First, to think that africans are simply passive actors bereft of agency in conflicts between colonist countries in africa is wrong and almost racist. It takes agency from Africans. Second, North Africa used to kidnap and enslave Europeans and Americans not engaged int he slave trade under the name of Islam (First Barbary War), we owe lots to africa but not everything.

I think the US brings a lot of it on itself fro two reasons. Obviously you have the world bank and all, keeping Africa broke by unscrupulous lending to corrupt military regimes and ludicrously unrealistic interest rates. Secondly , and perhaps more obviously America takes enormous pride in billing itself as some sort of leader of the free world so no surprise they are the first ones people complain to when there is a problem. In the end bitching isn't going to solve anything.

Think is there are large financial interests in keeping Africa on the poverty line- cheap minerals, cheal labour, arms sales, oil etc. If they had no money it'd be fine, but they are so poor because they are being exploited.
We finance the regimes to keep it that way.

I'm not trying to excuse anything it's simply becide the point.
Africa is a mess because of the subsequent power vacum and the ruthless regimes it encouraged. Since businesses especially western banks have been happy to trade with anyone in power since then, regardless of the obvious motive of these leaders, Africa has been left with impossible debt.
What you have now is economic slavery.
