I was never afraid of AIDS-or as they called it in the early '80's-GRIDS-such a joke-it was not pnuemonic like TB-ppl freaked cause it could manifest with with pnuemo c-just the name-pnuemo-freaked ppl. Not enough though. Midwest Ohio-guys never thought it would bother them. That's a big city problem. They were mistaken. Dead before they came up with this cocktail. Condoms always.
I believe this was the first movie that took a positive point of view at the AIDS crisis. The HIV positive character was strong, confident, and honest, and Jeffrey was the one with the problem having to defeat fear in order to love. Being an HIV positive gay man, I did appreciate this completely new perspective, and the idea of a bright future through true love.
This was also potrayed in Longtime Companion, 1989. How Gay men were dealing with AIDs whther they have it or not. Campbell Scott and Dermott Mulroney and Mary Louise Parker gave excellent performances. And, at the end, they relayed all our hopes. That one day we will meet again. We could start laughing again in the 1990s, with respect. The Plague had slowed down. And Now? How do we make a movie about contracting Aids at 20 to feel part of the community?
More than slowed down, the plague has stopped being a mortal disease, to become a chronic one... the problem is the comunity has become confident, but I expect HIV will have a increase in numbers in the coming years. Haven't watched "Longtime Companion", but I certainly will

Does Steve die? (Haven't watched the movie yet only clips). I really want to know before I watch it. I'm not very good with sad movies.
