The Washowski brothers made the Matrix movies as well, Check out neo's passport in the first Matrix. The passport is upside down on the screen but if you pause it, you can clearly see that neo's passport expires on 9/11/2001. The Matrix was made in 1998.
The political & social philosophy contained therein was essentially an enlightenment 'realpolitik of power' response to the paradigms of love and divine order that were flogged by the metaphysical poets, Charles II and the Miltons & Donnes of the day. The social theory is largely inspired by the ideas of Hobbes and the Leviathan.
Seems like whoever wrote this movie read "Industrial Society and Its Future", by Theodore Kaczynski, the Unabomber... and added a little bit of a possibility of hope.
i know i'm sort of stating the obvios here, but V for Vendetta was a comic book first, and the V character is based on the historical character of Guy Fawkes. The also excellent, but altogether different period film "The Libertine" starring Johhny Depp & John malkovich on the life of the Earl of Rochester also looks at similar and common area/source of ideas.
You know, I've never even seen this movie. I was turned off by the name. Someone told me what I'm doing reminded them of it, I need to see it I guess.
someone should make a video just like this, but with Obama. it fits him just as well as it fits bush.

Interesting complement to V for Vendetta. It applies to what is happening in reality.
