Incidentally, the community didnt dip into there pockets to save the club from closure! As a member myself I have not felt that it was ran as a community / members club. It was ran like a dictatorship and ran almost into the ground. You cant keep everyone happy, however as a middle aged GAY man I welcome the things that have happened so far, Mr Barton just needs to keep listening to peope, with power comes responsibility. Garry Baker abused his power and still no apology?
I think it sends an excellent message, about embracing the wider community and I am pleased that someone has the courage to say they want the club to be more GAY. Ive used the Gale for over 20 years and strobly agree with the toilets NOT being unisex. Already the club is gleaming, its more busier and the plans announced are VERY positive for the Club and Birmingham. The extra shows with fire eaters, dancers and a much lower door charge are all good. Personal remarks are un kind and not helpful.
Erm... 'Gay area'? And who decides who is gay and who isn't? Are the bouncers meant to discriminate people by the clothes that they're wearing? Horrible idea. The gale was horrible last night. Young boys in shiny shiny pants dancing on the podiums looking VERY tacky, raised drinks prices, removal of the same sex toilets (Unlucky, trans community, apparently you're not in Barton's plans).
I'm worried about the future of our club, its going from a community-owned venue to a tacky glittery mess. .
I look forward to this new chapter in the Nightingales history. But Mr Barton, a gay club does not need ‘gay areas’ within the club! We want integration not segregation especially in one of ‘our’ clubs. Bad idea.
Excellent is all I have to say. Nice to see some community spirit back to Birmingham and the Community. Lawrence seems to know what he is doing and how to do it with good effects without alienating the community.
What's the point of a gay area in a gay club, surely everywhere is the gay area by default?
