It's interesting- I'd only ever seen the film Downfall, but seeing this it's interesting how similar the two films are (in terms of camera angles, etc). Was that done on purpose to pay homage?
Guinness does surprisingly decent work as Hitler, though his performance pales in comparison to Bruno Ganz. That, and Hitler speaking English simply doesn't work - while I think a lot of non-English speaking historical figures can get away with speaking English in a movie, Hitler simply has to speak German in order to be convincing.
Damn Alec Guinness could ACT! It's too bad I only knew as Obi Wan Kenobi when I was a little kid? I once saw an interview with him on Star Wars and he seemed very disheartened that most young people only recognized him for this role? He was good spitirited and appreciative about it-but you could tell he had a heavy heart about it too-because of his vast body of work? I'm just now starting to discover it-and I'm nearly 40? He's got Hitlers stances and mannerisms down to a tee on this one!
I really enjoyed Alec Guiness's version of Hitler. Hitler was an incredible narcissist with delusions of grandeur, and I thought Alec projected that character really well. I particularly enjoyed the scene where Ava Braun speaks to Hitler just before they kill themselves. I seriously doubt that anyone knows exactly what they said to each other. Nevertheless, I thought it was a powerful scene when she discovers how selfish Hitler is.
these Generals all seemed to hate Hitler, so why did they not just do him in, and take their time with it, make him suffer like did all these innocent Men, Women and children he tortured and slowly put to death?
@FormOfSlavery That is true...and, most people don't realize, that the worst mobsters, were Jewish, such as Meyer Lansky and Bugsy Siegel...the Holocaust industry, has all but drowned out any other voices of persecution, as if the Jews were the only persecuted peoples in history...in virtually every single European country, as well as America, there is a Holocaust museum...Why? Why are they so important?
@FormOfSlavery I couldn't agree more...the Western World, has become one vast Jewish laboratory, with millions of brainless peoples, as willing guinea pigs...the Zionists mock every single aspect of European and Euro-American history, that's why they're pushing the disastrous poison, better known as Multiculturalism...the Zionists aren't just demonizing HItler, they're demonizing every single world historical figure in European history, from the Caesars to Hitler...
Alec Guiness is one of the greatest actors of all time. Bridge on the River Kwai and this Hitler The Last 10 Days are his very best, also his role in Lawrence of Arabia. The scary thing about watching this movie all the way through is you fell contaminated by being around Hitler and the scene at the end when they can finally smoke a cigarette kind of releases you from that feeling, knowing that Hitler is finally dead. Creepy. I think this movie is a gem and underappreciated.
Ok who cares really Alec guiness is also great here and i had no idea he once played Hitler its not an easy role to play and he did well with the movements and speeches etc great actor.
Please don't blame Alec Guinness for playing OB1. Lucas' script and directing were incredibly cheesy; that wasn't Guinness' fault. A lesser actor, and the whole of SW would have been seen for the fluff it was. This clip gives us a glimpse of his real brilliance in front of the camera. Brando and the rest pale in comparison with Guinness!
he's actually doing a good impersonation, buy I'll accept how faulty I am to hear his voice and unavoidable picture obi wan talking amongst that multitude...it just feels odd
This is actually a decent movie, and of course Guinness is excellent, but it lacks the realistic writing and direction of "Der Untergang". The scene kind of drags rather than becoming more and more awkward and tense.
@retread01 I agree he has a distinctive delivery, but he varies it well, if subtlely, in different roles. In The Man in the White Suit, he's awkward and self-doubting but ambitious and persistent. In Kind Hearts he's pretty much everything. In Hitler he's narcissistic-antisocial and delusional but strangely charming ...as such people often are. Father Brown was also pretty distinctive. The list could go on, of course. Strong mannerisms, yes. You're right. But I don't see it as a problem.
I like this hitler better than in Downfall. I really can sense the 'madness' underneath. While I have to say that Downfall is remarkable in it's presentation, and Bruno Ganz amazing for his part, Alex Guinness just takes it away with that voice of his.
Was a good movie when I saw it years ago but unfortunatly it didn't age very well ... wonder what Sir Alec would have said about Bruno Ganz playing the Fuehrer in "Der Untergang" .... I think he would have pulled his hat.
@guitardude9208 True, and he said in interviews how he disliked playing Obi Wan. I remember Guinness better as the colonel in The Bridge on the River Kwai.

Here is a list of movies about Hitler's life (in chronological order):
Max
Hitler: The Rise of Evil
Moloch
The Bunker
The Death of Adolf Hitler
Hitler: The Last Ten Days
Downfall
I need to know which of these is historically accurate. I'm aware that Hitler: The Rise of Evil has some MINOR inaccuracies.
