben Stein knowledge of fact with intelligence. I can stuff zillion facts into a computer chip but it doesn't make it intelligent.
So your argument is that, because we can't explain the complexity of self replicating molecule, we should turn to something even more improbable, that being a "Creator"? Get a brain you moron!
what is it so improbable about there being a creator? no, it's more like if you can't prove evolution it is the only option. We can create cars and God could create life. Besides that you don't take into account the possibility of there being more dimensions than we presently see. Like being outside of time. Get it.
Because no evidence points to a supernatural force? Because evolution explains its subject of biology well? Because our creating cars and complex life arising from simple life has been repeated in simulations, in labs, etc.?
We can only understand science as far as we understand the world. Supernatural forces have no evidence in our understanding of the natural order of things, therefore they do not belong in science.
no, the atheists, a thousand years back started science. where would human progress be without you guys. you claim that judeo-christian ideology can be disproven. then prove it.
You lack the understanding of how science works; I would suggest you stop trying to attack that which you haven't studied at all. Reading attack phrases and talking points from an ID website is not studying something.
Science is not about disproving anything. Science sets out to understand the natural world. ID proponents want science to disprove their beliefs, and take the inability to do so as proof they're right.
This, again, is a lack of understanding of science and total dishonesty.
Stein is a wiener. A silly wiener. Comedy always has been his strong point. And "Expelled" is his funniest movie yet. All 12 people in the theater were laughing their ass off.
i was laughing too. laughing at the contractions and double-talk from the "scientific community". it was nice and refreshing to to an expose on the elites from the left. way to go ben stein!
Only religiotards would be gullible enough to fall for Stein's flimflam.

ndrthrdr1 2 weeks ago
@ndrthrdr1 State facts. Would you quantify the dimness? Purely logic rules!
Premises:
God is omniscient.
God is omnipotent.
God is omnipresent.
Conclusion:
You have to a God yourself to know that there is no evidence of God anywhere in the universe, past, present and future.
Study and live in the logic. Then you can spot anyone's, even atheists' crap.

I don't see it as an "either or" but rather a limitless choice of possibilities that may as of yet be undiscovered. It really be nice if the politics could be taken out of science.

The simple truth:
The bible is a collection pre-medieval goat-herder folklore and barbaric morality, just like Islam's Qu'ran.
Ever since Darwin and now with the internet, the world is slowly outgrowing the infantile religious phase of its social evolution. The future will have little place for unsubstantiated mysticism and arrogant presumptions of insight into the mind of an undetectable magic overlord.
Those who cling to religious dogma are self-righteous egoists with little integrity
themsfightinwoids 2 years ago
I'm sure Ben was quite a competent lawyer, and perhaps to a slightly lesser extent economist. However, his film and interviews has shown us that he is completely out of his depth when it comes to tackling evolutionary theory. He doesn't even understand the basics of the theory he so pathetically tries to slam, and is just an ignorant twat when it comes to evolution by natural selection and the scientific process.
jamesmagmar126 2 years ago
...which is why he asked Richard Dawkins, who understands more about it than you do, about it. Apparently Dawkins' testimony wasn't good enough for you. ...why are you an evolutionist if that's the case?
dhumantorch 2 years ago
Well Ben didn't ask Dawkins to explain even the basics of evolutionary theory to him. What's the point of understanding rhetoric and debate if you don't even understand the basics. Ben only asked Dawkins about the existence of God. Look at the clips of Ben promoting this garbage film. He refers to evolution as "random selection", criticises it because it doesn't explain the origin of life (like most scientific theories), and believes that science leads to death, and belief in god doesn't!
jamesmagmar126 2 years ago
Well that's the thing--evolutionary scientists are hypocritical for balking at the theory of intelligent design for not submitting a precise how, because evolutionism does not have a precise how either. That's the battering ram of the evolutionist's argument, is that Creationism does not have all the answers and science does. Science does not, so their argument becomes nothing.
dhumantorch 2 years ago
Creationism, on the other hand, never argued that faith needs all the answers. So between two sides, neither of which can explain it, only the one who never claimed they could (Creationism) is left consistent with their own arguments.
dhumantorch 2 years ago
No no no, scientists do not balk at it, they are frustrated with it. Frustrated that this nonsense dares to call itself a scientific theory, frustrated that it is convincing people that there is a serious scientific controversy, frustrated that it is suggesting that the scientific method is flawed and needs a special legislative boost, frustrated that it creates a false dichotomy between religion and science, thus convincing students that science might conflict with their religious beliefs,
jamesmagmar126 2 years ago
but mostly frustrated at its complete disregard and disrespect for the scientific method. The nonsense that calls itself ID has had decades to present any scientific evidence to the scientific community, and it hasn't done so. It doesn't go to conferences to present its research, it doesn't try to win a scientific consensus because it knows that it can't.
jamesmagmar126 2 years ago
Instead it is using political support from scientific illiterates to appeal to school boards across America to try and have their junk injected straight into the classroom, without it being recognised as a scientific theory before hand. The proponents of the ID theory show complete contempt for the scientific process and are willing to jeopardise America's position as a leading, scientific country just so that they can promote a hidden religious agenda via a pseudo-scientific guise,
jamesmagmar126 2 years ago
supported by people who do not have backgrounds in evolutionary theory, thus failing to even understand the errors in their own objections. It's disgraceful and they should be ashamed of themselves to continue to do what they do. The effect is already noticable as there are undergraduate science students who do regard ID as a scientific theory. That is frightening! Furthermore, scientists NEVER argue that a theory needs all the answers, or the minor details.
jamesmagmar126 2 years ago
There are still gaps and areas of disagreement in evolution, but it demonstrates complete warped logic to suggest that because science hasn't yet figured out certain areas then we should consider ID. My advice to the ID proponents would be to look at what usually happens when there is a gap in a theory. The answer is, scientists work at it and they find the answer!
jamesmagmar126 2 years ago
What scientist really want to look at a problem and say "this is too difficult for us to figure out, therefore an intelligent agent must have done it"? This is not how science is done.
jamesmagmar126 2 years ago
especulation, thats pretty much what science is these days.
RazofAC5 2 years ago
The theory of evolution was postulated due to effects which became evident over time.
If you truly disagree with the scientific postulate (which has been thoroughly tested using numerous techniques), why don't you submit your own scientific paper? No doubt you will only submit a single sentence "God made us."
Additionally, if creationism were true, why is it not evident scientifically?

Anyone who calls Ben Stein an idiot instantaneously loses all credibility, because the board of admissions at Yale Law School would like a word with you... to explain what a genius Mr. Stein is before promptly rejecting your application.
dhumantorch 2 years ago
Stein himself refers to all universities in America as "Temples of ignorance" and he studied LAW, not physics or biology which might have given him some understanding of the subject he had decided to make a movie about.
whyaretherenoneleft 2 years ago
First, he has a considerable understanding of rhetoric and debate, which is all one needs to understand what goes on in conversation. For science, he interviewed the best from both sides. The result is such that...well, the evolutionists aren't satisfied with what their best had to say. Think about it.
dhumantorch 2 years ago
If you listen to any of his interviews on the topic, it's quite clear that he hasn't anything close to an understanding of evolution. He makes stupid statements about "lightening hitting a puddle of mud" and out comes life....absurd caricature of a theory that's much much more sophisticated and supported than that level of mentality. I used to think he was possibly bright when he had his quiz show, but this kind of ID nonsense killed that impression.

A true scientist will question how a thing comes to be physically, while source is not found. For instance, if a song is presented to a musician they can talk about the song with all the knowledge they have, but this does not talk about the source. Dawkins admits he doesn't know the source.

Will someone please tell me what the "other side" is? What is the "theory of Intelligent design"? As far as I know it consists of one sentence: 'God did it.' How is that a theory? What predictions does it make? What does it explain? Doesn't it raise all sorts of unanswered questions like: 'what is God?' Until there is a well worked out alternative to the general principles of evolution, what self-respecting scientist would just throw evolution out the window?
bmbevers 3 years ago 6
the only problem i have is that schools saying that evolution is true say that God is false because you can't put Him in a test tube. It is not just a supposed science class, but a philosophy class as well. If you tell people we are evolved because you can't prove there is a God then they will act their lives out accordingly. Please don't tell me students don't think about these things.

I think Daniel Dennett said it best when he said that using "Faith" in an argument is like using "My friend Jane". To any argument one can claim that it must be true because my friend Jane told me. Well, who is your friend Jane? Oh, she lived up the street and she knows "EVERYTHING".
This isn't an argument anymore.
robertoppenheimer 3 years ago
you need alot of faith to believe that billions of years ago we evolved to what we are today. Oh that's right, you have a few skulls that look like apes or humans. I guess the evolution argument is over. You win.
KernelSandersCheckin 3 years ago
We have quite a few skulls. We have a Sahelanthropus skull, many Ardipithecus skulls, many Australopithecus skulls, several Panathropus skulls, and many, many Homo skulls. The start of modern human evolution from a clade of mammals began roughly ten million years ago.
We have every major step from the start of bipedalism to man as he is today, including, with the Paranthropus lineage, human-like apes that went extinct.
We evolved. The fossil evidence is conclusive. Stop being dishonest with it
csbair 3 years ago 2
Pananthropus -> Paranthropus. Sorry, was typing too fast for my not-quite-awake brain.
csbair 3 years ago
But using the geological formation. This disproves evolution. Because some so called million of years extinct fossilized animals were found in very low layers of the formation. Not only that if it takes million of years to formed a human being. Then why it the evolutionary process of human being stopped in 10,000 years. This was according to the Evolutionists and many supporters. In accordance to the field of biology. The process of evolutinarytheory is advancing and highly in degree of interm..
gearzone2611 3 years ago
Wow, there's just lots of wrong in this.
No one who studies evolution ever said evolution stopped.
csbair 3 years ago 2
Why do you need a creator of any kind? Could it not have always been there? Infinity is not that difficult to imagine.
I am willing to accept the idea of creator as some sort of entity outside of our universe or dimension. I do, however, have a problems with Christian's idea of creator which is a beared man like being looking down at us from the sky.
robertoppenheimer 3 years ago
that bearded man looking down on us would be santa clause in his sled. just kidding.
belieing a in judeo-christian God means he also is not just looking, but in involved in peoples' everyday lives. I could not recount how many times people have spoken to me at church about my life without knowing details that i could only know. Not to mention many answered prayers. But it is a matter of faith in God.
KernelSandersCheckin 3 years ago

kernel,
you get faith confused with truth. you hope something is real, it gives you a warm fuzzy feeling which your ego then won't let go because it's a bit like a drug, a feeling of smug satisfaction that you must repeatedly harp on about to maintain your high. hitler understood religion's power over minds and knew to appeal to the heart rather than the intellect to control the masses. creationism beats a similar path to adolf by misinforming and repeating ad infinitum lies and anti-science....
daltriani 3 years ago
....and yes i know hitler also misrepresented darwin's theories before you tell me he was an atheist, he wasn't! he understood, as do creationists, that to control minds and reap the benefits of mass adoration (and money) just tell people what they want to hear until they hang on your every word. then you can tell them what to think and do. that is why religion, politics and science should be separate ALWAYS!
daltriani 3 years ago

MankindAscendant 3 years ago
oh dear kernel, you only see what you want to i guess. pot went to a catholic primary school between the ages of 8 and 12. do your research somewhere other than a christian website. apart from that i didn't blame pot, stalin or hitler's christian background for their entire lust for world domination. i was just redressing the balance where apologists like yourself tend to define them as 'atheist' dictators. no blame on christianity but try to understand my point about religion as mind control.
daltriani 3 years ago
When you said, "it is a matter of faith", you lost the argument.
plimbuff 3 years ago
kernel,
pot and stalin simply started their own versions of religious style mind control by executing free thinkers and pushing their own dogma. they weren't evil murderers because they were atheists anymore than it was because they attended catholic and orthodox christian schools respectively. they will however, have learned more about mass media control from their religious institutions than they would from any atheist then or now!
darwin did not seek to run the world, just enlighten it.

Kernel, all I'm asking is for you to reason. If the argument for a creator is the complexity of a cell, then one must assume that the creator itself must be even more complex. Obviouse question, who created this creator? The logic for the creator doesn't work.
robertoppenheimer 3 years ago
More complex in maybe his ways of doing thing. But if you lived in another dimension we would know if you even had cells at all. I would also reverse the question too, who created energy or matter?

I asked the some other guy about the evidence for evolution in the bone records. He gave me no answer, because there aren't any records. And I know he will come back and say there are, but won't give examples. All you have left is a theory that life mutated to where we are today. And I believe God just created it.
KernelSandersCheckin 3 years ago
There are thousands and thousands of fossil records. How on earth do you think we know of mastodons, dinosaurs, archaeopteryxes, etc.?
We have Ardipithecus, Australopithecus, Homos such as H. habilis and H. erectus...
We have enough fossils from enough different areas to understand that humans have evolved over seven million years. What's more is that we stood up first, began making tools, all while our brains increased in size. We see these steps in the fossil records.
Why ignore them?

kernel,
good name, you're a nut! you struggle with the concept of simple cell structures evolving in to complex ones, yet find it easy to grasp the notion of an invisible (but man shaped) male, super creator who planned the position of every atom in the universe and has time to answer prayers (in mysterious ways). get a grip, read a proper book, start again, become part of the real human race not the make believe christian version!
daltriani 3 years ago
It is easy to grasp, because a God that is all powerful would have not problems creating anything and everything. Besides time is not a constant, even in our dimension. Yes you can't prove there are more dimensions (and possible beings in them) that we see right now, but how arrogant to think you know there aren't either.
KernelSandersCheckin 3 years ago
the god you speak of is pointless! did all his great deeds and rule making in the past and chose an iron age tribe to spread his word gradually to the rest of the world and millenia later most people on the planet can't agree which version of him they should follow. anyway,if god did always exist how would he gain his knowledge and skills, and would he ponder his own origins? i do and they seem to start with mans early fumblings with philosophy mixed with superstition.
daltriani 3 years ago
If you live in a dimension outside of time, there is no beginning or end. So there is nothing to ponder. I don't know if God could "learn skills" because He would already have had the answers before forever.

Intelligence is not knowledge of facts. Unfortunately, people equate Ben Stein knowledge of fact with intelligence. I can stuff zillion facts into a computer chip but it doesn't make it intelligent.
So your argument is that, because we can't explain the complexity of self replicating molecule, we should turn to something even more improbable, that being a "Creator"? Get a brain you moron!
robertoppenheimer 3 years ago
what is it so improbable about there being a creator? no, it's more like if you can't prove evolution it is the only option. We can create cars and God could create life. Besides that you don't take into account the possibility of there being more dimensions than we presently see. Like being outside of time. Get it.
KernelSandersCheckin 3 years ago
Because no evidence points to a supernatural force? Because evolution explains its subject of biology well? Because our creating cars and complex life arising from simple life has been repeated in simulations, in labs, etc.?
We can only understand science as far as we understand the world. Supernatural forces have no evidence in our understanding of the natural order of things, therefore they do not belong in science.
What's so hard to understand about that?
csbair 3 years ago
"Because our creating cars [has nothing to do with biology] and..."
Oops. There, clarification.
csbair 3 years ago
no, the atheists, a thousand years back started science. where would human progress be without you guys. you claim that judeo-christian ideology can be disproven. then prove it.
KernelSandersCheckin 3 years ago
You lack the understanding of how science works; I would suggest you stop trying to attack that which you haven't studied at all. Reading attack phrases and talking points from an ID website is not studying something.
Science is not about disproving anything. Science sets out to understand the natural world. ID proponents want science to disprove their beliefs, and take the inability to do so as proof they're right.
This, again, is a lack of understanding of science and total dishonesty.

The most scientific evolutionary answer to the questiom "where did life come from" is..... I DONT KNOW!!!
The most scientific evolutionary answer on the question 'How did Life Originate Is.... thru ALIENS AND CRYSTALS!!!
hahahah!!!
That movie is a bomb
i also feel like awarding Richard Dawkins the most theologically sound person of the decade

Ben Stein is B-B-B-B-Bad
DAN13LhD 3 years ago
Stein is a wiener. A silly wiener. Comedy always has been his strong point. And "Expelled" is his funniest movie yet. All 12 people in the theater were laughing their ass off.
plimbuff 3 years ago
i was laughing too. laughing at the contractions and double-talk from the "scientific community". it was nice and refreshing to to an expose on the elites from the left. way to go ben stein!
