i had stroke a couple of years ago and had to learn to play what i could all over again and i found your videos and am starting to play better than i did before the stroke i truly thank you and when i get the money cause money is tight sense the stroke im getting your awesome tapes so i can advance and get better and better thanks alot your the best
Guitar/anything learning is so much easier now a days. Back in the day when I started playing, all I had out in the boondox(think Deliverance), was a cheap K-mart guitar with action that would scare off Jimi Hendrix, and a music book with simple songs(down in the valley) and some tabs/chord/cassete recorder.(and 8 track/Akai reel to reel. Excuse my whining, but the digital age here is great.
OK...so I happened upon one of your lessons on another tune and 'almost' wrote you off as another wannabe teacher (then I went back and saw that the lesson was for 'beginners'!) until I hit on THIS lesson...I realized I was sadly mistaken! This is the most succinct and easy to follow tutorial of a really hard little lick to pickup (the intro that is!) by ear that I've ever heard!
Awesome Lesson!!
(I would've liked to have seen the D7-E7 lick that Stevie hooks in there but...s'all good!!)
I like the Panda flame thrower!;;;hahahaha......Great Lesson, as alway's mr. Marty!....(see.. I watced to the end!)..lol...I substituted the D7 and E7 with SRV's "lick " to satisfy the D7 and E7 chord progression..hope you can decipher that!
sodding hell. i got the blues verse part completely down(first thing i ever learned on guitar). but singin while playing still f's up for me. any hints? why did steve had to do such a diffrent rythm for singing?
@Illyriametal Try learning songs where the strumming and singing are the same. I also found that I could sing way better with old folk songs where the finger picking pattern goes along with the lyrics, when I first started. It is hard though, and not something that is natural. You just need to get the song down to where you can do it without thinking about it and then add the lyrics. Lots of practice. Don't get discouraged, it takes time.
i just got a video about a crazy mormon lady as a related video and I was curious as to what the hell that had anything to do with this....if someone can think of why let me know
I agree with the comments about how great an instructor this guy is. I've checked out most of the online instructors and Marty is 100 times better than whoever might be rated 2nd.
So happy you taught this one.......little known, but an SRV great. More SRV and Hendrix Marty! When the first guitarjamz bonsai headbands get released, I want one! Hahahaa!
Damn my lack of guitar playing knowledge, I think I might have to just bookmark this one for when I can understand this better. Damn, I love this song so much, it's on the top of my 'to learn' list :)
awesome...you look like sal from howard stern...which isnt an insult im a huge stern fan...BABA BOOEY! lol great lesson though and one of my fav srv songs
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
MARTY! you lesson is wrong so you can suck a dick you high looking son of a bitch. and go buy a better looking guitar cause that piece of shit looks like a hand me down. peace
@MultiRick1969 and you're one of the dumb fucks who doesnt know the difference between "your" and "you're," you also must be retarded if you think that tabs are any help at all, cause if you're any type of musician you should be able to learn by either seeing or hearing it, and if you cant do so after watching this then you need to find something to do other than play the guitar.
@MultiRick1969 If you cant understand what he is doing in this. Please get off the computer and actually learn guitar and not just learn songs idiot. If you cant even play what looks like the 12 bar blues in this song. You need to learn guitar. Go learn scales and chords. Stop complaining about not having any tabs either until you actually try to get some. Like idk why not try google? You're just a lazy dumbass who is bitching because you cant even play guitar.
Thanks so much for this excellent lesson. People love this song, and it sounds great acoustic with friends, stories, and of course the blues. Great teaching method. I subscribe.
you are fricking awesome.....would love to join guitarjamz but i am too old to spend that much money on something i do for fun.............anyways teach on
Thanks Marty, AWESOME lesson. Really helped me to get this right. I'll check through your other lessons too since I think this is by far one of the best lessons I've found on youtube. It's clear, simple and well explained. Thanks!
great lesson marty..as always. One area of this song that I'm having hella problems with is the little lick that is played toward the end of the song...I've got the intro and the verse and chorus chords down, but I can't seem to get that one lick...I can' play a botched up version that kinda sounds similar, but I know it's wrong....howza bout a lesson on that huh?? Thanks man...I love all these vids you post...all great stuff...
Good lesson.I can tell this isnt in SRV's tuning. But this is a really good lesson.I think people should learn songs in regular tuning,if possible, before tuning down a couple steps.
This is an awesome song. When I hear it,its kinda sad.SRV was a bad-ass guitarist,This is a easy song to learn too. When I learned Texas Flood,it took a while. But I learned this by the time the lesson was over,so thanks man, keep the lessons comin'.
I've always loved this song....and now I can play it. Thanks for the easy to understand lesson. I love your teaching style and the wikid grooves you are laying down!
Keep up the good work and thanks for helping guys like me out.
