The advantage of a simple language structure might be that, being unencumbered by complex language structures allows mind to spend more effort on what is to be said not how it is to be said.
@bmxmike215 No kidding. Something similar to this happened to me. My wife grew very spiteful of my growing agnosticism until she took our four kids and left me. The oldest is eight. It takes incredible fortitude of heart and sacrifice to really admit the truth about reality.
Such is the power of a self-righteous and fearfully emotional belief system as Christianity. How sad that a man's wife and children would disown him just because he has moved beyond the mentally exclusive ideas of the Christian belief system.
@jefferdaughter I'm baffled over the fact that you said: books of science are soaped up words of mouth. I suggest looking up the definition to "word of mouth" first before you make such statement.

Is it that they just don't have a creation or God story, or they just don't like thinking beyond themselves nor bother to ponder of things across time. It is an interesting situation not just for religion but, things learned from ancient times, remembrance of stories about their great great grandfathers, or past and future floodings,... It reminds me of the irresponsible attitude some have in our society, like drunks or a teen that hates to study or dna limited brain? Or Adam in Eden pre Snake?
@warnization you mean ideas of minimal value. Every story/idea/moral that religions offer are mostly common sense, but most of them are just feeble attempts in satisfying our constant quest for knowledge. And in the end they just raze more questions then they give answers. Plus we have books of science and the internet now to share actual valuable information and in a proper manner, not just by word of mouth.
@DurexDurpaneu2 - Interesting to read here what people think, and enjoyed your post.
BTW 'books of science and the Internet' are just souped up ways of sharing word of mouth information. Much of the' Truth' as revealed by Science has already changed in my lifetime. Recent New Yorker article titled "The Truth Wears Off" by Jonathan Lehrer may be of interest to some thinkers here.
@DurexDurpaneu2 In extreme cases, yes. But you're mostly thinking about the set of judeo-christian-islamic religion (eg, Jainists actually have tenets that say they should be happy to enjoy worshipping with believers of different faiths), and even then believers of those religions can rationalize ways to not inflict their beliefs on others.
Ultimately, any religion is just a really good way of passing down ideas of...variable value. there are some ideas there that are worth spreading, though.
Wait, wait... your Christian wife divorced you? Even Paul says if you're married to a non-believer, don't seek divorce, but if he wants to divorce you, then let it happen.
Actually, the book of Hosea upholds the moral example of a man who took back his adulteress whore of a wife, demonstrating the amazing grace of God.
Her reaction of forcing Dan on the phone to tell his kids seems... she seems to have more a personality problem than one caused by the Bible.
I wonder if the ex-missionary's ex-wife has some evil spirit in her, since she had no mercy on her poor now-atheist husband. Christinsanity is nothing but evil. Even satanists are better people as a whole.
Why get divorced just because one partner no longer believes and why wouldnt the children speak to him. Sounds more like Jehovahs Witness shunning rather than Biblical Christianity. Plenty of Christians in churches with unbelieving partners
A lot of it depends on what denomination of Christian a person is and how conservative or liberal they are in their beliefs. Many conservative Christians believe that one must be "equally yolked" in their marriages and even in other relationships in their lives.
There are some people who refuse to even date people of other religions, because the similarity in beliefs ensures a common understanding of moral behavior.

Losing your family over difference in beliefs. Sad but true. That's why I'm against religion.
All religious people claim they are right and the others are wrong. That they have the truth and everyone else believes in a lie.
Such a bigoted and self centered mind set.
It's sickening.

What a tragedy to loose one's family over a conviction.
