  • This halftime show was so amazing that I can't even remember who played. Ever since this halftime show, every year since then has a been a huge disappoint with the entertainment. This year they have Madonna?? Really?? Madonna hasn't been prevalent in the music business for at least 10 years. I don't knock Madonna's talent, because in the day, she was the Diva of music, but come on! I would rather have Lady Gaga than Madonna! Disappointment again for the halftime show coming up!

  • Im not Patriots fan but them winning that year just seemed right.

  • This year we have to listen to fuckin' madonna?!?! Really? Have these guys do it...there are so many better options out there. I bet the teams come out for the second half pissed at having shit halftime show.

  • 1:57 gives me the chills. Amazing performance by Bono and company! Simply amazing. Screw the Black Eyed Peas, Prince, Rolling Stones, etc. This tops it all.

  • 10 years ago today has it really been that long?

  • Looks like Bin Laden made 9 YT accounts and disliked this vid on all of them before he died lololol.... no but seriously, dislike this video and your going to hell!

  • Best halftime ever? Fuck yeah...

  • this just shows why the USA is still the best. we may take a huge blow every once in a while but we still come out on the very top stronger and with more courage than we ever had.

  • What an INCREDIBLE band.

  • You know a performance is beautiful when you feel that the very depths of your soul has been rejuvenated and refreshed. This performance brings tears to my eyes every time see it. Thanks to U2, one of the greatest bands and my favorite band forever!!!!

  • Too beautiful.

  • Sad, Happy.

    Poignant, Triumphant.

    Depressed, Ecstatic.

    ..always be positive

..always end on a high note

  • 9 people would rather have justin beiber perform the superbowl halftime show. U2 Freaking rocks!!!

  • THE DEFINITION OF AWESOME

  • Emotion. About 10 years ago, moved again to recall the tears came when a student. I do my best.(感動。約10年前、学生の時に涙が出たのを思い出して改めて感動。頑張るぞ。)

  • I want that jacket

  • What was the first song they played here?

  • The Most Amazing Half Time Shows Ever! Thank You U2!

  • U2 Listen to how huge their sound is. And so infectious. What a great performance. Listen to that crowd.

  • This is just f#%!ng amazing !! One of the best half time shows ever !!!!!!

  • I'm having a thought... What if U2 sort of became like what Billy Crystal is to the Oscar's in the sense that U2 does the Superbowl Halftime show ALL THE TIME!

  • Words can't describe how inspiring this is. For Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullens Jr. to do this for our entire country is remarkable. It gives me chills and brings me to tears every time. Thank you U2, i'll forever be a fan.

  • Guys, pressing the dislike button means: Dis I Like!!

  • 9 People are Black Eyed Peas fans....

  • a crowd will never EVER get that loud again for a halftime show....greatest of all time hands down. AMERICA

  • this made the peas look foolish

  • Def kik butt, WOW

  • I remember watching this when i was sixteen years old, and thinking, man I might actually cry haha and here i was this football running back for my high school and whatever and these guys turned me to mush... this was such a hard time for all of us and i remember watching this and honestly, I can say that I think with this performance, people united together and sang and danced and all became happy again. at least for a little while.

    God bless.

  • incredible. More patriotism not less, and these guys arent even from the US.

  • this is fuckin awesome

  • bottle the moving target

  • it sure doesn't :-(

  • 1:05 let the goosebumps just set in and let the shiver shoot down your spine. The buildup to this point in the song is just so great and U2 really knows the best songs for every siatuation.I love U2 !

  • 9 dislikes? why?

  • @jamiep7

The world just doesnt make sense, huh?

  • Music that goes right into your soul and you forget everything else. The first time I ever got chills watching a live performance.

  • i was too young to appreciate U2's music when i first watched this. if my present self first saw this halftime show in 2002, i would've been mindblown beyond belief... oh my god, u2. oh my god :D

  • Oops. @joguecas, please see below.

  • Thank you, @ChicagoFan32. @Joguchas, read your history. We were perfectly justified in going to war. Bush, along with Congress and the entire CIA and UN, were fooled by Saddam's boasting of nuclear materials, and the best intelligence available supported the eventual decision to go to war. And Afghanistan? If you think that war was unjustified, you're an idiot.

    Anyway, U2 rocks! Brilliant performance.

  • still remains the greatest halftime performance

  • Much better than the black eyed peas

  • @ChicagoFan32 Hell yeah!!!! USA!!!

Way to put the troll back in his place. ^_^

  • beautiful.

  • This is so hard to watch, even now. It makes me want to cry. Such a powerful performance with such a powerful set. really goes to show you how people can come together.

  • The point of this isn't that were proud of our country or it's actions....I see this as a tribute to all Americans, all humans, coming together in a time of need. Honor those who sacrifice, despite how wrong you think your government is. You always working for a higher power....

  • musical history

  • And another thing. I don't care that they are Irish. We are all humans. It makes no difference.

  • I'm not even a huge U2 fan, but this was amazing. Still brings tears. God bless.

  • In that big sign must be included the names of 2,000,000 of innocent kids, woman and man that have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, just because a lie. (Ok, also because of petroleum)

  • @Joguecas Guess the terrorists should have thought of that.

  • @Joguecas A lie... Oh lord if Youtube only allotted me enough characters to shread your ignorance with pure rhetoric and sincere logic. Listen here, if the slaughtering of 3,000 people doesn't warrant full scale action what does? Hmmm....maybe the hundreds of thousands slaughtered by Saddam...still not enough for you? Children brainwashed from birth being led to believe eviscerating their bodies to enflict maximum terror and death upon innocence...still not enough for you? May God help you.

  • @ChicagoFan32

Still with you eyes closed and a next usa president will make something even worst.

  • @Joguecas I take it, I won the argument since you didn't even present one to defend your claims in your earlier comment? My friend, I would like to say my eyes are wide open, literally and metaphorically. I understand what's going on with the U.S. much more than you do, because I'm not blinded by some huge bias, which you obviously have. The U.S. will always do the dirty work no other country will handle, and we will continue to take the perpetual ridicule. We will persist regardless.

  • The Edge is the greatest understated guitarist in history.

  • Binladen BOLLOX

  • I think Hawkman256 hit a bullseye. Great comment!

  • goosebumps...................

  • It really pisses me off that a lot these people are looking back at cameras to see if they're on tv and are basically ignoring one of the greatest perfomances in recent times.

  • To have the balls to attempt to associate a song with 9/11 on such a grand stage, is amazing. To pull it off, and captivate the audience and nation is once in a lifetime.

  • I can't really hear him singing. Whoever handled the sound really dropped the ball, the microphones needed to be turned up.

  • @Thumper17 Turn your hearing aid up. It sounds great to me.

  • @u2b9876

Maybe Bono should have not mumbled the beginning of the song.

  • @Thumper17 yeah, turn your hearing aid up grandad.

  • @bansheewhiskey

I'm 19, not quite the age of a granddad. And I'm sort of hard of hearing in my left ear. Nice of you youtube assholes to be tolerant.

  • @Thumper17

He was actually praying. It's from Psalms 51:15.

"O Lord, loosen my lips, so my mouth show forth Thy praise."

    Hope this helps!

  • @Wingnutinca

Indeed it does. Makes sense as to why he wasn't saying it very loud.

  • SIMPLY

  • they need to bring these guys back for a preformance at the 10 annyversary of 9/11

  • Whether you like them or not U2 absolutely nailed it that day

  • I reckon that was their best performance, even though it was one song it was probably the best choice of song.

  • It seems to me like U2 is more than themselves, if that makes any sense to you.

  • Tears, not words, will always be how I describe this performance. Simply magnificent.

  • Sense 2002 they have not had a halftime show an where near this great. They really should get U2 to preforme again to show ever one how it's done. They brought there A game that night and more.

  • @Epica124 Prince was better than this.

  • @LiLpLaYaS69 Prince sucked.

  • @Epica124 or maybe they should just create another 9/11 FAG?

  • Best.Production.EVER.

  • it was a hard time for us but for u2 to to do this for the usa is grate never forget thanks u2 and lets all get a flag and fly it like wee did a day after we were hit remember we all are americans no matter what race be proud.and help our troops .this is from a nam vet thanks u2 i will never forget

  • @mrbats38 - "I dont think any AMERICAN will ever forget tht day of horror and shock tht hit our soil. I know I will not and it still makes me angry to know the perpertrators are STILL at large and I wonder when or if they will ever be brought ot justice? TY for your service and dedication."

  • Best half time superbowl EVER !!!!! U2 ROCKKKKKKKKK

  • @abelesa84 yes it is

  • Thank God for these wonderful people, we really needed this, we really did.

  • I watch this every year on this day to remind me how great of a country I live in and how great U2 is. I cry every single time.... this is why U2 in my opinion is the greatest band in the world. Who else can come into a FOREIGN country after a devestating loss that we had and make us all feel together?

  • Comment removed

  • Absolutely awesome !!! Nothing to touch it.

  • @kingkong3601 This was not meant to "feed the post 911 hysteria". It was simply just to remember those who were lost in the worst act of terrorism to ever hit the U.S. To remember the 343 brave firefighters who rushed into those crumbling buildings, not because they wanted a medal or to get their picture in the paper, but becaue that was their job. To protect the citizens of the city. Just like our troops who have been lost. They understood what they signed up for. God Bless them all.

  • AMEN.......U2's Gift to America. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

  • This is the best performance of all time, nveer mind the superbowl.

  • This performance makes me cry everytime i watch it. This performance is a gift from U2 to the American people.

Thank You U2, from this American.

  • awesome GO U2 WOOT

  • Nearly Made me Cry BEST U2 Ever !!!!

THUMB UP EVERYONE FOR THE BEST BAND IN THE UNIVERSE !!!!

  • Comment removed

  • the whole entire halftime show literally gave me chills

  • KissTheRing77 is absolutely right. If this doesn't shake you up, nothing will. U2 belong in a category with the Beatles . . . Bono has done more for the world than John Lennon ever did.

  • it was a very sensitive time in America we were bruised and Bono knew where to put the bandage

  • Perfection. Absolute perfection, right when we needed it.

  • of course the patriots won I mean the rams are a joke

  • Not going to lie... I cried!

  • Best halftime show of all time!! Forget who ever played the superbowl back then it was a boring game anyways but this is amazing!

  • @moose030406 I agree! You are absolutely right!

  • No better band and no better song could have pulled this off!!

  • No better band, and no better song could have been played!! Absolutely perfect during that time!!

  • All the other Superbowl halftime shows will NEVER touch this particular performance.

  • dear god i hate u2

  • @CK2890 why the fuck are ya watching their videos so... jackass!

  • @CK2890 disrespect!

  • @CK2890: Had a chat with Bono the other day, and your name came up. He said to tell you, he still hates you, too.

  • @CK2890

oh dear... god hates you too.

  • Amazing performance and by far the best super bowl halftime show ever. Not that the competition is all that fierce but still, terrific stuff.

  • best halftime ever

  • Awsome !!!!!!!!!!

  • Also I take back everything I've said about Bono.

  • I watched this live, and the moment was almost so big that it escaped me. I remember thinking 'U2 has just gone somewhere else altogether." Watching it again, and again, I think they knew as they played that something special was occurring. They were on a different level that night. "Where the Streets Have No Name was majestic, and triumphant. His hand raised high, a primal yell. "That's power!" Simply remarkable.

  • @hawkman256, Glad you watched it live and I am jealous that I wasn't there! I watch this vid very often and I wish I had been there!!! Words can't describe what I feel about this vid, what it means to be an American and the strength and motivation it gives me every time I watch it!!! U2. Thank you, Thank you so VERY much!!!

  • An absolutely amazing, powerful performance!

  • i didn't cry.

  • @johnthemanrivers <-- Neither did I!! I was proud to be an American!! I was happy and grateful to be Here in America!!! I was inspired, lifted, grateful, joyful, overwhelmed, and AMAZED!!!

  • It is a amazing show!i don`t have seen bevor so a tribute for 9/11!!!U2 god bless you!Greetings from vienna

  • awesome!! thank you million times.

  • I doubt that Jihad Jane was in the audience

  • I can't stand political celebrities or bands but I respect the hell out of U2 and Bono. Instead of doing nothing but talk through the media about the wrongs, Bono goes out and takes action regardless of political or social ties. That's commendable.

  • @auburnfan27

thanks for saying this, i completely agree with you, its easy to jump on the band wagon and mouth off about him, but the guy speaks with actions and words

very few others do in a position of power like his

  • blueflagcfcyt, shut your damn mouth. this was one of the most devistating days in american history. and this was an amazing tribute to the ones who lost their lives. dont say f america! were the only country who could have rose from the rubble like we did. we shoved our foot up the ass of terrorist bastards and sent them back to their shitty ass countries. THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA= BEST COUNTRY ON THE F ING PLANET!! long live AMERICA!

  • When 9/11 happend, I was only 4, so I didnt know what was going on. But today, I get tearly eyed just thinking about it. U2 did a beautiful job on that day. I thank you, U2. All I'm wondering is how I can get this onto my iPod :) I love how they put these two songs together.

  • @blueflagcfcyt Pussy

  • @blueflagcfcyt im not american, but I'll still call you an asshole.

  • @blueflagcfcyt You should go tell the World Court this. They'll probably want you to show them the facts you have, show just put all the YouTube videos you've watched on the conspiracies and put them on a disk...And if you have time after wards, can you tell me where Hoffa was buried?

  • brings a tear to your eye, such an emotional time, such a meaningful tribute

  • ive always liked u2, never been a MASSIVE fan.. but this is just great.. a really nice thing to do for the people.. im a converted man...

  • This has got to be the best opening for this song if ever seen. From the simple notes of the edges guitar style to the feeling in America at that time.Unfortunatly some of the best songs come from pure emotion when things are bad then when everthing is good.

  • That's why The Joshua Tree has the best album opening ever.

  • what the hell is wrong with you

  • Unbelieveable, so emotional!! Who's the idiot tha threw his glowstick at Bono??

  • u n f u c k i n g r e a l , even god himself got emotional!!!!! thank u 2.

  • aii w0ow

i agree, it did make my cry
