hey did u use after effects and how long did that take you?

yes, Adobe After Effects. it took... mabye.. 6 hours total? 6 hours of just special effects editing.

Try using advanced lightning. Change it to a strike, and set the glow opacity to 0. When you finished animating the points, animate the conductivity state. You can precompose the layer, and give it the neccesary glows by using adjustment layers, or duplicating the lightning, and give the proggressing layers a blur.
