Don't hate on Chavez he beat what was out their the average, good, and the great. He beat Juan LaPorte, Edwin Rosario, Hector Camacho, Greg Haugen, Meldrick Taylor whether it was controversial he got the better of Taylor and finished him career wise. He beat Roger Mayweather, Ruben Castillo, Mario "Azabache Martinez, Rafael "Bazooka Limon", Franky Randall, etc etc. All these guys were once world champions in their career. Yes Chavez fought a bunch of bums but he fought EVERYONE!!!
@BoKnows1978 I'm not getting into another Chavez debate, as good as he was, he is an overrated fighter. He had a good chin and could mix it up - that's about it. Don't be fooled by his record, 90 wins before defeat doesn't mean shit if those 90 guys are unranked Mexican and Central American journeymen with double digit losses.
@chineo Using numbers and record again? Fuck record. It's opposition and how they perform against good opposition as to how you should rank them. Who exactly were those 27 title defenses against? Nobodies is my guess. Because in all fairness, prime or not, he got schooled by Whitaker, schooled by Taylor, schooled by De La Hoya and schooled by Tszyu.
@MrBumboclart Nobodys?? wow.. is like saying 5 years from now... when nobody will remember right away .. chicanito hernandez.. angel manfredo..judah.. corrales.. castillo.. hatton and some other 2 guys ... when you look back at the mayweather's fights ... who do u thinkg you are going to remember ?? de la hoya .. mosley .and if he fights pacquiao..pacman and Thats it!... what happened to the other 38 fights??? are you going to say NOBODYS?? an overated fighter?? pfff
@MrBumboclart Your guess? How can you base your opinion of Chavez on 4 fights? He fought Tszyu at the age of 38, way past his prime. I suggest you read up on the man and watch more of his fights before you make dubious claims.
They could only find one clip of Chavez looking good defensively because he was EASY to hit. Meldrick Taylore, Frankie Randall, Oscar De La Hoya and Pernell Whitaker had no trouble hitting him.
@philw82 Taylor was ko (check cintura de goma clip), when Franki randall figth him, JC was done and tired, but still kicking his ass, with Oscar was the same thing: Chavez was old and tired, he just look for money; Oscar never was a great boxer, was good but pussy., Pernnel whitaker just run like crazy for escape ..jajajaja.
\
UR wrong baby, thats why taylor, randall and oscar, they are no body and the boxing records. Pernell whitaker was a good champion but he just run like crazy...jeje
@philw82 Do you realize you just showed the entire world your relative lack of knowledge concerning the sweet science with a statement like that? Taylor? Do yourself a favor and watch that fight in slow motion if you must and see how many of those punches you thought had landed on Chavez actually landed. There's a reason why JC looked like he hadnt been in a fight and Taylor was mistaken for a car crash victim.
@philw82 Delahoya,Randall,Whitaker?? Lol. That's like trying to convince someone that Muhammad Ali was easy to hit because Larry Holmes, Leon Spinks, and Ron Lyle had no problem hitting him. Dude, wake up. Are you just a hater or something or are you really that unfamiliar with JC Chavez? Watch "Julio Cesar Chavez,Boxing's Top Gun" video by HBO here on youtube and learn alittle bit about the sweet science before you make silly statements about one of the great defensive fighters in history.
@philw82 Actually Whitaker had a very hard time hitting Chavez. He just managed to hit Chavez more than Chavez hit him. But Chavez was a great defensive fighter. That's why he didn't take a lot of punishment in his prime years.
This is for all the Mayweather people who think you have to run around on a bicycle and hold to avoid getting hit. This is the art of boxing, hitting and using your head and waist movement to avoid punches not running around , dancing and trying to break Carl Lewis's record in the ring.....
Also you can see the part where this scene happens at around 4mins into this fight: /watch?v=jLAVyjSjCNU&NR=1 just put that at the end of the youtube(DOT)com in the address bar. It happens so damn fast when you watch the real video :)
Man this video paired with this song have so much emotion going on. I watch it at least once a month and It makes me sad/depressed knowing that boxing will never be as good as it was when Chavez was fighting.
What I love about this is that Parisi used a combo that was a jab to the stomach, right cross, and left hook and threw them all perfectly and within his body frame. This is textbook punching. It was perfect and nothing wild or out of control and Chavez STILL made him miss with everything and look like a fool. Chavez ALWAYS had such unbelievable defense when needed. His defense is always what drew me to him as a fan. It was his defense in the 1980's that made him invincible. Very overlooked.
Man u can just be a "Brawler" and become a great fighter! Chavez was a completed fighter but chose to entertain the fans never like to be a boring fighter, Chavez vs Chapo Rosario show how he can use defense and counter punch and at the same time be a great fight.
The Best Chavez. none of that gay shit like mayweather.

Chavez had al least 3 better skills than his defense...
1.- his excellent left hook to the body
2.- his iron chin
3.- his relentlesness!!..
that's why he was unbeatable back in the late 80's and early 90´s
