It's been a while, off and on from serious weightlifting.. I benched 240lbs so far, haven't tried 250 yet but I'm pretty sure it will go. I just need to stay focused on keeping the muscles strong. As long as I can lift 250lbs from the bench at my age (36) I will feel good :)
nice. my max is 190. i brought it up from 175 to 190 in 2 months. all i did was use a muscle building technique where u do like 6-8 reps with heavy weight. 3 or 4 sets. and once weekly. but its also important take ur protein and carbs.
I'm a real big guy (300 lbs, albeit portly), not too tall about 6' trying to lose weight and get stronger. I had a hell of a time getting over the 220 lbs mark. I think the advice about using your back is very useful. You may find (or have found) it easier to lift the bar with more condensed weight, it's much more stable.
Thanks for the help guys! Update is that I can now do about 10 reps with 200lbs without too man problems. I have gone up to 220 for max weight. Still working on that 250. I can definitely feel the strength developing on my shoulders and back at this point. Cheers.
how u build muscle on the bunch is 1 go down slow, push up as hard as u can 2 have a spotter so u can go to failure without having the bar sit on ur chest 3 try doing 150 reps with the bar only.. ur arms will burn like no other and u will build muscle fast do more reps rathern than with weight on
Yeah, I know. LOL! I should go out and buy two 50 pounders from somewhere. I am looking to build muscle, and work the bench ;o) I am currently doing 10x150lbs reps for 3 sets. Seems to be a good excercise/weight for developing upper body strength. I should be able to bench 250lbs in the not too distant future. Thanks for the kind words btw!
You said you wanted advice?
before you press, take your gloves off.
Gloves artificially make the bar thicker, making it a bit harder for you to press.

@olinehog74 High reps low weight sculpts the muscle, low rep high weight builds muscle.

Nice bench, you might wana get some bigger plates before you can fit 250lbs on there :).
Btw you looking to build muscle or just work the bench?

good job...remember to work your back muscles, as well, they will improve your bench and u'll be at 250 in no time.
