@Synicade - The perspective of what? A bunch of horny frat boys playing stupid games amongst each other? Nope, doesn't offend me in the slightest. Again, this sounds to me exactly like a "who's hotter?" survey between bros.
Rape has other causes than sexual attraction. No, it's not at all like asking who would you have sex with. To have sex and to rape are very different things. And it's demeaning to people, men too, who have been raped if this is a fantasy game. Apparently not illegal but still demeaning.
Technically, you have you lose your right to the first amendment if you use that right to infringe another's rights. So I completely understand why people would get upset over this. If this had happened years ago, & your sister, Jon, was on that list, how would you have reacted?
I think it was a bad idea to word it that way simply because of the word "rape". Should the students be expelled or punished severely? No, but they should be advised that their choice of words was found to be offensive by those outside the fraternity.
Wasn't there a Supreme Court thing where a guy was holding a poster saying "Bong hits for Jesus". Then he gets arrested but he tried to defend himself with the Freedom of speech and it went to Supreme Court and ended up guilty? Wouldn't this be like a similar situation?
I joke with my friends about that am going to rape them, some times I even write "rape" to them in mesages, then say "You just got raped" when they find the mesage.
There is no direct relationship between what people say and do.
Also, Id say the Q is asking, "Who do you want to insult" rather than have sex with
@PotatisSlottet I get that, but I think there is a big difference between joking with your friend that they somehow got "raped" and talking in hypothetical terms about who you would rape. Your friends are there to joke with you about it, they are involved with the joke so they are permitting you to use that terminology. The girls on this list were not in on the joke, they weren't being joked with, they were being spoken about, and there is a big difference between the two.
I ask my friends questions like "Who would you kill first if you where a zombie?", "How would you comit suicide?", and "How would you rape?". We actualy have intelegent discusions on absurd matters, just for fun. There is nothing that implys we are going to hurt anyone else!
Its so obvious nobodys going to do it that it shouldnt be a problem!
@PotatisSlottet I wish it were that obvious but the statistics speak for themselves, 60% of male college students “indicated some likelihood of raping or using force in certain circumstances.” "1 in 4 women in college today has been the victim of rape, and nearly 90% of them knew their rapist." the other 2 questions you meantion are unoffensive as one is asking a person about how they would treat themselves & the zompocolypse is ok (and amusing) due to obvious absurdity x
Man, this is a tough one. It was an idiotic thing for the frat to do, and if one of my female family members happened to be on that list, I might be cracking some skulls.
But there shouldn't be any kind of legal action against them. The constitution was written to protect actions that people will NOT like, and this falls under that heading.
If you want to make colleges a safer environment for women, forget about these assholes, and work on allowing concealed carry of firearms on campus.
Now think of this like video games. Yeah you kill people but it isn't bad until you actually think about it. That's what I hate about some people. You hear rape you turn into a fuss. Yeah it's horrible to hear about but if it is just something you would point out there is nothing bad about it. Now your an idiot if you actually attempt to rape someone or even plan. It's just something to ask. Rape is not something to laugh about it but everyone has freedom of opinion and speech.
@executive80 - My opinion wouldn't change. Speech is speech. Rape isn't something to be joked about, which is fine, since we're not talking about rape. We're talking about a bunch of frat boys who are talking about rape.
People never crease to disgust me, I personally blame all those asshole gamers who whenever they get a bad score in a game they say "I got raped that round!" and I say that as passionate gamer myself!
tasteless and rather insensitive however the likelyhood of them actually raping the person on the list is about the same as that of me actually rolling on the floor laughing when i write 'rofl'
Discussion of rape doesnt just demean women, its potentially terrifying/worrying for the women being discussed as a matter of safety. Young women get raped in collage campuses ALL THE TIME! Saying "who would you rape" is nothing like saying "who would you have sex with".

sounds like a group of dumb guys did something dumb. until they actually DO rape someone, this shouldnt be an issue. however, the list should be recorded by the police as it sounds like it may become handy evidence one day.
I understand that perhaps these idiots were merely using the term to underline how much they wanted to fuck some chick or to get attention through shock value. Regardless it was thoughtless stupid and creepy. Expressing it that way has no upside and is demeaning to all involved.
Its within these idiots rights to ask such a retarded question. But I think it was irresponsible of the leadership of that fraternity to allow the act of rape to be so trivialized. Doing so can only devalue it as a taboo or unacceptable behavior in people's minds. Something as wrong as rape should not be made into a joke, especially when you are asking the names of specific people. How fuckin creepy is that?
It's offensively worded, but if what you say is true about the attention it's getting, then it's not deserving of that. It would be, had they gone and raped the listed people, but as far as we all know, they didn't.
It's a bad idea, but mostly for the "what other people think of you" repercussions. These boys deserve no punishment for asking a question and answering it as Davek1013 said, it was a hypothetical question with no meaning behind it.
asking a question like that is basically admitting to the intent of rape, because the way it's asked implies that there is someone to be raped. thats why they should be punished : intending to rape another person.
@highac3s No, its basically admitting they are idiot frat boys and probably a bit on the sexist side, If someone asked you something like "If you had a gun loaded with 1 bullet, who would you kill?" You would not automatically assume they are a murderer. Its a hypothetical question
@Jon highac3s is right.... in explaining how fucked up our law and crime/charging system can be sometimes. Although wording it better probably would solve the problem, we shouldn't really have too. Sometimes the law is too damn insecure to handle an expression in freedom of speech, because we'd assume that one thing leads to another. It just seems that quite a sizable amount of people today prefer a closed-fist over an open-mind.
@Jon well when you know then fill us in, we can't assume either way but rape on campus IS a big issue and one that deserves to be dealt with alot more delicately and sensitively than you have. Maybe it would be best if you researched these issues more thoroughly before telling people "tough shit". attitudes like this on campus reflect the attitudes that males on campus have about rape and seeing as 1 in 4 college girls are raped it is very ignorant to assume these boys will not rape anyone
@highac3s You ever played the game "Do, Kill, Marry"? If so, according to your logic, you are a felon of murder. Would you like to rethink that logic?
no, you can say whatever you want in america, if rick perry can say something's wrong with america if gay people can serve in the military, why the fuck can't guy's ask each other who they would rape without even doing it...
Probably because of all the college movies I've seen through the years, I have a stereotypical view of Frat Guys being horny drunk douchbags. So the story in general was kinda of a "meh" to me. I'm in no means saying my stereotype is accurate right or true, I am in college and have friends in frats and have been invited to join a few fraternities and most of the guys are generally good guys, and like any group the 10% aholes ruin it for everyone else. Must of been a slow newsday
@Jon. I think you're right, but the question is worded wrong....theres the Fuck, marry, kill game. and no one cares talking about killing girls rather than having sec or marrying them, so people need to chill. BTW yo should do a video on the kids getting suspended for tebowing in the hallway
@Jon You are sadly mistaken. Someone who is highly impressionable could take the question the wrong way and think it's ok. It's just not okay to ask that sort of question, any way you spin it, Jon. In my opinion.
I think that it is somewhat of a serious issue. As a man you don't understand how scary the aspect of actually getting raped is. If a girl found out her name was on the list she would probably be extremely freaked out.
However i do agree that simply wording it differently would have avoided the whole issue.
@TheEnvy911 wow, if you're name was on the list you could be extremely freaked out, seriously, is that your biggest argument LOL if people should be punished for freakin out other people...
and men can also be raped just sayin' it does happen, however doesn't get covered that often and ofcourse occurs fewer times but still just sayin' ;)
The problem I find here is that the frat boys are equating rape with having sex. Both things involve f*cking but they're 2 different things. It's not just about demeaning women, it's about trivializing a crime which happens to people around the world.
Like you said, Jon, the list itself isn't the issue here. it's a dumb frat-boy fantasy game. The word 'rape' (again, like you said) is the issue here. it makes light of a very serious crime - not just against women, mind you, it's against men as well! The word's become an off-beat slang-term for having sex with someone who may not entirely desire you the way you do them and that alone reduces the impact of not only the word, but the crime. Re-word the list and there's no problem, in my opinion.
@DigitalWoman1292 I agree with your comment and wanted to add, people use it cavalierly now, I see it here on YouTube all the time "I just raped the replay button". :-/
It's always a fine line to walk with these things. Leave it be and have possible people raped and have law enforcement be scrutinized because they didn't take action or have some silly joke of idiots get them in trouble for doing almost nothing.
In the context, I dont find it that big of a deal. In reality though, it kinda is. I agree that just wording it different would have been the right way to go. Its hard to say whats right or wrong in this type of thing. Honestly I think they shouldn't have asked, and the news shouldn't have reported on it. Everyone is wrong.
You'd think this frat realize that some people now-a-days takes things too seriously. I wouldn't doubt these types of questionnaires has happened before elsewhere in other frats and colleges. As a woman who watches this show, I will admit to some extent the survey does bother me a little. However, I also realize that the media has too much power in distracting the public from much more important events. This story should not have been given so much national attention.
definity not, have a small local news rant, punish the idiots who done it with 30 days public service in those god-awful signal orange jumpsuits, and call it quits
Frats are full of idiots. I, however, think it is fine for a national fraternal order (i.e. a private organization) to limit the speech of one of it's local chapters in order to maintain their sense of dignity and reputation. I also would agree with school actions against those who certainly violated the school's code of conduct. A violation of first amendment free speech would only occur if police or military action was a response. Free speech isn't a pass to say everything everywhere!
25% of american women have been raped so its this kind of "HARMLESS" joke that encourages rape and the attitude amongst american youths today is that its ok to rape coz if u dont rape them how r u going to have sex with them, coz they say no most of the time
@SmallKittensOnFire try doing research.. in the last year in american 1.3 million women suffered rape or attempted rape. in one year. This is a US governement survey. 1 in 4 women have been victims of violent attacks from their PARTNER. 1 in 6 women has been stalked via text or sick messages on WEBSITES LIKE THIS AND TWITTER.
@DreadsideNubune Well, 71% of domestic violence was commited by women. And 3 out of every 10 rape 'victims' later admitted that they falsified the story.
@SmallKittensOnFire acxtually 2-3% is the conviction rate... not the rape rate. The conviction rate is far lower than the true number of raped happening because most women don't go to court over it and thos that do very rarely get justice....
Also I don't really like the actual 1 in 4 women being victims line either It never implies WHAT actually happened.. A slap? Come on. How many men have "been victims of violent attacks"? in their lifetimes as well? I know I have.
Domestic violence is obviously a heinous crime, Its just blown out of proportion. 1 in 4 women may have been slapped, but 1 in 4 women have NOT been abused. I don't buy it.
@Davek1013 ask ur own govenrment of usa coz they done the surveys dont rape the messenger althoug im sure u would if ur american man (just going by the facts there is high chance u would rape the messenger)
I love the song Rape me from Nirvana, so I don't really think to much about it, and I am a girl. If I had been raped before in real life, I can imagine being very offended by it because rape is a horrible thing!
I can't see the problem - If nobody actually got raped then what's the big deal? Sure, it may offend but it was only a question, nobody acted upon it - it was a joke
Is it not the same as asking "Who would you kill if you could kill anybody?"? (questionmarkception). They're both really bad crimes, but because rape is about sex, it's REALLY bad apparently. I always wondered why violent movies with stabbing and shooting are fine for young people too see, but movies with sex - an act of love - are terrible. Same principles I guess.
Wording was stupid, but attention uncalled for. People need to be able to brush it off. I can understand when people get upset about something like this, but at the end of the day it's probably quite harmless.
The trouble with asking who they would rape is that there very likely are a few rapists in the frat and questions like that make it seem more socially acceptable. I don't think anyone's free speech should be limited but it was a very dumb thing to ask and very offensive. Like George Carlin said though, you can always joke about rape. Just picture Porky Pig raping Elmer Fudd and tell me rape isn't funny.
I agree with you, in saying that they have all the right in the world to ask that, but i still feel they should have reworded that question. also, Luofdoom makes a good point in stating that there could have been other worse questions asked, such as "who do you want dead?" or things like that. They are allowed to ask a question like the one they did, and people should respect that, but as good people they shouldn't have. that is my opinon.
Seriously Jon? Seriously? Tell me the difference then between "who would you rape" and something like "which faggot would you beat to death" or "which nigger would you hang from a tree".
@ludofdoom That is a really good way of putting it. I think the whole thing is pretty disgusting. Yes, they have the legal right to say that, but that doesn't mean it isn't bad.
No its not really a big deal, but it is in very bad taste. Nothing worse than South Park though.

JohnCx666x 2 months ago 2
It's offensively worded, but if what you say is true about the attention it's getting, then it's not deserving of that. It would be, had they gone and raped the listed people, but as far as we all know, they didn't.

It's a bad idea, but mostly for the "what other people think of you" repercussions. These boys deserve no punishment for asking a question and answering it as Davek1013 said, it was a hypothetical question with no meaning behind it.

asking a question like that is basically admitting to the intent of rape, because the way it's asked implies that there is someone to be raped. thats why they should be punished : intending to rape another person.
highac3s 2 months ago
@highac3s No, it's asking a hypothetical question.
It is a very different question from, "Who are you going to rape?"
MrFungus420 2 months ago
@highac3s No, its basically admitting they are idiot frat boys and probably a bit on the sexist side, If someone asked you something like "If you had a gun loaded with 1 bullet, who would you kill?" You would not automatically assume they are a murderer. Its a hypothetical question
Davek1013 2 months ago
@highac3s - So, if they made a list of, "which celebrity would you kill?" - they should all locked-up for murder?
Really?

@Jon highac3s is right.... in explaining how fucked up our law and crime/charging system can be sometimes. Although wording it better probably would solve the problem, we shouldn't really have too. Sometimes the law is too damn insecure to handle an expression in freedom of speech, because we'd assume that one thing leads to another. It just seems that quite a sizable amount of people today prefer a closed-fist over an open-mind.
IMMADARKMAN 2 months ago
@Jon 1 in 4 celebs are not killed by college students....... 1 in 4 college girls ARE raped... thats the difference...

@crystalwillow - How do you know it wasn't a list of, "which celebrity would you rape?".
Jon 2 months ago
@Jon well when you know then fill us in, we can't assume either way but rape on campus IS a big issue and one that deserves to be dealt with alot more delicately and sensitively than you have. Maybe it would be best if you researched these issues more thoroughly before telling people "tough shit". attitudes like this on campus reflect the attitudes that males on campus have about rape and seeing as 1 in 4 college girls are raped it is very ignorant to assume these boys will not rape anyone

Mrevo599 2 months ago
@Jon You are sadly mistaken. Someone who is highly impressionable could take the question the wrong way and think it's ok. It's just not okay to ask that sort of question, any way you spin it, Jon. In my opinion.
NobodysOffTheHook 2 months ago 3
I think that it is somewhat of a serious issue. As a man you don't understand how scary the aspect of actually getting raped is. If a girl found out her name was on the list she would probably be extremely freaked out.
However i do agree that simply wording it differently would have avoided the whole issue.

The problem I find here is that the frat boys are equating rape with having sex. Both things involve f*cking but they're 2 different things. It's not just about demeaning women, it's about trivializing a crime which happens to people around the world.
Khaeysa 2 months ago
Like you said, Jon, the list itself isn't the issue here. it's a dumb frat-boy fantasy game. The word 'rape' (again, like you said) is the issue here. it makes light of a very serious crime - not just against women, mind you, it's against men as well! The word's become an off-beat slang-term for having sex with someone who may not entirely desire you the way you do them and that alone reduces the impact of not only the word, but the crime. Re-word the list and there's no problem, in my opinion.

It's always a fine line to walk with these things. Leave it be and have possible people raped and have law enforcement be scrutinized because they didn't take action or have some silly joke of idiots get them in trouble for doing almost nothing.
tcbshaded39 2 months ago

25% of american women have been raped so its this kind of "HARMLESS" joke that encourages rape and the attitude amongst american youths today is that its ok to rape coz if u dont rape them how r u going to have sex with them, coz they say no most of the time
DreadsideNubune 2 months ago
@DreadsideNubune You would be wrong, most women have not been raped, the real number is around 2-3%. Also, you take things too seriously.
SmallKittensOnFire 2 months ago
@SmallKittensOnFire try doing research.. in the last year in american 1.3 million women suffered rape or attempted rape. in one year. This is a US governement survey. 1 in 4 women have been victims of violent attacks from their PARTNER. 1 in 6 women has been stalked via text or sick messages on WEBSITES LIKE THIS AND TWITTER.
DreadsideNubune 2 months ago
@DreadsideNubune Well, 71% of domestic violence was commited by women. And 3 out of every 10 rape 'victims' later admitted that they falsified the story.
SmallKittensOnFire 2 months ago
@SmallKittensOnFire and loads of women dont even bother reporting it coz they no ppl like u will be on the otehr side saying they asked for it
DreadsideNubune 2 months ago
@SmallKittensOnFire acxtually 2-3% is the conviction rate... not the rape rate. The conviction rate is far lower than the true number of raped happening because most women don't go to court over it and thos that do very rarely get justice....
crystalwillow 2 months ago
@DreadsideNubune Ok 25% of women have not been raped..
