Technical playing like petrucci plays overshadows a lead that builds and exudes feeling. Malmsteen, johnson eddie van halen and vai are among others whos playing is similiar. At least vai had the opportunity to team up with frank zappa. Some would throw jeff beck that style of playing seriously though listen to the song 'cause weve ended as lovers' its a monster
