I'm very sorry that you don't appreciate hearing God comments BUT I never made any in regard to David Bowie or any pop star I never said anyone hasn't a right to say what ever they like So unless you wanna move to somewhere.... Like the Vatican City You will just have to put up with ALL These terribly annoyin' God comments now please go fuck your self and get a life
I much admire singers, for when they sing tough and emotional songs like this. It must take a lot of know-how. With how emotional of a person I am, it would be all I could do to get through half the song without breaking down. I could never be a singer! LOL
HE AINT GOD HE AINT 'PERFECT' THERE WAS THIS GUY IN JERUSALEM 2000 ODD YRS AGO THO NAILED TO CROSS = VERY SAD I MAY WRITE A BLOODY BOOK ON HIM MYSELF LOL HE IS A GUY HE SINGS SONGS AND IN MANY WAYS IS LIKE OPPOSITE 2 ELVIS AND DONT 4GET AS I'M SURE MR.BOWIES ACCOUNTANTS WILL DO HE WASNT 'UNIVERSALLY' ADORED TILL LETS DANCE WHEN U GONNA CUM BACK 2 GLASGOW I'LL HELP ON THE BACKING VOCALS I THINK I KNOW ALL OF YOUR VERY 'JOLLYFULL POP DITTIES' I READ HE HAD FANS FROM HERE WHEN HE WAS A TEENAGER!
@MURPHNSPUD I just don't appreciate hearing God bullshit dropped in to conversation for no reason. I don't believe in God but if he was real, I know enough about christianity to know he wasn't perfect either. Your sensitivity to someone calling Bowie 'perfect', which presumably was meant in a musical sense as a fan, is pretty ridiculous. They have the right to that opinion.. I'm just bored of hearing 'God' references all over here for no reason: same as Lady GaGa and '...arrow to the knee.'
This song hits hard for me at times, I never got the chance to say Goodbye to my brother, he commited suicide..I cameback from work, apparently he died in my best friends arm. To all those who faced and suffer near the same..hey We All Say Hi
Taken from bowiewonderworld site interview;David Bowie: Yes indeed, "Everyone Says "Hi" everyone seems jolly in tone, but is about the passing away of somebody. It was a general song about losing someone in one's life and wasn't written about anyone specifically. I had the sense of when my father died, and it seemed he had only gone away for a while and it was some time for me to reconcile that he wasn't coming back.
Living in this generation its becoming harder and harder to find proper music that hasn't been mixed 100 times or been rapped at 80 miles an hour... i am so gratefull to Bowie for keeping music alive... love him
He is Great I listened this song after moved one not so nice city ... But then I found my wife from different place far from that town I just say I can agree 100 per cent his words
@bertfrantic And what just blows my mind is that he and the guy who punched him have always been on good terms with each other. If that were me, I don't know what I would do, or what I would be like, yeah it wasn't intended but it's permanent and I feel bad for him for it because I've heard different stories of what the full effect of it is, but whatever it is I can't imagine it's been easy to deal with.
I am impressed not only by David Bowie but also by the TV crews. In my opinion their camera work accurately focused on this sad yet beautiful song perfectly.
I now understand why there are a number of great musicians in Britain.
He's always been incredibly brilliant, I really really hope he tours again and releases another album. I've never gotten the chance to see him live and I would very much like to. being born in the wrong time sucks.
It was a life-altering experience, indeed. I forgot, the band "Ash" opened the show, followed by Blue Man Group, then Bowie, then Moby. Busta Rhymes was on the bill but did not show, so everyone else played longer. All 4 artists were GREAT (okay, Ash was "good"). I flew 1,000 miles to see them & would do it again in a heartbeat. Saw BMGroup again recently... I'd highly recommend it.
But seriously, I hope for both our sakes DB tours again, I'll see you there with bells on!
And, if you catch the interview before this performance, he talks about his websites... check out bowieart*com, I have some wonderful artwork hanging on my wall done by the man himself!
I saw that tour too, at The Gorge in Washington State. I wasn't *right in front* but close enough! It was one of the best concerts I've seen! Awesome!
I think l can enlighten you everyone about the song, and where it derives from. Just before heathen came out, he was on radio 1, and was asked what was his favourite track, and he said this one.....because it was dedicated to him losing his dad. It brings tears to my eyes every time l listen to it.
The reason I lobe this song is becasue of the story behind it. I think he was in Italy writing songs for Heathen and he was thinking about his mum, dad , and everyone he had ever lost. Its such a positive song about loss.
He has had his truly bad moments, but then he hits you with something like this. Absolute class.
Bowie has always been ahead of his time, just look at Five Years to see what I mean.

Musically it is very similar to "the man who sold the world" just in a major key, not a minor one.

ziggylives1 2 years ago
This is one of my favourite songs but I spend hours wondering how to read it...I'd love some opinions of what you guys think. I reckon
1: It can be taken at face value and everyone in the song really does miss the person he's singing about.
2: It's sung ironically and he's the only one who really misses this person, because no one has anything to say except hi.
I think it's probably number 2 but I want to work it out and would love your thoughts x
