the ending really upset me in this movie, it leaves you with an upset feeling that one is free and the other has to stay....both are at "fault", no one is more innocent than the other, they both agreed to the trip and so forth

you can't even be happy one gets to be free, when you know the other has to stay in there for life...alone! :(

Wikipedia says that as this movie pointed a disparaging light at the Thai legal system most of it was filmed in the Philippines. I just watched it again a few minutes ago, and I noticed that indeed the prison guards did not look like Thai's. Thai's are generally prettier in my opinion. Of course their legal system is still just as shitty.

@clintonearlwalker you would know the difference of Filipino's and Thai's. Filipinos speak english more fluently. You can compare an ordinary Filipino People to the degree holders of other Asian Nations in terms of fluently speaking in English. Other nationality needs to be a degree or title holder to be fluent in english but in the Philippines even a beggar can speak and understand english although not as fluent as Filipino Degree holders. Thanx to the US occupancy on World War 2

@Doberzinecker Actually, I know very little about Thai's or Filipino's. I've never been within 2000 miles of either place and I don't think I've ever known either a Thai or Filipino. I only know from what I see on TV and in movies. The US occupation after WW II was because of the Japanese occupation of the Philippines. My uncle was in the Air Force and he was at Subic Bay several times. I'm sorry, but I can't look at a person and tell if they are Filipino or Thai. I live in Maryland.

What's the point of this movie? Both of the girls are innocent but only one of them goes free while the other serves time for something she didn't do? What kind of message is that? That's not a good movie. If it were a good movie, both of them would get out because they're innocent.

Also, this movie is based on the reality on how many people are used as pond games for drug smuggling like these girls were. They were purposely arrested so the real drug smugglers can get the drugs to Hong Kong. It has happened in real life unfortunately.

Manila, the jail side. this movie was banned bcuz Claire Danes said to "Vogue" that Manila was a "ghastly and weird city", and "smelled of cockroaches, with rats all over and that there is no sewage system". im Filipino, and its true, so i dont think we owe her an apology.but she havent seen the good places in PH, but i like her specially her movie "Stardust".might have another visit Ms.Danes just dont go to Manila again, we have so many beautiful places.
