i love these cars! seen your Imp on fiesta turbo site. i used to own a sunbeam stilleto when i first past my test! (loooong time ago! wish i never got rid of it! doh!) was forever blowing the driveshaft couplings lol! but also used to rev to over 8000 rpm after a little engine work. if i were you id deffo hang on to this car as they are hard to get hold of now. all the best mate!
They were great little cars with a great little engine. If they'd put the radiator at the front they'd have avoided a lot of overheating problems. Remember duelling with a frogeye Sprite on the A1. We overtook each other many times. By the time we got to Doncaster we were big buddies ;0). Them wuz the days.
elo elo elo chris, its dom here, andys son, from the imp club, just found this video on here :) knew it had to be you when i saw GeForce Junky's and i rekorgnise the imp, take care dom,
haha great vid, i wanna but my dads imp on the dyno, see if it would actually giv a reading.... BTW whats with the vents on the bonnet? are they for show?

not a bad power figure for an engine designed to pump water from fire trucks...

On performance Imps they sometimes move the radiator to the front to improve cooling.
My father owned a 1968 Imp and commented that it had the smoothest engine he had ever known.

how does this compare to the rated HP from the factory?
joness105639 3 years ago
If i remember right, the saloons were rated at 39bhp new in 1963. What the actual power was is anybody's guess.
I think that the van models had detuned cylinder heads to give 35 bhp.

This is correct.
Rootes wanted to sell the vans to the Post Office, who were worried about postmen driving them too quickly and having accidents.

@potstillbill they had normal heads jsut dished pistons to lower the comp ration
