  • This was an amazing video... I was planing on studying Japanese in University, and if do get in, I was planing on training Kendo as well... call me crazy but I have a feeling that it'll help me study Japanese culture. These two guys looked truly impressive. It was almost as if they were dancing... As I am quite inexperienced in this and was hard for me to follow the "match" I wasn't sure who was better... think at start it was the taller dude, but at the later game baldy got a bit better :D

  • @warlocksmight Your comment made me laught.. Glad to see that you like the video.. Neither one of us can look good by ourself.. its a exchange.. So if one looks good .. its with the help of the partner. I encourage you to train in kendo.. Have fun.

  • @warlocksmight It's actually a kata, my friend. It's forms. Not a real fight. So basically it's a group of techniques. But anyway, have fun with kendo! :D

  • mastery ore modesty are both actions of the ego.

kata will reveal that, because there are also esoteric levels within kata.

you as a person is a illusion. try to obtain shin ki ryoku (mind and spirit come together in the void). then it wil be clear.

traing and some kuji-no-in will get you there. greetings

  • 20 years ago i started in the sugino style, given by hatakeyama. when sugino died. hatekeyama changed a lot. and not only. and still is doing so. it is his interpertation of his katori.

i also studied some otake style. but pratice only the iai-jutsu now. of otake and sugino.

but that is not important. what is important, is that you overcome youre teachers, and develop youre way.

after 20 years practice, youre teacher must force you to do so.

to copy is good. but to keep on copying, is bad.

  • I think in a different way for traditianal martal arts (Kata). But agree for some martial arts (sports, competition) that a student should develop his own way. If every 20 years old praticener develop there own style, i think you lose the essence of the martial art. In traditianal arts (Kata) i think that only a master that has been valided by his soke should with his experience change the style because he has the knoledge (Like a menkyo kaiden).

  • you are right. not everybody can do so. but some people have the talent to do so. some reach that level in 20 years, others in 40. some never will. but everybody must practice to try to become a master. a menkyo kaiden degree, means nothing when a person does not try become a master. look inside youreself. kata is a way to freedom. when you are there, the subtilities from the art will change. nothing can stop that. but you are right. first the kata's must sink in.

  • Hatakeyama sensei his of level Menkyo Kaiden and brought some "changes or clarification" that were validaded by Sugino Father that is.

Keiko.. Keiko...Keiko with precision his one of Hatakeyama phrases that he teaches. And at a certain level he teaches OYO WAZA or if you whant randori or free style bat that has nothing to do with the Kata.

But again you are whright for combat sports. Learn the basics and do what works best for you.

  • I dont want to sound to corny

But Its a little bit like playing classical music

If you play a classical song respect the fondamentals and the basics and what the founder tought. If you do something else its not classiacl music but a personnel thing. Does not mean its not good but its not classic.

  • if you listen close to clasical music. every piano grandmaster, does it different. but in the boundreys of the musicpiece/kata. and then it will become youre ticket to freedom. there is no form. when you meet the boeddha, kill him.

  • be open minded. ask hatekayama if kata leads to freedom.

it must be because the katori is a jutsu form. designed for the battlefield. when stuck in kata, you will die soon.

but kata is not to be neglected. it is a dictionairy and a guide on manyl evels, don't practice kata. be kata.

i know this sound strange in the common ear. that is based on reason.

go beyond words.. and we will meet.

  • Hatakeyama teaches to train the body and mind to execute with precision. Its called conditionning, repeating an exercise so your body discipline itself so it besome a reflex. So at the beginning you cant let your body decide you have to teach him and correct it. Of course every person his different (size, weight, hability, coordination, age) some ajustement are necessary and it will show during execution.

  • For the mind part. You have to leave your head outside the tatami. If not you are closed minded to changing and learning.

If a person his looking for the effectiveness on the battle field he has to learn Kendo. The battle field today is the srteet and we do not walk around with a sword. So learning TSKSR has to take a different meaning and the mind will learn how to be confident, respectfull, focus and other principel in life.

Ichi gan.. Ni soku.. san tan... shi riki

  • I am not a master and have no pretention of being one. Even if i have 30 years experience in Budo. I think that im a good teacher that helps people to better themself. The Masters that i met in my life never had the pretention of being one. The recognition they had came from outside and not within. And the people that had the pretention of being Masters shined for a couple of years and disepeared.

One thing before i leave thank for the exchange of opinion. Keiko.. keiko with precision

  • Hatakeyama his a great master but not only for his technique or understanding of TSKSR but mostly for the respect he diplays for people. For me he is one of the last of his generation. A true Budo master that helps people in becomming better people in the society. That is the nature of Budo and not War. Its not about what you want but how you can contribute to society.

Even now when he is going to rought time the only thing he wishes is to give.

I wish him good health and get well..........

  • WOW! Très bon vidéo continuer votre beau travail.

  • sugino style

  • no ,it is hatakeyama style. he made some strange looking changes

  • Wright about Hatakeyama style, i understand that he is reviving and giving its original sens in the movements (cuts, tai sabaki). And you are wright about Sugino style( the Father's style) since Hatakeyama was his number one studend and the only one to receive his full knoledge.

  • I knew i saw your name somewhere. Ive just posted a comment on your demontration of TSKSR. Yes its Hatakeyama style. The changes are what Hatakeyame refers to is; a return to the essence of the Kata. By yhe way where did you learn??

  • part 2, so i returned to the old sugino style as a basis. we know anything there is to know. but some things are lost in one style and kept in the other. so i combined the 2 styles in order to complete the whole.

i have transended. and what you see is my way. why do people want to keep on being a student. a good master produces masters. more information on ogamidojo. nl

  • Très beau vidéo et bon choix de musique. j'aime beaucoup les tambours japonais

  • La vitesse, l'entrain et l'énergie de cette vidéo et des membres qui s'exécutent avec ferveur me donnent envie de pratiquer. Go ahead guys!

  • Tres bon! La vitesse est superbe!

  • Bravo et félicitation. A quand le prochain vidéo? :)

  • Encore une fois surperbe Kata

  • Super

    Continuer votre beau travail.

    Diane T

Belle performance! Le petit en a dedans, très énergique!
