In the 40's a group of scientist and engineers proposed a huge man made water river system in the United States. This would have been used to transport raw materials, water, and people to any destination with virtually no energy cost required. It's sad that congress and the president rejected the proposal. I wonder if we can still accomplish this today in the United States.

Whilst Gaddafi should be roundly praised for progressing the nation in terms of things like infrastructure, health, education for example, he has also committed terrible crimes against fellow Libyans. There is no freedom of speech and no free media. There comes a point in every nation's history when the people say enough is enough. 42 years for any leader is crazy, and since his sons and their sons would likely also rule, Libyans could look forward to 100 more years of the Gaddafis in power.
