  • so nice!!!!

  • ive saw this many times - why are the spoilers extended then they are retracted ?

  • @FifaUltimate01

Its a typical dash thing. They come up during taxi and stow automatically as the power levers are advanced for takeoff. There is a switch in the cockpit to override this feature though. The dash 7 did the same thing.

  • Bom os seus video,......( Rio de janeiro - Brasil )

  • Will be really sad to see these go. Always really enjoy flying on them; and seeing them over Exeter

  • Enjoy listening to ATC as much as the takeoff!

  • very cool vid!

  • I wasn't on airport property, i was outside of the airport, in a field just off the thresh hold of R/W 08

  • where did you stand to withing the airport .. ?

  • does anyone know if the dash 8 creates more of a wake turbulence hazard for following light a/c compared to other medium a/c? I've always been warned about the wake turb of the dash 8 but unsure if it is because it generates stronger turbulence than most or is it because of its high angle of climb? answer much appreciated

  • Nice

  • Nice

  • Why did they put the spoilers up during taxi?

  • I prefer it on the runway side than the back side to view an aircraft actual take off.

  • i wona fly for flybe wen im older but i wona fly a BAe 146 6r that bomareder

  • sorry but flybe got rid of there Bae 146's they have replaced them with embraer 195.

  • Im going away soon on a Flybe flight

  • lol. isnt it Fly British European?

  • it was now it is abbriviated to FlyBE. or Fly maybe as somepeople tend to call it lol

  • flybe??? fly maybe :D

  • CANOT SEE ANYTHING ! DAMN !

  • Rudder too.

  • Why was the dash 8 operating with spoilers extended, just before takeoff? What was the reason for it?

I hope to travel on a dash8 flybe soon, the concern is, the local trains that operate around my area offer a faster route to my family than if I were to travel by air domestic.

Someday I may wish to travel further, 200+ mile and will need flybe to get me there.

  • Reason is to check they are working. Pre-flight Checks. Checking all the control surfaces - Elevators, Ailerons Flaps were already extended so only other surface is the spoilers

  • The Dash has auto spoilers for landing or an aborted take off which operate when there is a low power setting and weight on wheels (i.e. on the ground) When taxing, they are usually disabled so they don't stick up all the time but are armed as the aircraft is cleared to enter the runway. Once armed, the low power setting used for taxi will mean they will both be up until the power is advanced on take off, when they will then retract. Hope that helps :)

  • Like RTO braking, setting takeoff thrust and then retarding the thottles back is an indication that a Rejected Takeoff needs to be achieved, nice feature that would normally require manual operating in such an event.

Does it have an air/ground safety sensors? Which when pressure is taken off the gears this would prevent the spoilers from retracting in flight.

  • Correct, during a RTO as the throttles are brought back towards idle, the spoilers would once again extend, suplimenting the manual breaking. You are correct with the air/ground sensors. Once the aircraft is airbourne, the spoilers cannot extend together and would be flush with the upper wing surface, even at low power settings (the Dash doesn't use them or indeed have airbrakes/speed break) However, they can and do operate individually to help with roll control in conjunction with the ailerons.

  • Just tell your family you get train-sick. You can't pass an opportunity to fly on a Dash 8 or Embraer 195, it just isn't logical.

  • Nice vid were was you standing was it at the end carpark

  • No. I was in a field just below the thresh hold of runway 08

  • Why so late in the departure?

As soon as the hydraulic pressure is restored, usually just after engine start. At this opportunity the control surfaces are usually checked with the before T/O checklist. (Usally just the ailerons and elevator).

It is odd that on the dash 8, checking the position of the speed brake is vital. But on the threshold?

  • was it doing circuits or going somewhere?

  • Off to Glasgow

  • flew islandsflug from exeter once, nearly crashed on landing when we got back, kakked my pants

  • dont they call these puddle jumpers?

  • @SouthwestFreak I believe the term 'Puddle jumpers comes from where they are built, Canada. Canada being a huge country surrounded by water and with numerous numbers of vast lakes, the Dash 8 is an Aircraft used to Commute from one place to another. I belive the Beavers & Twin Otters were also called Puddle Jumpers aswell

  • Excellent Video !

  • yes but in the winter all that operates down newquay is skybus, air southwest, ryan-air and exeter has flybe first choice and all the charters coming in might aswell go all 3 airports.w/b

  • we are going newquay or exeter plus plymouth or we could do all 3 or just 2 up to you w/b

  • great vid mate!! i am going down to newquay soon to go spotting then back up to exeter to do some aswell.5*

  • Who you going exeter with?

  • we are going newquay or exeter plus plymouth or we could do all 3 or just 2 up to you w/b
