You said you made no threatening motions or gestures. BUT you didn't want him to have your license. You pulling your hand away, to a police officer, is threatening (could've been going for his gun) then THROWING it.. it also can mean you're hiding something. As far as a warrant goes, I think they only need one if they need to search a house.
First off, no you can't hide or do whatever you want BECAUSE this is America. Otherwise, there wouldn't BE police. But I figured they'd be justified in entering only because the kid basically refused to give them his info and then threw the license across the room. Arresting the other kid, I dunno about that one. I hate cops just as much as anyone else, but they can enter if there is probable cause that a crime is being committed. In court they would probably simply say that the kids were obstructing justice. That would make any judge shrug their shoulders at your objection.

Well yeah, that would be the smart thing, but these kids weren't trying to go that route. They wanted to test the limits of the police by playing with them. That's what we should all be doing every chance we can. My policy is to fuck with the cops when I'm in the right, but to be incredibly respectful, complacent, and obedient when I'm in the wrong. Duck out to resist another day!

Actually, they need probable cause to enter without a warrant. the mistake he made was leaving his door open. the cops most likely filed a CYA report, and claimed they saw something because the door was left ajar, and low and behold they have their PC. Really? Please tell use why, rather than just being offensive. the officers were not invited in. they had no PC after they had apprehended their suspect. I'd be willing to bet that they searched the whole place after the tape was turned off. so please tell us, What was their PC? why did they arrest him in the first place? he was identifying himself, if not how the officer wanted. so since you have done your "Homework" enlighten us please, rather than being a condescending jerk.

They don't 'always' need a search warrant unfortunately. Read the law, search warrants are for searches.
They can enter a premises under certain circumstances. What they did here however, was sketchy. Would have to know the whole story. Although mos cops are pricks, hey need to make quota remember. So, they assume arresting some young kid for nothing, goes as an arrest.

what you do is say "may i see your badge?" then look at it ask "how do i know if this is real" then you say sorry i cant be sure your the police then say unless you have i warrent "im not alowed to speak to you, company policy". This will piss them off they will try to talk you out of it, maybe even threaten, dont listen, ask if your under arrest, if they say no close the door, you have rights.

Never invite the cop inside your home and don't leave the door open enough so they can squeeze in or something, once they're inside your home you can't kick them out or ask them to leave, too late.
If they ask you if they can go inside, don't let them, if they persist, ask to see their search warrant.
I don't think it was legal/right for the cop to turn off their camera. It's not his.

Like some of the previous commentators have said, the kid should have just handed him his ID peacefully, instead of trying to keep it away from the cop.
The kid should have said "I have nothing to say" to the cop's questions.
You should keep the door closed as much as possible but where the cops can see you, block their view with your body. So they can't see what or who is in your home.

I don't think cops deserve to die. Thats just wrong. However, I do believe that every now and then, a BAD cop needs a good ass whoopin to put him back in check. Just one good hook to the jaw, thats it. The good cops are great and god bless them.

Just a quick note, from my opinion (as a person going to school for law enforcement).
You said you made no threatening motions or gestures. BUT you didn't want him to have your license. You pulling your hand away, to a police officer, is threatening (could've been going for his gun) then THROWING it.. it also can mean you're hiding something. As far as a warrant goes, I think they only need one if they need to search a house.

First off, no you can't hide or do whatever you want BECAUSE this is America. Otherwise, there wouldn't BE police. Second, the police had probable cause to enter the home, first because they were (whether unknowingly or not) hiding people who broke the law. Second, because they refused to give them the info WHICH is illegal. Then they THREW it. Just because they're police and wearing a badge is not an excuse for citizens to consider them "hostile" police or "bad" cops. They were doing their jobs

Naw, they needed a warrant to arrest, not search. They can't just go in the house and arrest the other guy for picking up the license. The first action was probably justified but I guarantee you they got chewed out, civilly sued, or something else for entering the house unlawfully (from what we see in the video) I'm in my last quarter before I get my BA in CJ :) Good luck with your degree(s).

Yhea I just started my LE degree. So, I haven't learned too much about warrants and stuff. But I figured they'd be justified in entering only because the kid basically refused to give them his info and then threw the license across the room. Arresting the other kid, I dunno about that one. But the first one, definitely.
