I am a very glad person because i allready owned a '92 E34m5 3.8 and now driving a 2000 E39M5. Seriously, i miss the old emmy :( Butt although i wouldnt give my E39 away again ;) The sound of the engine is just stunning and the interior is awesome

It's odd.. I raced an e39 M5 over and over again with my 3.8 e34 M5 and definitely was within less than one car length and passed in 5th gear.

Not odd, you got an approximate launch plus pretty much same weight between the two cars (additional person in the E34). So now the difference is the greater torque down low for the E39 and its 60-horsepower advantage.

On the highway a lighter E34 without extra passengers shouldn't be that far apart from an E39.

Es hört sich so an, als ob der e39iger M5 eine Schaltverkürzung hat oder haut der Fahrer die Gänge so brutal rein, dass gleich das ganze Getriebe wegfliegt?! :-o

Der M5 hat ab Werk viel kürzere Schaltwege als der Serien 5er. Ich hatte vor dem e39 M5 den 540i da hattest einen Schaltweg wie beim LKW.

Das ist mir schon klar, aber da hört es sich irgendwie danach an...mhh.

Bei unserem e39iger M5, habe ich auch schon oft die Gänge wörtlich "reinfliegen" lassen, aber so schnell...naja. Gut tut es dem Wagen sicher nicht behaupte ich mal.

Aber so viel kostet ja eine neue Kupplung nicht, da können viele M5-fahrer ein Lied von singen. *lol*

Ich hab es mir gerade nochmal angeschaut, ich bin der Meinung der M5 Fahrer schaltet garnicht so schnell. Der Eindruck entsteht, da er beim Schaltvorgang in den Begrenzer kommt und es ein/zwei Fehlzünder gibt, dadurch kommt das Geräusch und nicht vom Schalten. (Jetzt trauer im dem M5 richtig nach..)

Das stimmt...gut beobachtet.

Wenn das Auspüffle warm ist, dann schäpperts bei unserem auch, wenn man schneller schaltet.

Dann ist das natürlich eine gute Erklärung dafür, dass man annehmen könnte der Wagen hätte eine Schaltwegverkürzung. ;)

i always prefer e34, it is much more fun than e39. but for ride comfort and handling, even it is 520i, e39 is much better.

Brave effort by the E34, but I think 2 more cylinders and extra 60 horses tips the balance in favour of the E39. However, still love the E34 M5...a classic!
