what do i do if my calf had a nice strait back and now he has a big dip in his back what happend and how do i fix it?P.S. how do i keep him from bloating????
@Bilbybalfany to keep them from bloating, slowly raise the amount of grain your giving him and free feed his alfalfa of grass hay :) sometimes that doesnt always wokrk though cuz my steer this year bloated..... if you just keep a good eye on them all the time you shouldnt have that problem :)))
Great video I am a starter and this is my first time to show and all your tips are great.Due you thank you can get with me at bohanonleeterry@aol.com so I can give you my number though my email.....thank you
@horsegurlnpa2 If you are standing nose to tail bring the the left leg forward a little bit. If you are standing side by side keep the two back legs even (square).
@amaysingprouctions and @steerheifercowgirl98, I showed a black brangus, and in scramble I got 1st, jr opean I got 2nd, and opean I got 1st. With my other heifer I got 3rd in jr opean and 2nd in opean((: But, I caught again, and I really dont know what I am gunna show yet.
@dancermet depends on where you live- if you live in the south where it's hot, get something with Brahman blood...or a Brahman! (my favorite!) and if it's cold, go with a long haired British breed! something like a shorthorn or charlai! hope that helps :)
@amaysingproductions Charlai. Be carefull they are very fidgety animals. and if you are showing them they are quite small. I showed one once. She was pretty small but a really good calf. :)
There are lot of great breeds of cattle out there, obviously Angus is our preference. Contact breed associations, your neighbors or county agents, they can help you determine which direction you should take. Good luck this year!
It is good to start early and practice. If you clip them out a month before, you can go back over them later on. This will allow you to fix any mistakes.
@2blondebombshell I clip mine 2 or 3 days before. Its easier to work with. If you get it done to early you might find that you have to clip some spots that grow in fast on the day of the show.

With setting up steers is seen some people set them perfectly square and some have a leg set slightly behind them. What is the correct way?

I would clip your steers somewhere near three days before show. I would bath and brush the day of show.

Be sure to watch Part 1 of Fitting and Showing Angus Cattle. These tips are great no matter what breed you have, though.
