I have just heard a radio program from an historian who has done research from inside China. He found millions of death causes because of Mao. The Communist Party was proud about these deaths, people giving their life for the party? Amazing, great! A dad burrying his reactionairy son alive.

You can never have a classless society. Either you or your neighbour has ownership over "it", or no one does. What you are implying is that we all own it but not really. I'm sorry to break it to you, but there is no middle ground there. Now, if you own something and you choose to share it, thats one thing. But you can't share what doesn't belong to you. Personally I see many flaws with his so called "autobiography" account. I've tried to find the author's sources but i could not find any. And it's quite popular here in the states.

I dislike quotas for one thing, but thats another matter.

A man was trying to force people to give him materials. Sounds like Mao didnt want people going around claiming authority they didnt have, or tricking, coercing, forcing, other groups into what such a guy would want. Some heirarchical structure is not a bad thing.

I'm still skeptical. But considering during this time people in the US and western Europe were trying to avoid the spread of communism, it wouldn't surprise me. I myself, even tho I'm not a communist, I'm a revolutionary and I have always still held a strong respect for Mao Zedong. Some of his policies were great ideas and could even be applied to help the situation in today's world.

The only strong criticism that can be leveled against Mao, Is how easily the state mechanism left by him in the PROC where subverted from within by those at the very top after his passing. The failure to create a strong vibrant participatory democracy free of the vice-grip of privilege state overlords was the undoing of Mao social revolution.

That being said, China under Mao's leadership accomplished more for the public good then his predecessors.
