People need to be responsible for their own actions. If I am going to be somewhere for at least 5 hours after I have one drink and cut myself off, I should be safe driving out of there. If I have a dd, I cut myself off at 2 drinks just in case. I am responsible for my own actions and am making a mature decision. If I am staying home, I do drink a bit more but won't get drunk. I say that if people can't control their behavior and they kill someone, the death penalty should be on the table.
Actually there has been studies done that show that weed doesn't affect your driving capabilities. In most case's people actually drove better on weed. Its not like alcohol, it doesn't dull your sense's. I have driven on weed many times, and its actually very relaxing and I tend to pay attention more than when i'm sober. And i'm not saying that is an argument for driving on weed , but just my personal experience.

@yerk3 First off that difference should be accounted for in the amounts a person can have before they count as under the influence, in the same way that there is an amount of alcohol in the bloodstream before you count as legally drunk. That amount should vary based on the substances and its effects.
I personally don't have an opinion about the severity of marijuana's effects on driving performance which is why I am not advocating for or against the current DUI laws.

Other than that, I think it is inconsistent if a substance is legal to own but is not legal if it is in a car. That makes no sense.
And considering that you don't understand the point I made, when you're faced with the same situation in future I suggest you ASK first and not open with insults.

@ristinraccoon Actually, since alcohol and weed have completely different effects on people's ability to drive, the laws should take that into account. Weed doesn't make people drive recklessly or impair motor skills like alcohol does.

@yerk3 First off that difference should be accounted for in the amounts a person can have before they count as under the influence, in the same way that there is an amount of alcohol in the bloodstream before you count as legally drunk. That amount should vary based on the substances and its effects.
I personally don't have an opinion about the severity of marijuana's effects on driving performance which is why I am not advocating for or against the current DUI laws.

I can drive stoned 'round the Nurburgring in under 9 minutes (without hitting anything)... so it clearly doesn't affect my reaction time.
I'm not saying I would drive on a public road while stoned, but it's clearly not the same thing as driving drunk. Maybe it's about the same as driving while high on caffeine.
