  • JUST GET A DROPPED A INSTEAD OF DROPPED A# YOU CAN DO ALL THIS WITH A BASIC 7 STRING SET TOO ELIMINATING THE THIN E CHORD YOU DON'T NEED ANY SPECIAL STRINGS

  • i use 10 gauge strings for drop A# you dont need 12 gauge thats a guitarcenter clerk that cant tune for shit

  • D to A# is not a Major 3rd, its a diminished 4th

    D to Bb is a Major 3rd C:

  • "We start with the A sharp, thats where the tuning gets its name from"

    xD

  • GO SCHECTER!

  • Nice video. I have no complaints about the quality and tuning stability of the Not Even Slinky's.

Also, I guess DR recently came out with a heavy-gauge string package, the "DDT," which are reportedly pretty stable and tone-worthy as well. So in case you can't find NES's locally, DR's might be another option.

  • is that a hellraiser solo-6? thats the one im going to be gettin soon :)

  • im having trouble setting up my guitar for this tuning if you could maybe post up a vid on how to set up a guitar for this tuning i would really really appreciate it cause its been a nightmare for me and iv spending alot of money on setups any help would great from somebody if anybody knows a guitar tech in new york that could set up a guitar for this tuning that would be great

  • can someone tell me how many steps this is down from standard??

  • Just get a 7 string

  • @shockwavepulsar99

if it's tuned down to drop d or c or b it should sound decent but just higher pitch sounding

  • Question, is a bass tuned the same way? Can songs that are tuned in drop a# be played in Standard tuning? Or do you HAVE to tune down? Please help!!!

  • @Shockwavepulsar99 of course you can the low E of a bass is still lower then drop A#. The low A# would be a halfstep higher then the A of the bass so you still have 6 notes lower then said A#.

    Hope that helps

  • Well, I use 12's all the time, but one thing bothers me badly, and that is the 24p. It should be replaced with a wound string, due to the fact that higher frets are sharp, and it doesn't vibrate too well. It also feels weird.

  • d'addario makes some 13's. also, baritone strings work well for this and dropping even lower.

  • Oh, and it's just a Drop D 3 steps down.

  • 0.11 is good enough too.

  • i play my bc rich beast platinum with a 7-string set (just thrown away the highest) in a drop a# tuning

  • Hah, I like the name on the EB strings. "Not even slinky," thats pretty good =]

  • Uhh, 4th fret would be D, not E.

  • correct me if im wrong but your 4th fret would be D not E.if the open note is a# and 2 frets up(a whole step)is c the the 4th fret would be D..and the 6TH is E

  • @saintsinner82

You are correct sir, my apologies-4th fret is D!

  • no prob bro..jus wanted to chime in before someone else did and was douchey bout it..by the wat sick schecter =)

  • yea dude A# is pretty fun tuning to play in..i use Jazz mediums 13-56...its a great mix of tension and slink..so it holds tuning but its not brutal on your hands..and i play eclipse and les paul style guitars

  • I would think you could get by with a med set of strings I play a Low C tuning on my tele with extra lights and it plays fine

So to compensate for the extra drop I would think Med strings would work fine

now Im off to test it as soon as I go to the music store to buy some new string

But no matter what to play in off tunings is so much fun and thanks for the lesson

and a just a note on the clip on tuner that brand works great bought one for $14.00 at Elderly Music

    peace

    Paul

  • Hey Josh! {=

Cool tutorial! Beautiful Schecter! But i guess it's not a 'cheap' guitar. Among Schecters it is cheap, but really)

And I found my LP bridge is okay only with specific gauge of strings. On a thicker it gets stuck, on a thinner set some frets resonate in a weird way, so not every guitar can wear any set of strings! )

But I totally agree, using heavy gauge for low tuning is much better than thin set of strings.

  • @steamlilly

Great hearing from you and thanks for the comments....as you know "cheap" is a relative term here.

Good comment about the bridge too, I'll have to address that in a future installment.
