I can't say that I agree with much that this woman speaks of but that is precisely what free speech is all about. The fact that she sarcastically makes fun of Ezra Levant's style and substance she can not prove that he has harmed anyone with his speech. Why should the government be in charge of people's emotions they feel regarding the substance of another person's speech? This is chaos. This is anarchy. This is ridiculous. Ezra would shred this woman in a head to head debate.
I think that 'barbed hyperbole' might well be the right approach. So much of the work of the CHRC is fundamentally risisble; I think the antics of its members posting material on fascist websites validates this conclusion. We shouldn't take these people too seriously.
What does "taking equality seriously" mean? That the BCCLA won't defend Chris Kempling from an outrageous attack on his freedom and livelihood because he has the temerity not to foreclose the possibility that he might counsel students that a homosexual life style runs counter to other important values? that sexuality is a choice to ponder carefully?
Is it valuing Islamic proscriptions and group sacrality equally with Western individual sacrality?
"This is important stuff. Western civilisation is under threat internally from idiotic liberals and externally from bigotted Muslims."
In case you didn't listen to her speech, she is saying that we have to cut down on Islamophobia. She says we are loosing our freedoms because we are being so phobic. She doesn't even believe in the Muslim threat!!!
This is a cut and paste from a Canadian newspaper.
Stephen Harper (Conservative Party Leader, current Prime M inister):
"Human Rights Commissions, as they are evolving, are an attack on our fundamental freedoms and the basic existence of a democratic society...It is in fact totalitarianism. I find this is very scary stuff."

It's not that we free-speech advocates "scorn" equality -- it's that equality is a lesser value than liberty.
