Abrams are not convoy support they take a convoy just to support it. A10s have a more defining role they are tank killers and sam killers. Sams are dangerous but whats easier to obtain sams or tanks. Also take into account A10s are Sam killers they have more counter measures for sams than a tank has against another tank, infantry, or javelin.

@iggsta3o5 1st the abrams is well known for being a thirsty pig. lets try something equal in firepower but more efficint say the t-90 which has a range of 340–400 miles. this gives the tank plenty of time to get in get out and refuel and restock. a aircraft needs high grade highly flammable jet fuel which can only be used to power jets. you also need a runway. and when you are deep into contested ground you cant always throw down a runway.the t-90 also has anti air countermeasures as well
King Tiger vs M-60? Problem is not range but penetration.
88mm HVAP round fired from KwK43 could penetrate ~150mm armor at 2km (190mm at 1km), with 50% hit chance at tank sized target. That's unsufficient to defeat turret armor (~350mm), but may penetrate front hull (110-195mm).
With 60's ammunition and fire controls 105mm L7 gun was just as accurate. But it offered ~225mm penetration at 2km.
So for M60 any hit=penetration, while Tiger's would need luck to destroy M60 in frontal combat.
This "best tank in the world statement" is made by morons. All of the tanks of the modern world have strengths and weaknesses. Its unlikely that any of the maggots in this forum have any real experience to offer us. Just a bunch of stupid children.

@ArmoredSaint848 Agreed, the only shooting the Leopard 2 has ever done was on a range. I've been inside an Abrams while being shot with RPG's and rockets. That beast can take a beating. We also ran over an IED in an Abrams before. Blew off all the tracks and all the sideskirts on the left side, but the turret still traversed and the main gun still worked. We just sat there and pulled security until Recovery could get to us. IMO, the Challenger 2 is the best in the world followed by the older M1.
The T-64 is the only tank at it's time that Russian never sold to another country. That says alot about it right there. I've operated an M60 and while never operated or seen the inside of a T-64 everything I've read would make me not want to go against a T-64 with an M60. M60 may have had okay armor for it's day but no where near today's standard. Crew surviabiltiy is also horrible. The main gun ammo is expoded to the crew.
The T-72's have poor armor and the auto load does not allow you to fire effectively on the move. The M1's and the Leo's have far better accurancy at 2000m as well. The newer M1's actually have pin point accurancy out to 4000m due to the upgraded fire control system. Don't now much about the T-90 but heard it's a pretty good tank. It's still 80's electronic's except for the upgraded models.
The M1 Abrams tank was not used till the late 80's. In fact M60 A3's were used alot in the 1991 gulf war. There have been several up grade in the 90's M1A1 M1A2 and the M1A2 SEP. Majority of the M1's have remained the same. Upgrades have included computer systems and fire control systems that have went on through out the 90's. The Leopard 2 and the M1A1 and A2 share the exact same main gun the 120mm smooth bore. Both are great tank. The T-72's are crap.
The Leopard 2 was first introduced in 1979. 42 years old.
The Abrams was first introduced in 1980. 41 years old.
The T-90 was first introduced in 1995. 16 years old.
Of course there have been upgrades. The most modern Leopard in service is the Leopard 2A6 (2007). The most modern Abrams in service is the M1A2 SEP (2004) and the T-90 used in service is still the same one as used in 1995.

Weighing down a tank with ERA isn't going to save it from a double tandem round shot.

T64/72/80 variants were far superior, the M60A1 'd have kicked T55/62 thanks to its better fire control, but not the others. And M60 armor have never been suficient, to stop even a T55 round. M60a3 is a nice tank, but to weakly armoured for tank battles, beautiful tank thought ;)

Gulf War-1, Marine tankers all had this tank, the Marine reservists were the only ones to have the Army surplus of Abrams, this monster looked like a real tank and it kicked lots of raghead ass.

Israel is the biggest user of the M60, they have a version called Magach 7, which is so upgraded it is probably good enough to take out a modern tank.
Pretty much everyone who has crewed both the M-60A3 and the M1 knows that the Passive sight on the M-60 was a lot better than the thermal sight in the first M1s. The next generation Thermals in the M1A1 helped close that gap.
The M60a3 has been top dog in South America up until very recently. Offensively it is still a good tank and has good night fighting ability, its thermals are even better than most M1s.
When the US Army took all of the M-60's out of service they were made available to pretty much any country that wanted them. I do believe Brazil has a sizeable number of M60's, as does Turkey, Israel, and some other countries.

Gulf War-1, Marine tankers all had this tank, the Marine reservists were the only ones to have the Army surplus of Abrams, this monster looked like a real tank and it kicked lots of raghead ass.

I believe that tank's worthiness can just about only be truly figured out (damn a lot of small words...pardon my english :P) in real warfare.
Of course the argument about which is best is kinda fun (unless somebody decides to be really immature, we're all immature deep inside ;)) but still.
For example, just before WW2 I gather that the tank that was considered to be amongst the best was a French tank. But the way the Germans used their tanks the French tank got beaten.
The M60's cool btw. :)

@hamoan66boi It still has probably the best firing system, and not many armor systems can survive a hit from a Sabot round fired from it. The M1a2 Abrams is a beast.

@rcl567 Leopard 2 is unproven in Battle, where as the Challenger 2 is battle proven and sustained 47 RPG hits (RPG 7,RPG 29 and a MILAN), the result: Driver lost a couple of toes (which took him out of action for a few weeks but then he was back on the front line not long after) and the tank was back in action the next day! Challenger 2 is the best tank in the world.And a proven one at that!

@Saxonsoldiers: Don't hear at such kid's who haven't other things to do, than type "Leopard 2 is the best" in every Video. The M1 Abrams & Challenger 2 are very well Tanks, which are proven. Leo 2 isn't. Also it lost against the T-90 in India, so it can't be "THE BEST"

for what i have read you dont know anithing about leopard 2a6 first its not a fake armor its a good one and it could be small but is realy fast and you can change the motor in 15 min in battle condicions i read the abrams guives the 60kh leo guives 70kh the only thing he cant resist its the missil wich t90 carry just that and my friend the tank its not cheap just for that we only buy 1000 tanks

Israel is the biggest user of the M60, they have a version called Magach 7, which is so upgraded it is probably good enough to take out a modern tank.

Pretty much everyone who has crewed both the M-60A3 and the M1 knows that the Passive sight on the M-60 was a lot better than the thermal sight in the first M1s. The next generation Thermals in the M1A1 helped close that gap.

I believe the upgraded M1IP (improved armor over original M1) had the same thermal imagine system as the M1A1.

The M60a3 has been top dog in South America up until very recently. Offensively it is still a good tank and has good night fighting ability, its thermals are even better than most M1s.

They were used by the U.S. in limited numbers through the early 90s'. There are still some counties that use them though.

When the US Army took all of the M-60's out of service they were made available to pretty much any country that wanted them. I do believe Brazil has a sizeable number of M60's, as does Turkey, Israel, and some other countries.
