Thanks for this great advise! I bought the spare part at one of the Samsung distributors in Guatemala for Q30 (about $3.75) and the problem just fixed itself instantly. Thanks again!!!
I have the CLP-300N printer with the same problem printer prints fine, paper comes 70% out ( in the out tray ) and I get paper jam error ( Paper Jam inside printer ), but there in no paper Jam.
Is in the 300N model the same procedure, and sensor?
The instructions here are great. There's just one modification, since the replacement part that Samsung provides now contains an external casing for the connector, it's too large to just slip back into the sensor slot easily. What I did was release the clips on the left side printer panel (top) and open up the casing a little bit, then pull up the whole plastic part that holds the sensor, so I had enough room to FIRST put in the sensor, THEN plug in the connector. That worked.
Question, for all... I have this issue but only when printing on thick paper such as cardstock. Regular paper prints fine. Does the problem described in this video happen 100% of the time or in cases like mine?
@lucgallant Happens ALL the time for me. Then you just open up the back and close it and then it'll finish printing. But then you gotta turn off the printer immediately or else it'll just keep printing more.
Worked great for me. And yes a liottle piece of plastic had to be removed from the case its self. So easy with a razor knife, smaller the better.Did this is 5 minutes and back up and running :-)
great video!!! but the new sensors have changed abit. DONT MODIFY THE CASE!! You dont have to just remove the side panel....snaps off... carefully unscrew the computer logic board....lift up a little on the roller the sensor fits in carefully work it in...You will see..it save a lot of time modifying the case. you will have to unplag the sensor again but once its seated, reconnect. That waseasier for me than just cuttin the case for space...Peace out..
I did see you perform taking out the paper jam. However, i don't know why one would have to perform replacing the photo interrupter(?) what is the purpose of this device? Does it prevent future paper jams? Or does it have another function?
24NOV2011 I also ordered Part #0604-001393 from samsungparts and the photo sensor (total cost $11.75 with S/H) and yes it was a little larger at the plug side than the OEM part. I shaved down the plastic on the printer side (used sharp knife), and I also had to removed the black plastic on connection side of part by simply snapping it back with my finger and thumb from the new part to make it fit. Screws were a little difficult to get back in (nd magnetic tool). It did work perfectly!
Thanks for this...so far, so good on my Samsung CLX-3170 Series multi-function. I also used the 425-2449-ND part number I bought from Digi-key for $3.54 Shipped. Please add this to your initial post as it fits perfectly, too.
Hi, i posted last week in regards to the printer. I got the samsung part and YES, the comments are correct about the photo finisher being a LARGER size. I had to CUT the 2 plastic prongs where the white thing connects to the finisher. If you cut those 2 plastic prongs on the finisher, then it will fit in. No filing needed on the printer. Also- i am a girl who has NO technical skills. I followed exactly and it WORKS. I saved $70 on labor and am so impressed with myself. THANK YOU for the video!!
Just installed the part and printer is working again. Thanks for the excellent video. Wasn't sure if it was the part but had to take a chance.Ended up costing me ~$15 with s/h. The part was abit larger and I had to cut off a plastic piece and slightly cut the inside of the printer to get the part back in. Pain in the a@# but hey, at least it was worth the effort. Let's see how long this last. If it jams again, i'll probably order 2 but this definitely a defective design. GREAT VIDEO.
Thank you very much for the video! $10 and about 15 minutes and my printer is working again! It was headed for the trash heap until I found your video.
eek, my samsung printer has joined the many with the 'printer jam' problems. it's very frustrating that companies are trying to charge me $65 to repair, $15 travel fee, in addition to parts and labor. I stumbled across ur video, ordered the samsung part for a total of $12 (part, shipping, tax). I am keeping my fingers crossed I can do this. Just for practice, i unassembled this today and the instructions are point on key. I will follow up next week once i try replacing. stupid printer...... >:(
This saved my printer. The part cost less than $5 and the replacement took about as long as the video. Only problem was trimming the replacement part. I had to break off one tab next to the connector and shave down the side of the connector with a Dremel tool. Once I got it shaped right it fit and worked. Thanks!
Great help! Note: part from Digi-Key (digikey.com) is $1.41 plus $1.52 shipping Total $2.93 Part #425-2449-ND and it is the original part not needing trim-to-fit.
Can somebody show how to resolve a paper pickup problem. the pickup roller was replaced wih a new one. Everything works fine except no paper is pulled in from the tray. the error shown is paper jam. There is no paper anywhere in the feed rollers.
Perfect! Thank you so much! Your videos are so helpful.
Had a spare CLP 315 sitting around, one that worked perfect except jammed on any cardstock like paper. I use it for parts because it is near to new. I switched out the part shown in the video and it now works perfect again! Have had this printer for over 3 years and not much has gone wrong until this.
Thanks for posting. Unfortunately, while the replacement of the sensor went smoothly, it did not fix the problem so I am back to square one. Oddly enough, if I open the front or back door of the printer when it "jams," it will then continue feeding the page through. However, the page comes out slightly curled AND I'd have to do that for every page of the print job - needless to say, not a practical solution.
we have one that has the Paper Jam 1, we found the paper exit black sensor, was not falling into the sensor cavity during the paper travel. The sensor, we are working on, as above to remove the the scanner portion. A strong light reveals the sensor is resting on the optical sensor.
aug 8, 2011, yes this DOES WORK! order the part from samsung, it cost me 11 dollars, and it fixed my color laser printer! you don't need to file anything down, just apply a little force, it goes in. thank you VERY MUCH for saving me 150 dollars.
your great video helped me to repair my CLP 315W. Thank You very much. Now for the german readers:
Das Ersatzteil kostet ca. 4EUR (plus Versand) und kann unter der genannten Teilenummer #0604-001393 bei elektronik werkstatt de (Versand 6,90 EUR) bestellt werden. Der Sensor ist ein wenig größer und muss an der Steckerseite bearbeitet werden.
@ystewart2 £89? Jesus, that's why i don't have a bmw m3 but a fiat punto ;)
Maybe a little trimming could be necessary into the sendor housing, just try to fit in.In my case i had the original part as in the image,so i had to cut some plastic from the connector to let it fit in. Feel free to contact me, bye!
It worked for a CLX3175fn too, spare part 0604-001393 don't fit as well, but a little trimming with a cutter makes it fit perfectly. You have to remove about 2mm just near the pinout connector TNX!
@valociraptor . how did you do trim or cut ? I bought spare part (total cost me £20. sensor is £9.99,then add vat and postage). The black top is too big compare with withe orginal one. I phoned samsung repair centre, and they told me that only well trained samsung engineer can do it. They gave me the price is £89 for doing this small job.
This is awesome! Took exactly 15 minutes, $4.95 in parts from Samsung plus $5.50 in S&H (:)), the video was clear, simple to understand, and best of all - the printer works!! So where do we donate?
Dude. This is amazing!!! I chanced it and searched YouTube for a DIY and here you are. EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. I just ordered the part from SamsungParts. I'll keep you posted on if it works. Excellent DIY vid. Hopefully I can salvage this troublesome printer since *just* bought all new cartridges....
Hello guys! Could you help me with my printer? I have this printer and the down led is red switched on.... Do you know if i could fix it when i change the sensor?
!!! WORD OF WARNING !!! I just ordered Part #0604-001393 from samsungparts and the photo sensor that I received was significantly larger at the plug side than the OEM part. I needed to do a lot of careful filing on the printer side, and even had to remove some plastic from the new part to finally make it fit. It fixed the printer though, so all is good.
Thanks for the video though, probably would have thrown this printer out otherwise.
@vandenbergsc I had the same problem and solved it by firstly snapping off the plastic tab off the new part using long nosed pliers. By removing the side panel (sensor side) of the printer and with a bit of gentle pulling the side can be flexed out and the end of assembly holding the sensor moved up for easy removal and replacement of the sensor. Be very gentle if you try this but it does mean you don't have to modify the printer itself.
HI, I have the same problem for the new sensor I ordered. it is larger than the orginal one. I can not fix it into orgianl place. Which part of new sensor did you remove?
@vandenbergsc The better solution is to open up the left side printer casing a little bit (it's not hard once you follow the instructions here to open everything) and then install the sensor first, then attach the connecting plug. You can be reasonably sure Samsung doesn't require its technicians to file off stock parts to replace them. :)
Great video- worked perfectly - and like most, the new sensor was slightly larger so I had to carve out a little plastic from the case to make room. A magnetic screwdriver would be a good tool here!
One of the best DIY videos I've seen. Thanks! Removing the sensor was the hardest part for me, but I'm kind of ham-handed. The new sensor is different, but fit in without too much difficulty.
IM AM SO GLAD u posted this. thanx a billion!!!- u just dont know! i have to print books& other work - i depend on my printer!!you helped, & the ebay buy was easiest, everyone else costed more..so :)..it worked, i wasnt sure if I could do it, & yea, the hardest part was removing the old part, i worried I'd break some things..but no, it came out - wa la! harray.. alright had to come back& say that!- GOD BLESS
Thanks so much for posting this; putting in the new sensor was a pain as was taking out the old one, but the fix appears to have worked (fingers crossed)
thanks so much. I was seriously ready to pull an Office Space on this printer until I stumbled upon this vid. Like others, the replacement part confused me because it is definitely different than the original and was a bit of a pain to get in place but it works like a champ now.
I was about to give up on the trying to get the new sensor back in, when I accidentally found that that whole section slides up and out quite a bit, and makes putting it back in very easy.
$1.85 for the part, but FOURTY SIX DOLLARS to post it to me ! !
Their excuse was that I live in Australia - funny that I just had 3kgs sent from the US for $9.00 so that excuse fails. But it was still worth it, not having to send it in for a warranty repair and wait ages for it. You're a champion ! !
Really very very helpful video. Instructions are spot on. Only difficultyis that reported by others - in the UK the replacement sensor is a slightly different size. However, carefully cut the opening in the case and all is well. Working perfectly again!!!
Spare parts are available in Uk but only in minimum order of 6 - now have 5 spares!!
I had the same problem and instead of replacing the sensor I just wiped it with screen cleaner tissue, put it back in the machine and the printer now works again just as new! Try that before ordering a new one.
Especially if you live in the UK and the spare part seems unavailable!
Thanks for the video! It helped me a great deal. Anyone know if the replacement sensors are as failure prone as the originals?? I noticed that the one I received was all white, where as the one I took out had a black body with a white connector socket.
Sts121 - THANK YOU so much for taking the time and trouble to record this video! I called the local repair place recommended by Samsung, and they wanted $90 just to walk in the door. With your video, for $11 and a half-hour of DIY labor (I actually had more trouble taking the sensor out than putting the new one in, had to bend the tabs), the printer is fixed! I really appreciate it.
Thanks for this vid. I got my part this morning and it looks the same as yous in the bag. It seems to be wider and too long to fit in. Any ideas? My part is slightly smaller and has a white socket for the plug. Oh I ended up buying another CLP-301 to replace is but if this works Ill have a spare for home!! Fingers crossed.
Thank you for the fine info. I repair printers for a living and this video saved me much head scratching and time. I had a photo interupter from an old Canon copier and used it. Worked like a champ.
Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge with the rest of us. I feel so good that I made the repair in under 15 minutes, I did what another person suggested, I bought 3 parts and shipping for $11.75 - Parts come out of New Jersey. And yes the hardest part is putting in the new one but I was patient and didn't trim the plastic. For anyone thinking about this just do it! And finally a big "F YOU" to Samsung customer support for pretending this problem doesn't exist.
I love my printer and did not want to have to replace it!
Will agree with previous comment. The new part was slightly larger than the original. Use a knife & pliers to trim away some plastic and it will fit in easily.
Thank you so much for this video. I called repair places, who either charge an arm and a leg or don't repair Samsung any more, and paid to get info on the FixYa site (absolutely no help, even when I asked about the part mentioned in the video here). So I finally ordered the part, got it within a few days and followed the instructions and it works now! However, the piece is really hard to get back in place. Thanks to those who posted tips on how to do this. God Bless the creator of this video.
BINGO was his name, this worked perfectly. Hardest part was exactly what he said, putting the new one in. Seems like the new photosensor is designed slightly differently and is a little harder to slide in. I took a pair of dykes and cut into the plastic to get it in. No harm, no foul, worked like a charm.
Very Clear video demonstration with concise and accurate text instructions. I followed it exactly and now my printer is working again. I had no idea what was wrong or how to fix it until I looked at this video. I also enjoyed the wind chimes and bird song. Thank you very much.
Postage to UK $38.95!!! It arrived in only 6 days though, in a huge box. I took goosedude's advice and bought three since the minimum order is $6 and they are $1.85 each. an easy repair for the amateur.
Just fixed mine....To clarify mjd164x's tip on how to get the sensor back in easily....
The bracket the sensor fits into is basically connected to an entire plastic piece that is part of the paper guide......this piece is able to be lifted up if you pull right side of the printer slightly....allowing it to slide up
Once this entire piece is lifted you can easily remove/install the sensor into its bracket. Pull the right side of the printer to let you slide the plastic piece back down.
It should be noted that the part is only $ 1.85.....and Samsung requires a $ 6.00 Minimum order (They charge any amount lower than that as "Handling").
Buying 1 costs you $ 12.00 with USPS Priority Shipping....Buying 3 costs $ 11.75....Go figure.
So buy 3 of them.........you will probably need them anyway.
The trick to installing the sensor is to pull the side away from the printer about 1/8 inch (pull up on the plastic tab just enough to clear the little stud) then pull the sensor bracket up enough to clear the slot in the side of the printer. Do this GENTLY and don't force it!
The part was $1.85. I bought two of them to be ready for next time! (and with shipping...$11.75!)
Thank you, had a little trouble getting the new sensor in, but was successful. printer back to normal

Lift up the roller under the popped roller (because the housing is attached to this) then put the sensor in and put back the lower roller.

I needed to do a lot of careful filing on the printer side, and even had to remove some plastic from the new part to finally make it fit. It fixed the printer though, so all is good.
Thanks for the video though, probably would have thrown this printer out otherwise.
vandenbergsc 10 months ago
@vandenbergsc Thank you! the part I used required no modification at all... Glad it worked though, and thanks for the update!
sts121 10 months ago
@vandenbergsc I had the same problem and solved it by firstly snapping off the plastic tab off the new part using long nosed pliers. By removing the side panel (sensor side) of the printer and with a bit of gentle pulling the side can be flexed out and the end of assembly holding the sensor moved up for easy removal and replacement of the sensor. Be very gentle if you try this but it does mean you don't have to modify the printer itself.

HI, I have the same problem for the new sensor I ordered. it is larger than the orginal one. I can not fix it into orgianl place. Which part of new sensor did you remove?
ystewart2 8 months ago
@vandenbergsc The better solution is to open up the left side printer casing a little bit (it's not hard once you follow the instructions here to open everything) and then install the sensor first, then attach the connecting plug. You can be reasonably sure Samsung doesn't require its technicians to file off stock parts to replace them. :)

greatly appreciate this, finally fixed the annoying problem!

The new sensor is different, but fit in without too much difficulty.

thanks so much.

Thank you very much for this video. I just did it, and no more paper jamming!!

Big, big thank you!! :)
navura1951 1 year ago
@navura1951 Good to know - so far I haven't needed any spares. I'll be sure to let everyone know if my replacement goes out again
sts121 1 year ago
That whole section slides up and out the top, and access becomes MUCH easier. No need to cut, even with the different design.
Ezookiel 1 year ago
Great clear post. Thank you
A NEW PHOTOSENSOR MAY NOT BE NECESSARY.
I had the same problem and instead of replacing the sensor I just wiped it with screen cleaner tissue, put it back in the machine and the printer now works again just as new! Try that before ordering a new one.
Especially if you live in the UK and the spare part seems unavailable!
orlambert 1 year ago
Thanks for the video! It helped me a great deal. Anyone know if the replacement sensors are as failure prone as the originals?? I noticed that the one I received was all white, where as the one I took out had a black body with a white connector socket.
Thanks!

@mattkoser
I have the all black sensor purchased through bbolona2@gmail.com
I have been using mine for over 7 months with no issues, He charges about 12.00 shipped for a sensor.

The sensor is a bear but thanks goosedude. You saved the day !!!

Would you recommend buying this laser printer?
Adz1184 1 year ago
@Adz1184 Yeah- other than this one issue, it's a good, cheap color laser printer.
sts121 1 year ago
Where did you buy the part from? Best I can find is samsungparts com for $4.95 + $5.95 shipping.
MoxieBF 1 year ago
Thanks for this vid. I got my part this morning and it looks the same as yous in the bag. It seems to be wider and too long to fit in. Any ideas? My part is slightly smaller and has a white socket for the plug. Oh I ended up buying another CLP-301 to replace is but if this works Ill have a spare for home!! Fingers crossed.

This worked like a charm! Thank you for making my day/week/month!
Note - pull up part sensor inserts into - it does make it a little easier to get the new sensor in place.

Thank you for the fine info. I repair printers for a living and this video saved me much head scratching and time. I had a photo interupter from an old Canon copier and used it. Worked like a champ.

@cujmonguy Cool- looks like these parts might be common and interchangeable. Thanks for the comment!

Thanks so much for making/posting this video.
I love my printer and did not want to have to replace it!
Will agree with previous comment. The new part was slightly larger than the original. Use a knife & pliers to trim away some plastic and it will fit in easily.
Thanks again :-)

Thanks for posting this vid.

@Live4TodaySoCal Hey- glad it worked out for you :)
sts121 1 year ago
Very Clear video demonstration with concise and accurate text instructions. I followed it exactly and now my printer is working again. I had no idea what was wrong or how to fix it until I looked at this video. I also enjoyed the wind chimes and bird song. Thank you very much.
Postage to UK $38.95!!! It arrived in only 6 days though, in a huge box. I took goosedude's advice and bought three since the minimum order is $6 and they are $1.85 each. an easy repair for the amateur.

@LiterateGuitarist Wow- expensive postage- good idea buying more than one!
sts121 1 year ago
Just fixed mine....To clarify mjd164x's tip on how to get the sensor back in easily....
The bracket the sensor fits into is basically connected to an entire plastic piece that is part of the paper guide......this piece is able to be lifted up if you pull right side of the printer slightly....allowing it to slide up
Once this entire piece is lifted you can easily remove/install the sensor into its bracket. Pull the right side of the printer to let you slide the plastic piece back down.
goosedude 1 year ago
It should be noted that the part is only $ 1.85.....and Samsung requires a $ 6.00 Minimum order (They charge any amount lower than that as "Handling").
Buying 1 costs you $ 12.00 with USPS Priority Shipping....Buying 3 costs $ 11.75....Go figure.
So buy 3 of them.........you will probably need them anyway.
goosedude 1 year ago 2
@goosedude Thanks- good advice
sts121 1 year ago
@goosedude I know, I should have bought more than 1 part... ohh well, next time it breaks I'll buy a few
sts121 1 year ago
Thanks a million! This worked great and the printer is finally up and running. Great job!
davevine22 1 year ago
Outstanding.
STS121, Many thanks for this video!
