This halftime show was so amazing that I can't even remember who played. Ever since this halftime show, every year since then has a been a huge disappoint with the entertainment. This year they have Madonna?? Really?? Madonna hasn't been prevalent in the music business for at least 10 years. I don't knock Madonna's talent, because in the day, she was the Diva of music, but come on! I would rather have Lady Gaga than Madonna! Disappointment again for the halftime show coming up!
This year we have to listen to fuckin' madonna?!?! Really? Have these guys do it...there are so many better options out there. I bet the teams come out for the second half pissed at having shit halftime show.
1:57 gives me the chills. Amazing performance by Bono and company! Simply amazing. Screw the Black Eyed Peas, Prince, Rolling Stones, etc. This tops it all.
Looks like Bin Laden made 9 YT accounts and disliked this vid on all of them before he died lololol.... no but seriously, dislike this video and your going to hell!
this just shows why the USA is still the best. we may take a huge blow every once in a while but we still come out on the very top stronger and with more courage than we ever had.
You know a performance is beautiful when you feel that the very depths of your soul has been rejuvenated and refreshed. This performance brings tears to my eyes every time see it. Thanks to U2, one of the greatest bands and my favorite band forever!!!!
I'm having a thought... What if U2 sort of became like what Billy Crystal is to the Oscar's in the sense that U2 does the Superbowl Halftime show ALL THE TIME!
Words can't describe how inspiring this is. For Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullens Jr. to do this for our entire country is remarkable. It gives me chills and brings me to tears every time. Thank you U2, i'll forever be a fan.
I remember watching this when i was sixteen years old, and thinking, man I might actually cry haha and here i was this football running back for my high school and whatever and these guys turned me to mush... this was such a hard time for all of us and i remember watching this and honestly, I can say that I think with this performance, people united together and sang and danced and all became happy again. at least for a little while.
1:05 let the goosebumps just set in and let the shiver shoot down your spine. The buildup to this point in the song is just so great and U2 really knows the best songs for every siatuation.I love U2 !
i was too young to appreciate U2's music when i first watched this. if my present self first saw this halftime show in 2002, i would've been mindblown beyond belief... oh my god, u2. oh my god :D
Thank you, @ChicagoFan32. @Joguchas, read your history. We were perfectly justified in going to war. Bush, along with Congress and the entire CIA and UN, were fooled by Saddam's boasting of nuclear materials, and the best intelligence available supported the eventual decision to go to war. And Afghanistan? If you think that war was unjustified, you're an idiot.
This is so hard to watch, even now. It makes me want to cry. Such a powerful performance with such a powerful set. really goes to show you how people can come together.
The point of this isn't that were proud of our country or it's actions....I see this as a tribute to all Americans, all humans, coming together in a time of need. Honor those who sacrifice, despite how wrong you think your government is. You always working for a higher power....
In that big sign must be included the names of 2,000,000 of innocent kids, woman and man that have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, just because a lie. (Ok, also because of petroleum)
@Joguecas A lie... Oh lord if Youtube only allotted me enough characters to shread your ignorance with pure rhetoric and sincere logic. Listen here, if the slaughtering of 3,000 people doesn't warrant full scale action what does? Hmmm....maybe the hundreds of thousands slaughtered by Saddam...still not enough for you? Children brainwashed from birth being led to believe eviscerating their bodies to enflict maximum terror and death upon innocence...still not enough for you? May God help you.
@Joguecas I take it, I won the argument since you didn't even present one to defend your claims in your earlier comment? My friend, I would like to say my eyes are wide open, literally and metaphorically. I understand what's going on with the U.S. much more than you do, because I'm not blinded by some huge bias, which you obviously have. The U.S. will always do the dirty work no other country will handle, and we will continue to take the perpetual ridicule. We will persist regardless.
It really pisses me off that a lot these people are looking back at cameras to see if they're on tv and are basically ignoring one of the greatest perfomances in recent times.

@kingkong3601 This was not meant to "feed the post 911 hysteria". I watched this live, and the moment was almost so big that it escaped me. I remember thinking 'U2 has just gone somewhere else altogether." Watching it again, and again, I think they knew as they played that something special was occurring. They were on a different level that night. "Where the Streets Have No Name was majestic, and triumphant. His hand raised high, a primal yell. "That's power!" Simply remarkable.
@hawkman256, Glad you watched it live and I am jealous that I wasn't there! I watch this vid very often and I wish I had been there!!! I can't stand political celebrities or bands but I respect the hell out of U2 and Bono. Instead of doing nothing but talk through the media about the wrongs, Bono goes out and takes action regardless of political or social ties. That's commendable.
thanks for saying this, i completely agree with you, its easy to jump on the band wagon and mouth off about him, but the guy speaks with actions and words
very few others do in a position of power like his
blueflagcfcyt, shut your damn mouth. this was one of the most devistating days in american history. and this was an amazing tribute to the ones who lost their lives. dont say f america! were the only country who could have rose from the rubble like we did. we shoved our foot up the ass of terrorist bastards and sent them back to their shitty ass countries. THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA= BEST COUNTRY ON THE F ING PLANET!! long live AMERICA!
When 9/11 happend, I was only 4, so I didnt know what was going on. But today, I get tearly eyed just thinking about it. U2 did a beautiful job on that day. I thank you, U2. All I'm wondering is how I can get this onto my iPod :) I love how they put these two songs together.
@blueflagcfcyt You should go tell the World Court this. They'll probably want you to show them the facts you have, show just put all the YouTube videos you've watched on the conspiracies and put them on a disk...And if you have time after wards, can you tell me where Hoffa was buried?
This has got to be the best opening for this song if ever seen. From the simple notes of the edges guitar style to the feeling in America at that time.Unfortunatly some of the best songs come from pure emotion when things are bad then when everthing is good.
Thanks so much for sharing, this is the first time I've ever seen this performance! Didn't have my own computer back in 2002 let alone internet access!? Thank God for YouTube!!
we shoud never forget that day andthe the people we lost .we all came together like nothing befor U2 i want to thank you from the bottom of my hart for what you did for us the USA and the people of this country mrbats38
Happy Thanksgiving to all...............in difficult times, never forget our blessings and those no longer with us. Thanks to U2 for this timeless classic.
GUys I cant believe how fucking big of douche bags you are being right now. Do you think it is really nice to make fun of people and shit like that under a video like this. Stop being douche bags and go the hell away if you doint have anything nice to say
I realize now that I was completely wrong, but that's exactly what I was talking about. I am proof that there are a lot of people in the US who don't understand what the UK represents or it's relationship with Ireland. It is not easy for me to admit that I was wrong given that I am not just American, but Irish American and should have known better. Unfortunately you're right Carlos I am just another imbecile posting stupid comments and I apologize again for that.

That's why The Joshua Tree has the best album opening ever.
