Great video! I have a shepherd, who looks just like your other dog in the video. Her sister looks more like Belgian Mal- what is your other dog? Also Dutch? German Shepherd? Thanks!
thats unbelievable!!!!!!!! it looks like a sweetheart!!! im actually trying to get one. i used to have a german shepard female, and it was the greatest dog i ever had. i always keeped her active by do flyball, frisby, and just doing simple tricks. is there a big difference in temperment between a german shepherd and a dutchies? and do they have the same health problems? i really wanna ket one
i must admit the harness drop does look proper terrible to your normal pet dog owner or your wannabe trainer (APDT) but these are working breeds and im sure they are very sound, well adjusted and well rewarded dogs. dont fret, no animal cruelty required!!
First of all, Dutch Shepherds are highly intelligent working dogs. If you don't reach it tricks, it will start misbehaving out of frustration. This is both good physical and mental exercise for the dog and strengthens the bond between owner and dog.
Second of all, this breed is often used by police and as a rescue dog; trained dogs will be flown out to other countries to find survivors of earthquakes and such, hence the harness training.
@nuttman2 Not everyone has access to professional equipment all the time, if that's what you mean. And one slip and they're done? They're not made of porcelain. A dog that is physically in good shape, for example by training them as shown, will recover from minor injuries without too much trouble. And there will be injuries, they're like little kids. Can't lock them in a padded room for their entire lives.
It's not a collar drop he has a harness on him...you can see it when the dog gets to the ground... granted it probably was uncomfortable but it shouldn't have hurt him any.
@24codegeass Lowering the dog in a harness is part of the training that helps deploy these dogs in emergency situations, such as areas stricken by earthquakes and tsunamis, so they can search for and rescue survivors. It saves lives. So you can get your panties out of a twist now.
You people are dumb as hell! He has a harness on!! These working breeds have the best lives! Because they WORK and DO what they LOVE to do! Its funny how all the closed minded whack jobs come out of the wood work when we post working dogs on youtube Good Job Mate, Your dutchie has incredible drive!!
if you look closely when he is being lowered it is by a harness on his chest this dog is fine i should know because he is my dog and i watched the whole thing in person!
I'm one of the girls in the other videos(im not the one who got stung by a bee)
all I can say is WOW!!! I wish I could train my future dog to do this.. I 'll have to train it to climb and descend ladder to get in and out of the boat.
Great vid. Thanks for sharing! now I know it could be done :D
@tallwall45-- you start by first introducing the dog to ALL types of surfaces...until they dont bat an eye at any of them. Then, to move onto ladders you start with one laying flat on the ground. Then level on cinderblocks. Then one end raised a bit. Baby steps. Of course, a solid foundation is essential. The dog needs to have unfailing obedience off-lead and with distraction..or they will end up getting hurt.
@d3ql-- no this is called preparing. These are working dogs. Would it be better to NOT train them for situations they encounter during the course of their work? BECAUSE they work in dangerous, often unpredictable settings it is necessary to train them for every scenario one can possible think of. To not properly train the dog--and practice, practice, practice until they have it cold like this one--would get them hurted-- or worse.
He's using a harness. I have a dutchie, phenominal dogs. Mine is great with the kids and is lightening fast when we go on a run. Very smart almost human like behavior. Mine doesn't communicate with the tail. Mostly with the rest of his body language. Does yours?
Highly trained dog, but I don't think it was fair to give the dog a Platz when he was on top of a ladder and could have fallen off and really hurt himself in a 2 story fall to the ground. I think this is irresponsible. Good training, but very, very poor judgement in how this training is applied in my opinion. I don't think making a dog climb stairs is fair to dog that can really get badly injured.

nice video and enjoy it ....hate it when people had a negative comments..i knew for sure they all enjoyd this video...dont hate ..participate!..i have a dutch and a malinois..
@DGK12798 They are both really great breeds. I own a Belgian and my friend owns a dutch. Height males 24-26 inches Females 22-24 inches
Weight: 55-65 pounds for Belgians and dutch get about Height: 22-25 inches
Weight: 65-67 pounds Her Dutch is really vocal and is attached to her my Belgian is SUPER fast and her dutch is stronger. They are both smart but my Belgian responds quicker but that is probably just training. Her's is really clumsy though but it is only 6 months.
My Dutch can parashute... jk this breed is very intelligent. Mine is trained to sniff out just about anything and stops at no end to protect the family... ask the few dumb assess that tried to come over the gate lol you can tell its them from the bite mark on the ass..lol
i have, however, always been confused by people using the german word "platz" for the command to lie down... you know it means "place" right? not down. and there are words for all these other commands you're using as well. LOL
also, your boy is agile for sure, but this isn't what's called "agility" - an actual dog sporting and show event.
@LilHoneyMama I'm guessing that they use that since telling a dog like this (guard, attack, police, military dog) to lie down, would generally mean staying still for awhile too, so they use "platz" or "place" as a way of telling the dogs "Down, and stay."
@DhabyaniVIP yes, but barely. they are about the same size/weight and structure, are matched in athleticism, but are easily distinguished by coat colorings - German Shepherds are only black/tan or white, Dutch Shepherds are only dark brindle. i believe the Dutch Shep was bred from German Shepherds, but i'm not an expert on this breed. they are somewhat rare in America.

To not prepare the dog properly would not only be jeopardizing its life--it'd be jepardizing the lives of people--both victims and other rescuers as well.

very nice.
type of training and commands you use sound very familiar.
i train my dutchie at a place were we use same commands no food/toy rewards, just good communication.
i also started using play structures at schools this past summer
excellent work

Absolutely brilliant !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm a big fan of this type of training and I think you and your dog have set a standard which many wont even get near, let alone match or be better.
Congratulations on a great dog and some superb training.
