and for the record, I'm not hatin! I've been a huge fan of Billy Joel ever since I was little of River of dreams first came out. My dad bought the CASSETTE for me and then dug out all his old cassettes, which consisted of every billy joel album
i love this song! i think billy joel is one of the greats! I do see this song bein' a expression of what things were like for the old rockers looking at the new era or the 80's
I love it how he's drinking beer in the video! The censors haven't allowed you to drink beer on camera for years. This video would probably be banned now. Sad.
I think the relevance of this song is key especially here on Youtube, where everyone wants to insult everyone else's music. New, old, funky, bluesy- it's still rock-n-roll. Stop trying to win a fictional contest and just enjoy it.
@jazzmaster Eminem doesn't talk about real problems, he talks about killing his wife. Although I don't like ANY rap, tupac was the only real one. He talked about REAL problems. Not to mention, rap just has no creativity. Anyone can talk about how they're gonna fuck a girl, but it takes true talent to hit high vocals, master an instrument, and come up with great lyrics. Rap is just talking fast, making beats on a computer, and writing lyrics about the same shit over and over.
....as billy joe would say, dont change the colour of your hair.........how about a pair of pink sidewinders and a bright orange pair of pants.......bwahahahahaha
Somewhere around 1:00 PM today, I turned on the radio to see what was on, and I managed to catch THE LAST 2 SECONDS OF THIS SONG, and I got really pissed at myself for having not turned on the radio 2 minutes and 55 seconds earlier. This is probably my favorite Billy Joel song, with Honesty, Stiletto, Only the Good Die Young, The Stranger, and Just the Way You Are following close behind. My god, I love all of his songs, and it's so hard to pick just a few favorites.
@Staticbursts Rappers have no taste. Soundboards and Autotune poorly make it look like lil b and soulja boy have talent, which they don't. And they don't have any creativity in their songs either. Billy Joel sings, not talks, he varies his songs (not all just "slut ho sex pimp etc."), and he has a brain that is not ripped apart by drugs and narcissism. To sum it up, take your talentless "artists" and your crappy taste in music and stick it up your ass.
@MrMan4020 Good news is, Adele is here. She's talented, legit, writes her own music, and sings with soul. Love her. :) The first new artist I've loved in a long time.
@jazzmaster909 Uhh i am sorry, but Eminem is not classic, I'm 14 and i know this, classic rap Are bands and groups like : Run D.M.C. , Vanilla Ice ( overrated in my opinion ) Heck, Will Smith had classic rap talent, and there are more, but Eminem is DEFIANTLY NOT Classic, :)
@jazzmaster909 you. are. an. idiot. EMINEM CLASSIC? eminem is as mainstream as a no-talent, modern day so called "rapper" can get. hes the furthest thing from classic, and never will be
@dog6363 OH MY GOD. I've been trying to make a video game parody of this song forever... Okay, more like a month and a half, but still. It was going to be about all of these new consoles like the Wii and Xbox, and how we remember some of the revolutionary systems, like the NES and the N64.

Wow, Billy Joe has so much SWAG!!!

This song was "hip" in the 1960s...but we can all agree at LEAST it needs sum synthesizers and maybe a turntable or drum machine to still sound kool today. At BEST we could delete the verses and put Jay-Z, LIL B and SOULJA BOIIY on each verse as a guest verse. Dam, dat would be a sick jam i could pump out to!!! :)
@Staticbursts No why in the fuck, would we combine the classic, amazing music, with shitty pointless "Hip, Hop" bullshit? and i think the sound of the song, is good, and will stay as is. Like if you agree.
@Staticbursts First of all the song is from 1980 which isn't in the 1960s... Also speak for yourself bro we can't all agree that this song needs synthesizers or a turntable to sound cool, this song is perfect as it is and if you cant see that then get off the video and go listen to gay ass soulja boy.
maybe you should stop trying to help because you honestly sound like an idiot. You know nothing of legitimate music. All the crap that gets put out today with your drum kat machines, synthesizers and turntables is fake and will never be as recognized as real musicians like Billy Joel and the others alike. I feel bad for you. Billy has sold over 150 million albums. Anyone today come close to that??? Nope...don't think so, so just shut your mouth, you idiot!
@Staticbursts Please tell me you're just trolling us. Modern music "artists" *spits* can't even write their own music, let alone sing it without being autotuned...when they're actually singing, which counts as music, hence rap does not. I would also like to point out that without rock 'n roll, contemporary R'n'B wouldn't be what it is today, it'd probably still be jazz.
@Staticbursts I have no clue who lil b is and soulja boy can lick my sweaty nut sack. And if they ever put any of them in this song id pry kill my self
@Staticbursts OMFG you are even more retard first rap is just a shit like "oh look at me im rhyming words at fast speed give me money" and second wishing for one perosn to be death makes you one of the worst scums i ever dealt with

@bigblockvista Haha cute...Elvis, Johnny Cash, and Frank Sinatra all primarily performed "commercially written" songs, AKA music WRITTEN BY SOMEONE ELSE with the INTENT OF MAKING COMMERCIAL MUSIC. Frankly, back when Billy Joel was alive it would have been great if someone else could have written his songs, because songs like this one prove he was a decent singer but a shitty songwriter.

let me tell you anly this....YOU MAY BE RIGHT and all the songs, like It's Still Rock And Roll To Me, in this album..... Music and Lyrics by Billy Joel Album: GLASS HOUSES

Sure there's the odd rapper/group that puts real messages into their songs, but you have to dig deep to find them. The popular stuff is 90% "bang dat ho, shoot dat nigga, money money money".
@DiamShadowWraith Whilst there are perfectly legitimate concerns that can be raised about hip hop, I would point out that arguing from moral content carries the danger of equating ethical value with artistic quality. For example, if there is a crime drama where the characters are not brought to justice, yet the film features a witty script, imaginative direction and a compelling narrative, does it become a bad film because criminals are portrayed favourably? Of course not.
@DiamShadowWraith Furthermore, the association of rap with present music is misleading when one considers that hip hop culture has existed for approximately four decades now. Indeed, at the time of this single's release, records featuring rapping were becoming commercial successes.
@Corallis I know, that's why I said 'wouldn't be what it is today' instead of 'wouldn't exist'. Rock partly came from R'n'B, but then had some input in reshaping it in turn. But yeah, you're right, artistic merit and morals are two different arguments here. Either way, I can't stand by and watch someone claim that rap has the moral high ground over rock'n'roll. That's just...wrong.
Other then Bruce Dickinson, Billy Joel is my favorite singer forever! I know how old he is now but I dont want to get with him, I just think he was really cute when he was young. And if we were the same age while he was young...I wouldn't mind being Billy Joel's girlfriend hehe.
Anyone who uses the term 'rock and roll' is either in production, promotion, or they are a Media Product (tm). 'Rock and roll music' is music, 'rock and roll' is something completely different. You know when Kiss say they want to rock and roll all night, they're not talking about making music.
This music track of Billy Joel willl never die even if today's music would attempt to kill it! Forever Billy Joel and his Glass Houses album my favorite!
When groups like the Beatles came out, oldies were doing the same thing oldies do now: Lamenting the death of good music and bla di bla. Yesterday's music will always seem better to those it spoke to at the time. Personally, I love all kinda music, cuz hey, it's still rock and roll to me. ♪
@dunneh It's a bit different now, because it's more about image than it ever was. Sometimes I wonder....if Billy Joel was young again, would be able to be signed as a new artist today? The industry seems to mainly want trendy, modelesque celebrities posing as musicians/artists.
look people, i LUV billy joel and the beatles and all of those AMAZING bands and artists. but u hav 2 consider that singers NOWDAYS r good 2, maybe not as good as the 1s from the 80s but still good. i know i will prolly get a lot of thumbs down but thats ok!!!!!
@Staticbursts dude shut up... Im a junior in high school and i know more people who listen to this then that talentless auto-tuned crap you call music. Rock will never die because if has spread into everything. Anywhere you go in music nowadays was influenced by music like this... You know why? Because modern music is a phase... Rock has and will stand throughout the ages
@Italianboy322 I guess the booze is what made him look so damn old. I just watched a couple of his videos from the years after this and he appears to be aging backwards. His songs also seemed to be fading (getting worse over the years). Maybe the booze was giving him the edge he needed to make good hits.
you noobs think you can have your coffee and eat it too by listening to this crap and calling yourself "music lovers." look, rock is dead, just like classical architecture is dead. sure, they had some past triumphs, but nobody makes them anymore. why do people only listen to Gym Class Heroes and BASEDGOD now? because they're hip, just like billy joel used to be. only its 40 years later.
thankfully pretty soon billy joel's last remaining fans will be dead and we can delete this shit from youtub
@Staticbursts Billy Joel is amazing, you are likely to be on eof those people who liusten to Bieber and Selena. ROck and Roll is far from dead, I know tons of people around my age (15) who still listen to this kind of music among many other classic song. So you sir can get the fuck out.
@Staticbursts If rock was dead like you say it is, why is Steven Tyler a judge on American Idol? Do you even know who he is? And why would the make Guitar Hero games after the two of the biggest rock groups, Metallica and Aerosmith? If rap was so popular and kicking rock out, then why isn't there a Lil Wayne Guitar Hero? Rock has been around longer than that crap, and will be here long after it's gone. Guitars, basses, and drums are always gonna be here, but sound boards won't.
@hannahlova23 more like billy, try to lick justin's toes better than selena and maybe, just MAYBE, justin will let joel open for him during justin's Never Say Never Part II tour. Part I was excellent, my dads took me it last year :)
I hate walking into a billy joel community and listening to crappy rap fans like this piece of shit...
STATICBURSTS
Tell me that some rap artist like Eminem? or anyone else for that matter, could ever have more talent than Billy Joel. I wish I had gotten into hacking rather than system hardware so I could rip the insides of his computer out from the comfort of my own home.
@donedave Who cares what Rolling Stone's Magazine says, it matters what fans till this day say and listen to him on YouTube to see his classics. I like all kinds of music just not into too much country or too much rap.
whats with the hate guys? you noobs can't handle the truth? billy joel is a medicore artist and this is a crappy song. piano guy is the only good billy joel song, and even that would probably sound better if jay z or LIL B had a rap verse or two thrown into the mix.
sorry to drop knowledge on yall, but dis the truth
@Gregolian i used to think that Elton John sucked until he performed with Eminem at the grammys so he's OK now. umm...i mean its the same reason why otherwise smart people like you guys listen to billy "coal" joel (he should get coal for xmas), it's that sometimes dumb things just happen
What's with this Billy Joel's voice? His singing sucks and the lyrics don't make sense, rock music is stupid. I think this would sound much better if we remove the singing and put in some rapping instead. I think that #LILBBASEDGOD could make this shit into a dope beat
@Staticbursts you know u dont know crap its because of rock and roll that rock music formed clasic rock that stuff it also gave inspiration to rap and hip hop so dont u go round trolling if u dont like this music then dont comment :) simple as that
whatever it takes, the man wrights his own songs , plays instruments , sings with soul. Hella of a showman, this coming from a guy who grew up listening to hip-hop & house music.
To all you Fruitland Grizzlies alumni, Utah Utes fans, and Carolina Panthers fans (like myself): This was the #1 song in the USA when Jordan Gross came into the world (July 20, 1980).
Billy Joel is always the right answer.

Other then Bruce Dickinson, Billy Joel is my favorite singer forever! I know how old he is now but I dont want to get with him, I just think he was really cute when he was young. And if we were the same age while he was young...I wouldn't mind being Billy Joel's girlfriend hehe.
EminemCathleen4ever 2 months ago
Anyone who uses the term 'rock and roll' is either in production, promotion, or they are a Media Product (tm). 'Rock and roll music' is music, 'rock and roll' is something completely different. You know when Kiss say they want to rock and roll all night, they're not talking about making music.
Hint: they're talking about fucking.

When groups like the Beatles came out, oldies were doing the same thing oldies do now: Lamenting the death of good music and bla di bla. Yesterday's music will always seem better to those it spoke to at the time. Personally, I love all kinda music, cuz hey, it's still rock and roll to me. ♪
dunneh 2 months ago
@dunneh It's a bit different now, because it's more about image than it ever was. Sometimes I wonder....if Billy Joel was young again, would be able to be signed as a new artist today? The industry seems to mainly want trendy, modelesque celebrities posing as musicians/artists.
emidore 2 months ago
look people, i LUV billy joel and the beatles and all of those AMAZING bands and artists. but u hav 2 consider that singers NOWDAYS r good 2, maybe not as good as the 1s from the 80s but still good. i know i will prolly get a lot of thumbs down but thats ok!!!!!

It's tunes like this that made him a Sweet Billy Badass! Never argue with that, EVER!
kja427 2 months ago
@Staticbursts dude shut up... Im a junior in high school and i know more people who listen to this then that talentless auto-tuned crap you call music. Rock will never die because if has spread into everything. Anywhere you go in music nowadays was influenced by music like this... You know why? Because modern music is a phase... Rock has and will stand throughout the ages

Billy Joel really needs to start drinking again.
Italianboy322 2 months ago in playlist Music

Staticbursts 2 months ago
@Staticbursts rock is dead? Not quite, it's only cause of sheep like you that anyone makes that statement.
71DJP 2 months ago 3
@Staticbursts Billy Joel is amazing, you are likely to be on eof those people who liusten to Bieber and Selena. ROck and Roll is far from dead, I know tons of people around my age (15) who still listen to this kind of music among many other classic song. So you sir can get the fuck out.

@Staticbursts I don't like coffee, nor would I "eat" it if I did like it. Also, I'm not going to be dead anytime soon.
You can go back to your justin beiber and autotuned crap now.

@Staticbursts who told you Gym Class Heroes was "hip?" because you have been severely misinformed.
superxtuffxpinkxpuff 2 months ago 2
@Staticbursts If rock was dead like you say it is, why is Steven Tyler a judge on American Idol? Do you even know who he is? And why would the make Guitar Hero games after the two of the biggest rock groups, Metallica and Aerosmith? If rap was so popular and kicking rock out, then why isn't there a Lil Wayne Guitar Hero? Rock has been around longer than that crap, and will be here long after it's gone. Guitars, basses, and drums are always gonna be here, but sound boards won't.

I hate walking into a billy joel community and listening to crappy rap fans like this piece of shit...
STATICBURSTS
Tell me that some rap artist like Eminem? or anyone else for that matter, could ever have more talent than Billy Joel. I wish I had gotten into hacking rather than system hardware so I could rip the insides of his computer out from the comfort of my own home.

whats with the hate guys? you noobs can't handle the truth? billy joel is a medicore artist and this is a crappy song. piano guy is the only good billy joel song, and even that would probably sound better if jay z or LIL B had a rap verse or two thrown into the mix.
sorry to drop knowledge on yall, but dis the truth

@Staticbursts If he is mediocre why is he in tour with Elton John routinely?
Gregolian 2 months ago
@Gregolian i used to think that Elton John sucked until he performed with Eminem at the grammys so he's OK now. umm...i mean its the same reason why otherwise smart people like you guys listen to billy "coal" joel (he should get coal for xmas), it's that sometimes dumb things just happen

What's with this Billy Joel's voice? His singing sucks and the lyrics don't make sense, rock music is stupid. I think this would sound much better if we remove the singing and put in some rapping instead. I think that #LILBBASEDGOD could make this shit into a dope beat
