A world of advice about pixel art in minecraft i have learned making stuff myself. It's a lot easier to build your scaffolding in the front 1 space away and build from the bottom up. It really helps to keep things even and centered especially when working on something symmetrical. It also allows you to stand back and look with out going up and down. Think of working like a printer 1 line at a time.
You did a good job free styling though :D.
