@WhatsAYak still though, $250 a tie doesn't seem like a whole lot, I'm not saying they should have given her $10K or something but it should have been a little more than $250.
That was a big match there. Everytime we think we had seen it all, there is always that element of "Think Again!" It took the usual miracle to happen for Erik to have what he needed to take a shot at winning the game. The tie record was broken by the way; I guess the rigged record from the 50's of 8 ties still holds. Mary will be leaving with a record consolation prize on Tic Tac Dough being a formidable opponent. While there may not have been a record pot; we still had a great match.
In Jacksonville Tic Tac Dough being aired on WTLV Channel 12 (now NBC) during it`s first years as a ABC Station being on 9:30am in the morning after Family Feud at 9 (instead of the 12 Noon slot)
Given the question about Reagan's book, I'm guessing this episode taped sometime before summer-1980, when he first campaigned for president?
I know the eps. "bicycled", airing at different times in different parts of the country, so I'd make a guess that this taped sometime in spring 1980, then aired throughout the 1980-81 season...
Post-McKee and Post-Salisbury, the pot went to $46,800 but the red "special catergories" were still worth $200, and the "Grand Question" was gone as well and it took more than 10 episodes and more than 16 ties to get this pot so high. If you've seen that on USA Network in reruns form or if you've seen this on GSN in '99 or 2000, this was why the match went through 10+ ties.

This was a good match, but it does not rival the Thom Pete match.

that $1750 for all those tie games is a very nice consolation prize. I'm glad they offer something for ties.

Yeah, def good that losing contestants got $250 for each tie game...they deserve something for lasting THAT long!

@gameshowfreak2007 - Well, I think $1,750 ($250 x 7 tie games) was def a nice consolation prize for her efforts.
WhatsAYak 1 year ago
@gameshowfreak2007 Each game is worth $600-$1900 (obviously more with the secret category), so $250 seems pretty fair.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
There was sometime on a 1981-1982 season Tic Tac Dough where the TTD pot was over $100,000.

Actually, I believe that series of games lasted 6 episodes, but then again, I looked it up on Wikipedia.

So this is how Erik did after defeating Thom.
Very interesting post; thanks!
Hondo20132 3 years ago
Apparently there was a pot of over $40K post-McKee.

$46,900, and the Secret Category wasn't used there for unexplained reasons, but they still reached the $46,000 mark the HARD way.

Unbelieveable!!! That doesn't beat Thom Mckee's Largest pot on TTD. I believe it was over $35,000.
mtprice1978 3 years ago
That pot was exactly $38,800.
