and YES.. i agree that in the future conflict over resources may cause world wars.. but this would only be temporary... large numbers of people would survive and carry on advancing.. and yes i know 5 billion years is a verry long time.. but once as i said we do start spreading out over the galaxy.. even if earth dies off.. or other colonies do.. theres really nothing stopping us.. unless we do die out in the next few 100 - 1000 years

I've read that as the Sun expands into its Red Giant phase it will actually push the earth and the moon into a new orbit. The earth's atmosphere will be incinerated, so no life will be able to survive; But the planet itself will go on living. This is why there must have been great civilizations on other planets, but Time probably wiped them out.

If an Alien race comes to the earth 5 billion years from now, they will never know that we existed unless the do some major excavating.

I agree with you again, although there is public scientific debate about whether the earth will be consumed by the Sun or pushed out during the Red Giant flare-up. And yes, after the Sun goes through this phase and goes into the White Dwarf phase, a civilization could set up shop on the New Earth.
