  • hi milverton, love watching your video's but was that the gas meter i heard there at about 4.20? must be windy down the south coast! keep 'ere' lit.

  • @gypsywolf6 I had a listen mate do you know I'm not sure what that was.. Many thanks for the kind remarks they are very much appreciated. All the best, Tim

  • What is the name of that song? More importantly, what record is it on? I have to get it!

  • have you tried ashtons consummate gentleman? im smoking nightcap right now and i find it similar to that blend except night cap is a bit smoother

  • @BigJavs No mate.. but i really like the Artisans blend

  • God it's hard work watching these videos.

  • @blueqeloxxx up yours..

  • Whoa Milverton..you completely misunderstood my remarks. It's hard work because the sound is out of cinque with the video. I wasn't being offensive I assure you.

  • It had been a long day... i've fixed the problem now.. cheers, Tim

  • @blueqeloxxx Oh and course i apologise for being so sharpe.. bad days what can i say

  • goodbye pork pie hat. good choice

  • A few days ago, I received my 1975 Dunhill Hungarian (Oom Paul) and I'm happy to say it igives me a smooth, cool "smoke" with my English blend (simular to Night Cap). I'm happy to say its physical dimensions offer a light and symmetrically-pleasing pipe. No buyer's remorse, here!

Also, today I took delivery of Ah Um and I love it...

  • I went to Amazon, com and played the 'Ah Um' sampler and couldn't find the song you're playing. Do you know the name of the song in question?

    Cheers!

  • ***

  • What is the name of the Charles Mingus album?

    Thanks!

  • 'AH UM' let me know what you think..

  • I meant to say: I like this version--who's the artist(s)?

  • Charles Mingus..

  • Nice music--I believe it's called In a Silent Way." I like this version--who the

artist(s)? And lastly, I just ordered a 1975 Dunhill (estate) Hungarian. I'll give you an update when I give it a "test drive."

  • Hi Tim! That's a nice Oom Paul you've got there. Sadly, I had to sell the only Oom Paul I owned, but I would love to get another one someday. They're perhaps the most comfortable shape to hold in the mouth. But some complain about the smoke puffing up their noses! LOL And thanks for the helpful comments on Dunhill Nightcap. As you said, many folks talk about it, but I've never tried it.

    Best regards,

    --David

  • Great review, Tim! Thanks!

I've sadly never tried the Nightcap, but I'm a big fan of both EMP and MM 965. I always keep some of the latter around, that's for sure!

    All the best from Denmark.

  • Thank you Conrad my friend

  • Nice vid, I like the sweetness and nicotine strength of Night Cap. It is a good english, I think it's only a matter of time before it is remade under license.

  • Thanks mate. Little package coming your way wednesday.

  • That Oom Paul of yours Tim is beautiful and I would love to see the smaller brother of it. Maybe a comparison. I would love to get myself an Oom Paul but not a real big bowl one. I tried Nightcap once and enjoed it.

    Regards

  • LOL :) i'll go with Hungarian...(although i had no idea until you informed us!) I love that upshall..what a beauty!! And alas I can't get dunhill any longer...So i am twice as jealous!! :) great vid ..cheers

  • Thanks mate. I think I favour 'Hungarian'. I do think it's a little rich of dunhill.. They seem more interested in making over priced underwear these days. Cheers Tim

  • That is the state of the world these days unfortunately

  • Hello Tim!

Well, Nightcap is really a legend. I don´t know if the its mixture is different on the continent. Anywhere, the Oom Paul is one of my favourite shapes. Very comfortable to hold through your teeth! It´s very nice to see you smoking it and I think my next pipe will be one of these shape!

    Cheers my friend!

    Dave

  • Hello Dave,

If you can get a tin try Ashton's Artisan blend.. Very much like the old Nightcap. Hope all goes well for you my friend.

    Cheers, Tim

  • Hello Tim,

I think I tried all Dunhill's tobacco's, but I'm ashamed to say I've never tried their Nightcap. Hope i'ts not too late.

And is that Charles Mingus I hear in the background? Great taste you have!

    All the best,

    Tom

  • Hello Tom,

Your right about the Mingus. I have some wonderful stuff on record but don't have my decks set up at the moment. A great artist. Try some Ashton's Artisan blend a good substitute for the Nightcap.

    Cheers, Tim

  • Thanks for the tip Tim, I'll certainly give it a try.

  • great review!!! unfortunately i couldnt get ahold of any night cap before they went out of business ...

  • Thanks mate. They still make really expensive pipes though - I won't be buying one though.. Cheers, Tim

  • Ay-up ar kid. How's the Revor situation in Southampton? We're still well stocked in Aberdeenshire!

  • I may have to move to Aberdeenshire!!!

  • Hallo Tim

Good to see you. Hope you're doing well. The oom paul shape fits, Watson :)

    Beste Grüsse

    Sven

  • Hallo Sven,

Mate my health has been a bit up and down recently. Hence not perhaps as jolly as usual. But the spring is on its way and I like nothing more than getting outdoors with the dog and pipe. How are things with you mate?- good I hope.

    Cheers, Tim

  • hello mate,,such a remarkable morning to be started by seeing u again,,nice music,,,its a shame dunhill wont be there any more it is still my fav. "night cap" however 4noggins keep on having bulk tobacco from them which i wonder from where they get it although its over rated in the price,,but even if so i think they should sell or pass the recipe for sm other blenders after all,,well i pray they do

    cheers

    ahmad

  • Hello mate,

I been buying the odd tin of Ashton's Artisan blend which is similar to Nightcap. Erinmore make a Balkan mixture now blended by Orlik which is just like Early Morning Pipe. I think your right though the recipes should be passed on. The is a set back for smoking culture..

    Cheers, Tim

  • Hungarian ("hongroise") is what oom Pauls have always been called in French.

My understanding is that the Dunhill blends were made "for" Dunhill by Murray's of Belfast, butthat they will henceforth be done by a Danish blender. I don't know the reason for the switch-over. Perhaps the inability of British blenders to import Zimbabwe tobaccos.

  • I think Orlik were blending them for a while but sadly that relationship ended. But there are plenty of other good brands out there.

    Cheers,

    Tim

  • You are quite right about there being plenty of other good brands. It's just that their English blends, Nightcap, London, Early Morning, 965, Standard, Durbar, were particularly wonderful and "from the lion's mouth", as it were. Why must everything pass away?

  • Early Morning was a favourite of mine. Along with the smoking ban in the UK I'm beginning to really dislike the world I'm living in..

  • Hello Tim,

nice video with a nice Oom Paul. I hope that you are not so stressed as me and that you can enjoy your sunday afternoon.

Wish you all the best my friend,

    Lars

  • Hello Lars,

The best thing for stress mate is a bowl of your favourite tobacco..

    Cheers, Tim

  • Tim,

you're right. So, I'm going to watch TV, smoking "Peter Rasmussen Gold Label" in my "Peterson PPP System Standard 302"...

    Cheers

    Lars :)

  • Very good Tim! I like your oop paul pipe and I guess I won't miss Dunhills Nightcap since I never tried it.. What is that in the back wall - it looks like a musket? Cheers, Sky

  • The thing in the background is a very old hunting horn mate. As for the nightcap it's a shame but there are plenty more good tobaccos out there. Cheers, Tim

  • Sweet pipes!

  • Thanks mate..

  • Hello Tim,

Nice pipe and video, by the way i have got a James Upshall pipe on its way from England.

    Thanks for the implied recommendation!

    Cheers

    Zach

  • Hello Zach,

Upshall make great pipes. I now have five which I think is enough.. I hope you enjoy yours mate.

    Cheers, Tim
