  • there can be so many other skaters performing this kind of music with really difficult technical elements, fast skaters that hit every single move with pinpoint accuracy, but again; to see how she relates to her music and becomes one with it in the middle of the program, that I don't think I will ever see again.

  • this...is incredibly amazing.

  • am i going mad, or is the music a bit weird and patchy?

  • This rendition of Tchaikovsky's music, apart from Baiul's choreographic dexterity, is superb!

  • Uplifting!

  • i cant even skate without a walker x-x

  • She's a great skater but as for her conveyance of the emotions she is horrible. Smiling and flapping you arms around like a bimbo does nothing to represent Odette. This doesn't even compare to Marianela or Semionova or Guillem.

  • @minitay12: IDIOT! Baul is NOT a trained ballet dancer being directed by a ballet artistic director.... she's a skater that HAS CHOSEN Swan Lake to perform to.....

    IDIOTS on the internet.....

  • WOW AMAZING!

  • elle a louper aucun de c'est saut wouaww bravo

  • oh dear lord...she is magnificent...

  • Tchaikovsky music make you perform like that.

  • @Salameh84

Tchaikovsky was the god of Romantic era music.

  • All very beautiful

  • best figure skating chereography ever

  • anybody know what her song is called??

  • Whoever doesn't like this masterpiece is nuts in the head. This is one of the greatest pieces of music ever composed.

  • @jimmm7339ki3456 I agree 100-percent. It is a brilliant composition, and the story of Swan Lake is as beautiful as it is almost haunted. And sadly, there are a lot of people who don't understand why Swan Lake was used as the introduction music to the original Dracula (?1931) movie.

Simply brilliant music by one of the best Russian composers, skated wonderfully by a Ukrainian skater

  • Comment removed

  • @jimmm7339ki3456 Swan Lake is my all time favorites and Tchaikovsky is indeed the best Russian composer. Second would be Prokofiev and his Romeo and Juliet Montegues and Capulets. In my opinion both pieces convey the danger/and beauty of the scenes. I agee with you on the composers. I know some dismiss French impressionists but I love Faure--especially In Paradisum

  • @jimmm7339ki3456 oh, and how could I forget Ludwig Minkus and Don Quixote, Kitri Variation.

  • @jimmm7339ki3456

Thcaikovsky's probably my favorite composer ever----Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker Suite! Are there any more beautiful or inspiring pieces of music? I think not! ^__^ And Oksana skated beautifully to his work!

  • Grandioso, llena los sentidos y agita el corazón.

  • que lindo!

  • she did like 8,000 crossovers

  • 0:47 that triple was truly amazing

  • How can anyone not like this???

  • I appreciate and enjoy skating but here the grinning, arm-flapping, ridiculous 'tip'toeing' and waste of classical ballet music which was written specifically for elegant ballet dancers (who can use the intricate rythms, express emotions tell a story and so) is a travsety. Skating 10 points, Artistic interpretaton zero.

  • @MrKLT1945 There's a Swan Lake on Ice production at the moment, such beautiful music shouldn't be kept to one genre if possible.

  • @Cordine09 Have to disagree with you. PT wrote for ballet (has a vast dance vocabulary, mime, charcacter & national as well as classical) in the full knowledge & expecatation his music with its emotional content, complex rhythms & so on would not be 'wasted' - which it always is when non-ballet dancers extract bits of it. But the worst offender is the Chines Circus - brilliant contortionists and acrobats but criminally wasted and chopped-up SW music. Does no-one write music JUST for skaters?

  • Wow! This is so beautiful how she do that I will give her the 10 highest points!

  • thank you so much, i saw this when i was 15 now im 16 and it inspired me so much i am able to be in compititions to the point where im the youngest in them<3 you are truely inspiring.

  • Skater women are easily some of the most beautiful of any generation.

  • She glided exquisitely across the ice like a regal swan.

  • beautifull

  • She's a good skater, but as for the grace and emotion that a ballerina has in this variation, Oksana needs work.

  • wow

  • i almost cried at the end :'(( sooo beautiful <3

  • Beautiful music , wonderful skater......simply the best

  • nobody ever, BEFORE and AFTER, skated more beautiful than this Creature !!!"

  • @mvy2k I agree 100%. She is magical on the ice...sensual, musical and just breathtaking to watch. You can't take your eyes off of her! I'm shocked that a lot of her You Tube performances have so few views. Has she been forgotten already? As Scott Hamilton said once during her performance, "She never even has to leave the ice." in reference to the fact that her movement alone was enough.

  • @lavergne100 Thanx for your comment.

Such a performer in any area is a God's gift and we are lucky watching Oksana!!!

By the way she and I from the same beautiful Odessa port-city in Ukraine.

The heart of the city desighned by italian and french architects.

The city has one of the world's best opera building, famous Potjomkin steps (192 steps) etc. It worth to find city images on internet!

  • @mvy2k I agree again. My favorite performances of hers include swan lake, the Sade song from 1994 Ice Wars, a spanish number where she wore a black dress and big red flower, another spanish number to a Madonna song (orangy/red dress with polka dots) and the kind of middle eastern type song where she held that little light. Her music choices were always great. She was IMO the best female figure skater of all time.

  • very beutifoul!!!!

  • Stunning :D

  • She's absoluetly stunning! :D

  • I'm surprised of how entranced I was while watching that. That was beautiful, and as the dance progressed, got so much more intense.

  • beautifull she is a gr8 sk8ter

  • I'd tap...

  • um... Odette seems to be very happy of becoming a swan....

  • @sharon3902 lol apparently she doesn't really know how to act to be like odette. she has great skills though for a skater.

  • Crap attempt at pretending to be swan-like. Big thighs, big bum sticking - not elegant. Looks like a turtle at the end.Wrong body type for ballet. Skaters don't use a lot of the muscles dancers do - boots make it impossible. Only elegant skater ever was the late John Curry.

  • @MrKLT1945 please.... read your comment again and go jump off a cliff. To be a sucessful skater you MUST PRACTICE BALLET for ages. At least Russians do it this way that is why they have the best ballet school and skaters in the world. Morons like you who do not appriciate the talent like this are just sore losers and full of complexes. Go get therapy.

  • @Ouija121085 Nice to know really intelligent ppl capable of adult debate still exist. Must apologise for having own opinions which if different to yours mean I'm a loser. So logic says YOU must be a great winner! Meaningless cliches from you. With your reliance on therapy I think you must be writing from years of experience of it. Just keep taking the tablets dear.P.s. I love what skaters do that CAN'T be done elsewhere.

  • @MrKLT1945 hey, i usually really like ur comments and toootally agree with them (especially about the whole NP shit) but i think that was kind of harsh ... she's not trying to do ballet, she's doing her on-ice-interpretation of the white swan (for her mother who loved that ballet from what i heard) . i agree it will NEVER be as great as the ballet which is the most amazing and concrete interpretation of that music but i still dont think u should diss on her ... and she's not fat by the way ...

  • @FyreBalletDancer

the swan lake dance in ballet or on-ice interpretation is quite hard. I agree with you.

  • She should've gone to Vaganova or the Bolshoi academies and become a ballet dancer where her talents would've been better appreciated.

  • love song!

  • i absolutely LOVE her!!!

  • She's Beautful *_____*

  • Hey commentators, stfu.

  • @ilovpointeshoes97 are you BLIND?

  • did she win? it was soo beautiful...

  • @quidwitch Besides don't you think that dancing on your toes is REALLY hard? :)

  • @quidwitch Ballet isn't easy... if you think the oposite then you haven't really tried it yet!!

I'm a dancer and I've tried ice-skating... It's not that hard, if you keep working it!!

  • she's awesome..)

  • Comment removed

  • Amazing !

  • Superb technique, marvelous feeling

  • She didnt grow the black feathers and wings like Natalie Portman though

  • PERFECT!

  • PERFETC!

  • I teared up. That was incredibly beautiful.

  • I think it's lovely how she's combined ice skating with ballet. I'd like to see some ballerina's try some ice skating moves on stage - let alone ballet at such speed! Although I really can't say much - both are incredibly difficult.

  • @quidwitch I think Katherine Healey handled the switch from ballet to skating very well. She didn't have the speed of Oksana, but she did have a more beautiful body line imho.

  • @iluvpointeshoes97 I want to see you doing this on ice...and then we talk about wheter this is awful or not

  • @iluvpointeshoes97 what???? did you watch the same vidoe as everyone else?

  • she glides just like a swan :)

  • omg I do ballet and I would love to ice skate!!

  • I almost cried.

  • perhaps the most beautifil piece of music ever written

  • wow...the most amazing performance on ice i've ever seen

  • @andromeda110591 yu na kim is WAY better

  • @melissalina123 While I do respect your opinion...I would like you to check out "Oksana Baiul-The Swan- Olympics Exhibition Gala 1994" posted by erdeepspace and let me know what you think...the video on this page doesn't do justice to this routine...but on the post I mentioned,I think you will see the real Oksana Baiul.

  • That was beautiful

  • The best

  • Does someone know ?

When did she play it ?

  • What a waste of time skating is. They could at least devote their time to something that's productive or impressive.

  • @Harmonyww You have got to be the most ignorant person on the earth.

  • @JesLynMon Why do you say that?

  • @Harmonyww yeah, like ice hockey! lol

  • @Harmonyww WOOW how about you devote your time to doing something more productive or impressive than watching a legend of a skater on youtube i see it is OBVIOUSLY a waste of time to you.

  • @DIDICOYFUL Well done. You can read. Did your comment actually have a point? Or were you just repeating what I said?

  • hate the bourees

  • After watching this so many times as ballet, she seems a little ungraceful...still, just amazing talent.

  • Chazz Michael Michael Girl : )

  • I loved her bourrées in the beginning :) I'm glad she knows how to do swan arms

  • Wish the commentator would have shut up at the beginning of the video. Especially not called the composer "Cheekovsky"

  • She's an excellent skater, but she doesn't seem graceful enough...

  • i talked to her on the phone once! lol it was, pretty cool

  • NO NO NO!!!!! Saint-saens DID NOT COMPOSE ANY MUSIC IN SWAN LAKE!!!!!!!!!!! that is 'The Swan' from Carnival of the Animals!!!!!!!!! NOT SWAN LAKE!!! dude, get your facts straight before you start anouncing stuff.

  • At 1.18, Oksana's is effortless, magical in her interpretation, a symbiosis with the music......so emotional, brings tears to one's eyes....

  • mooi gedaan,schitterend

  • shes so faaat!!!

    iuuuu!!

  • @loReeBaLletera ....

    are you're serious?

  • @loReeBaLletera You're kidding right?

  • @loReeBaLletera chuuuuuut

  • OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!

  • I want to skate to this... I have always wanted to skate to this. This just makes me want to more. When I listen to this music I feel like the music isn't about the happiness one feels whil in love, its about those moments that make love love. Its the sadness and the happiness and the struggle... and I wonder, will I ever get that?

  • Has anyone seen the movie about her life?

It is just so incredible and she is so beautiful!

My mom love's iceskating and I used to dance ballet..

I feel like I'm going to cry when I watch this, childhood memories..

I really regret I stopped dancing or didn't start with iceskating!!!!

  • Beautiful.

  • It`s amazing ! ; o

  • I like this definitely more than ballet .. Beautiful!!

  • She's amazing, but it didnt flow for me ... it feels so much right in Ballet and it was akward for me .... shes great tho ...

  • ...mY Fav music, to an increbidle performance! =D

  • Watching this along with the music has given me goosebumps: amazing!!!

  • thats amazing .. its already hard to balance on ice and she was perfect :O i can only admire .. cause i'm speachless :)

  • that was enchanting :D

  • wish theycould lose the commentaters

  • made me smile :) beautiful

  • wonderful...she is amazing....i love her.

  • Look at that flexibility..imagine what she could do in bed :D

  • wow! she can do her backwards crossovers likes its nothing. It took me FOREVER to learn them! and so did the 3-turn. she does her 3-turns perfectly! Can't wait to be just like her! :)

  • It is a butiful daNCE AND I LIKE THEMUSIC

  • not of this is that difficult to do.

  • "I love Oksana. She is so beautiful and her skating (when good) breathless." Just wish we could watch her more today.

  • whats colder than dry ice? ill tell you what is...oksana

    love that film

  • She seems a little...stiff>.>

  • good dance and jump!!!

  • good dance

  • I would like to do her wearing the ice skates

  • wonderful!!! *-*

  • I think the choreography is F*** AWESOME, and so is the skater, she's great here. Yet I have to say Swan Lake does not match this choreography (and I personally think Swan Lake doesnt go for ice skating at all) ...however she did a great job!

  • Beautiful music, and such a beautiful ice skating performance. Oksana is the loviest of skaters, or at least she was when she was younger. Too bad she started doing "modern" skate instead of the traditional , such as this performance.

It's no wonder she has a gold medal. All figure skaters should aspire to Oksana's level.

  • Simply remarkable! Perhaps the greatest, from an artistic, emotional, and aesthetic perspective, single ice skating performance of all time! Her obvious pleasure in her own physical vitality and movements only heightens, by contrast, the sadness she conveys through her choreography, which highlights the tragic nature of the beautiful music.

  • simply remarkable -- perhaps the greatest artistic / aesthetic ice skating performance ever, and especially so because of the clear contrast between her vitality and pleasure in her movement, and the sadness she and the music convey.

  • Ukraine is the best!!!!!!!!!!!

  • талантище!!!!

    неповторимая пластика!!!

позитивность!!! улыбка!!! Да, оксана баюл запомниться надолго, но как жаль, что так недолго она была в любительском спорте, а профи мы не всегда видим,увы!!!

  • I ♥ that jump at 0:57 !

  • I like her coreography but..that song has some intense parts that she ignored. I think she should had put more axes although it she is very delicate.

  • Es fabulosa!

  • okay, she mite have been smiling~ But her ice-skating looks sad(like wanting something) cuz im do ballet and ice-stake and I know the difference

  • @47Candyfloss

where is problem? go and take olympic gold medal.

  • When she skates it really looks like shes a swan

  • One of the most amazing visions on ice! She is so forever!

  • oksana baiul died on the day of my birth, a star is taken yet a star is born. here i come world! hahahahaah joax.

  • het is zo mooi

  • wow,she's beautiful

  • THe one on ice is harder than ballet, right?

  • This is amazing!!! So beautiful! I prefer ballet though

  • ice skating is ballet of the ice... beautiful!

  • とてもすばらしい!まるで白鳥が舞い降りたかのよう!エクセレント!

  • The commentator made an error in fact here. She didn't skate to Swan Lake by Saint-Saens. Camille Saint-Saens wrote "The Swan" from his Carnival of the Animals sketches. Swan Lake was a ballet composed by Tchaikovsky. Very different pieces. One is an entire ballet, the other is just a 3 minute sketch.

  • and Pavlova made a short solo ballet entitled "the dying swan" on the music of Saint-Saëns, which all the great ballerinas have done, and this routine is strongly based on Pavlova's choreography.

  • Saint Seans piece was the dying Swan not Swan Lake. Two very different pieces. As for her skating it is very moving.

  • Oh she's so beautiful, and she looks so much healthier here. I'm so happy to see her skate so well!

  • Laughingtiger17 said it all. The ballet far surpasses this. Funny how she imitated bourrees at the beginning. HA! I know the work that goes into both, as a current ballet dancer and a former ice skater. I prefer ballet.

  • Obviously, you've never bourree'd on ice, let alone done anything of at least World Championship standard. Doing ballet steps like a bourree on ice is harder than on pointe. For your info, Oksana skated her short program to Swan Lake in memory of her dead mother because she loved the ballet so much. Her mum wanted Oksana to become a ballerina but she couldn't cause she was too chubby as a child and then, Oksana promised her mum she would skate to Swan Lake.

And she did and she won.

  • Well, i have bouree'd on ice, or something like it, and yeah, its really hard. I'm sorry and i realize i was being an uneducated, biased jerk and i didn't mean to offend you. that story is beautiful. And i find it sick that she couldn't do ballet because she was "chubby". Quality of anything you do shouldn't matter on weight, that's just wrong.

  • and those deleted comments were attempts to reply on my ipod touch, not an angry tirade that i deleted! ahaha sorry

  • @KissOfCyanide bourres on ice arnt that hard .... :S

  • @KissOfCyanide Sorry but you don't understand how hard it is to pull up in bourees and ballet things that cannot be repeated by any other than a trained dancer

  • @KissOfCyanide i wouldnt say its harder than en pointe because youve got the pick to stand on.... where as en pointe is just balance on the block.... but i can see its still wayyyyyy hard... shes amazing! i love swan lake and this routine!

  • @JohnneyCoolguy ballet does not far surpass ice skating, being a professional ice skater involves 10 times the risks then ballet because a a trip or fall while performing one of those dangerous tricks can easily give you a head concussion. it takes a lot more courage to get on ice than into a pair of point shoes.

  • what film does this music feature in, i know it is a russian spy film or german war film, where there is a traitor

  • @Jameztrio1 it is from Ana Karenina from Tolstoy, with Vivian Leigh, when se goes to the ballet performance and she watch with binoculars her lover.

  • наши люди 6.0

  • that is just beautiful. no words can describe it.

  • WoW She is GooD!

  • the most graceful and elegant skater ever lived!!!1
