This is amazing!!! I wish that i had a Sky Guitar so I could learn to play like the great master himself. Uli is one of my top favorite guitarists of all time
people always give so much credit to randy rhoads and EVH! but Ulis playing blows them off the stage! and to top it all he was doing it way before them! i mean he was proper shredding! not just pentatonics and simple single digit tapping!
Uli is fantastic. Like some have mentioned, Yngwie, Becker, Friedman, etc... were definitely listening to him back in the late 70's/early 80's... you can hear the influence. I wish Yngwie would get back to playing with more of a bluesy/Uli vibe in addition to the shred stuff like he used to when he first hit the scene. I think he goes for the throat too much nowadays like he's trying to prove something.
@khabibissell No I think he just feels he has transcended blues - neo-classical is his forte. I think Yngwie is definitely more clean, precise and practiced with his harmonics and everything but I can definitely see that some if not a lot of influence by Uli has come into play. Yngwie, though, for me, is different and partly incomparable due to the fact that he prefers exclusively classical pieces. They're both good in their own right.
@dblup157 Depending on which one of his guitars it is, either 30 or "35". (The spacing between frets is a whole tone as opposed to the semi tone of a normal fret, making it effectively 35 frets.)
Yngwy is just a student , gus J a pupil, friedman a little boy , John Oliva Randy Rhoades, blackmore, zakk wylde, Jake E lee, Satriani Gary Moore Steve Vay John Petrucci and so on and so on i saw them all ,
To the Super ORION91. Matthias Jabs is great guitarist too. Or can you play guitar better than Matthias Jabs. I want hear when you play Rock You Like Hurricane guitar solo. Or No One Like You guitar solo.
Since the first time I heard Taken by Force Uli took me to a land of scales that were different than the rest I had heard.. Uli introducing melody with the minor modes changed the whole game as much as Sgt Peppers changed things. Being influenced by Jon Lord and Uli has made me do keyboard leads that take it to a new level. Thanks brother. I've passed on your teachings to many Canadian musicians. We all appreciate and respect you. God bless Mr. Roth.
@ternatese Don't be so hard on Malmsteen. In comparison to Uli, he's way overrated, sure. But Yngwie Malmsteen is still a great, and SINCERE musician if you ask me.
Uli Jon Roth is tremendous. Steve Morse is also brilliant and in my opinion the only other who should be mentioned along with Uli because he is also humble and a great overall musician.
I have just discovered Uli Jon Roth because I saw him playing lead guitar with Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins At Rock Am Ring. They where playing Gossamer an amazing tune and his playing right up there with Billy's playing. Billy on lead guitar, Uli on lead guitar, Jeff on rhythm guitar, Ginger on base guitar, and Lisa on the keyboard it was beautiful.
@godofreudson I wasn't saying he plays metal but I think he enjoys it. As for the Hammet info, Uli appeared on That Metal Show with Kirk and they talked about how they had been jamming back stage.
First of all this isn't shredding, whoever said that. I play uli and yngwie stuff and they utilize the same scales. So does ritchie blackmore. Anyway if you actually study there stuff there not that alike. There are some simalarities but you get that with just about any guitarist . Most of the time you can hear a guitarists influences. it's not a bad thing
Uli Jon Roth is one of those immensely talented and influential but largely forgotten musicians that just keeps plugging away over the years. This is an excellent example of the pure skill the man possesses.
For the record, unless names like Blackmore, Schenker, Hendrix, and those mentioned as his contemporaries, not much else needs be said. He's not a big name in the popular culture, but guitarist worldwide are beholden to him and know his work.
@Saundful Beautiful tone and amazing playing ability. This guy is truly a master.I have heard of him but this is the first time I ever listened to him.

@ironmsa Well, he can be the gem of the people who appreciate real music...I mean do you really want little kids running around listening to Justin Beiber, Hannah Montana, Britney Spears and whoever else in the pop world today...listening to this, it'd be embarrassing if that were so...
Just because an idiot who doesn't know that all James Hetfield does is riff doesn't have enough musical talent to feel the emotion of the guitar player, doesn't mean that there IS no emotion. no uli= no yngwie, yngwie took more from this guy than anyone, glad he did, hell, even the sound of his guitar is yngwie. now all u roth fans - type in little savage by yngwie malmsteen and see what he learned from his father
This song is so amazing, I had my old computer with a lot of his songs but my friend got a some virus looking at child porn on it and needless to say I got far away from that computer... anyways, it's hard to get those songs back. amazing talent this guy is. Especially with those sweeps! I'd do anything to sweep.
Maybe he plays not as fast as all the Yngwies did later times. But his techniques are the roots of that what all his successors accomplished in perfectness. For me he is one of the godfathers of modern playing. Just whatch him sweeping at 1:01
and 4:33 or when he plays crescendos e.g at 3:20.
@MegaHellfire666 uli compromises speed for fluidity and the sheer smoothness of his sound is indicative of true virtuosity. he can play just as fast as any of them(probably faster) than most but he prefers to use every technique imaginable to create a virtual wall of sound. No guitarist alive puts the kind of emotion in their playing that Uli does on a daily basis, the sheer emotive quality of his music defies genre it is more than shredding it is more than Prog rock, It is ULI Fucking ROTH
Listen to Firewind (1980) & Beyond the astral skies (1984)! Now you know where those posers Malmsteen & Vai got their stuff. :) I never want to hear from anyone else that malmsteen "invented" this neo-classical style! period!
hah! This is rock and blues kustom bike show and festival in Pentrich Derbyshire England. I dont know if this is the same showing I went to, but he joined stage with Micheal Schenker at the one i went to. Which was when Scorpions played. Good festival, it seems to have gone down the drain since i last checked though :(

No guitarist alive puts the kind of emotion in their playing that Uli does on a daily basis, the sheer emotive quality of his music defies genre it is more than shredding it is more than Prog rock, It is ULI Fucking ROTH

easy to see who Yngwie copied (and now pretends he invented it all)

Listen to Firewind (1980) & Beyond the astral skies (1984)! Now you know where those posers Malmsteen & Vai got their stuff. :) I never want to hear from anyone else that malmsteen "invented" this neo-classical style! period!

hah! This is rock and blues kustom bike show and festival in Pentrich Derbyshire England. I dont know if this is the same showing I went to, but he joined stage with Micheal Schenker at the one i went to. Which was when Scorpions played. Good festival, it seems to have gone down the drain since i last checked though :(
