WHat about all citizens, not just all journalists... Fuck you, if you think that covering protests gives you extra rights that the other protestors do not have!!! Every single citizen in the USA is a member of the press, if they say they are! Reporting is something we all have a right to do! Unbelievable! ...the people of this country are so ignorant and narrow minded! Do you need to have a "press pass" in order to be considered "press"? If so, the freedom of the press is 100% meaningless!
FUck that fat bitch at 1:30 its not the media's job to prove their not doing anything wrong, thats the faceless, Badge-less, no ID carrying, NAZI riot squads job.... i geuss....
If a media reporter is at a unlawful assemble and is contributing to the offence, he is guilty and should be arrested.
The media reporter some corporate media or some homeless guy with a stolen cell cam. has no constitution right to violate the law. The ASSHOLE should arrested.
You must be St. Paul, Missouri how is your IQ in the state of Missouri in there are broadcasting from? I know most people in the Minnesota have enough IQ to id the state. At least I would hope so.
Coleman had a newsconference and he was all like "oh it was such a hard week for us."
Yeah, let's mace you and throw plastic cuffs on you, and toss you in some oversized chicken coop for a couple days, and see how hard you thought it was.
These people find civil rights such an inconvenience. How hard it must have been, Coleman, to mobilize riot squads to seek out protesters and bust heads. Rough day at the office.
TV polls shout at U/Trying 2 get us 2/ Think it's a close election/ As greedy ReflubLieRants/Every minute chant/ On R mass media that they own/ 400 arrested/Beaten & molested/ Outside RNC, 2008/ No network coverage/Proves Reds do manage/ Untruths from A.M. til late Get Ur head out of Ur ass/Start trying to pass/ For a democratic nation U anti-Christ devils/Ur satanic,lying swill/ Put us in a Great Depression/
this is not new... Simply cuz none of the protesters r smart enough to know if everyone in the protest carries a weapon no police would dare step over the line.... look up who owns the media you will see.....
"Freedom of the Press" as if they have some special rights above the rest of us. We all have the right to observe the state in repressive action, not just the press. So sad, that they are so elitist as to not frame the question in the context of ALL AMERICANS, fuck them.
They think they can just make some badge and hang around their neck and do what they want, go where ever they want. No if their are in eth same place as protesters when the shit hits the fan, they are part of it all.
what kind of anti-American fascist idiot are you? Does the Constitution mean nothing to you? Reporters are SUPPOSED TO BE WHEREVER THE SHIT IS HITTING THE FAN. That's their job, doofus! Get a clue or shut the fuck up.
Reporters, not protesters, or people that just call themselves reports cause the went out and bought a $100 video cam. As in war, reporters are targets too.
(I think they have better ragdoll effects when they are shot)
Bunch of shit. There were plenty of jounalist that had ID's on and were still arrested. Also citizens have the right to assemble. You have corporate jounalists and then you have the mainstream media thats us folks. These pigs have cameras all over on us. Well then lets do the same.
The actions of law enforcement during the RNC was the most shameful thing I have ever witnessed near my hometown, even the day Tim Pawlenty became Minnesota's governor was not as embarrassing.
LOL I can make a press pass in a matter of minutes. Just having a home made badges say you are press don't make you press. Carring a chep $100 video cam don't make you press. Working witha internet video blogger don't make you press.
If you are told to move away that mean everyone.
I am part of the millions that say if the are told to leave and they don't, beat spray. What ever it takes to get them to leave. And if that don't work put them in jail for a year or so. Press is not above the law
Journalists aren't above the law, no. Ms Goodman and her crew didn't break any laws. The policemen did, and it's on film. The city of St. Paul will pay a price for that stupidity.
Police are not above the law either, ANGLEBOOT, or the law is meaningless. Unless you're one of those fascists who think that whatever uniformed men with clubs do IS the law. If you are such a person, we don't need your kind in the USA.
Why do you think that only the "media" has the right to report on what they witness? I think EVERYONE should have the right to report whatever they see in public. Whether they have a degree in journalism should not matter one bit. I'm a college instructor and American degrees aren't worth shit! The idiot we have for President barely made it through college and can barely speak English so if he can be President, ANYONE should be able at least be a free-lance reporter.
No problem with that, just when the police says to "everyone to move and leave" That means everyone. just because some people go out with their Video phone don't make them media. Or from some internet web blog page don't make the media. Just someone that thinks they are above the law and an untouchable. Well they are not.
The Constitution was put in place to stop anyone or government body from having too much power. We have to fight to keep our rights under this most important of documents. We are falling ever more in to a fascist state and must do everything in our, the peoples, power the retain our democracy and freedoms. This is possibly the most important time in the history of man. The effects of a nation as powerful as ours, corrupting the world could be catastrophic.
The Constitution is going the way of Christmas, the Lord's Prayer, Prayer in Schools, disciplining our children, and Santa Claus, in case you haven't noticed. It is not much more than poorly made paper now. These are all things that happen in every pre-Fascist country.Americans are making a BIG mistake to think that the horrors of the Nazis aren't possible here. There is no limit to how far men will lower themselves in order to obtain power.
Amy Goodman and her crew had their press credentials forcibly taken from them. So the woman in this video talking about mistaking journalists for protesters is blowing smoke.
There was NO MISTAKE. Journalists were arrested for committing JOURNALISM. This is one of the many symptoms of fascism displayed by our ostensible 'democracy'.
Do you think that only "journalists" with credentials should be able to report the news? I don't. I think ANYONE should be able to report, photograph, and film anything that they see in public. Who the hell ever got the idea that only a bunch of ass-kissing, corporation serving journalists, should be able to report on what they witness?
You seem to have missed my point altogether. Let me try again.
Taking these journalists' press passes when they were covering a riot was analogous to taking someone's passport in a hostile foreign country.
This action was deliberate, and really stupid, since it left professional journalists vulnerable to the same abuse suffered by all the peaceful protesters at the RNC.
That thuggishness will cost the city of St. Paul both money and reputation. Can you agree with that much?
Dropping charges against the journalists is the least of it. Every journalist should sue the city for civil rights violations, and the cops or federal agents involved should be reprimanded or dismissed.
Just like all the seemingly incompetent People In Government that dropped the ball during 9/11, not one Police Officer, not one Federal Agent will be dismissed or reprimanded because they are doing exactly as they are instructed.
To sue, you would have to find an attorney with enough integrity and willing to help these people for less than about $20,000...which I don't think you will EVER find in America!
This segment didn't report that secret service actually pulled off Democracy Now's producers and host RNC press credentials from their necks. Ridiculous!
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Standard procedure when the status quo is threatened. We've allowed congress, the police, our judges, the president, etc., more power than any group should have over any other. Abuses of power plague this country.
ONE GOAL: WE MUST GET RID OF PEOPLE IN THE CONGRESS AND THE SENATE - ALL OF THEM IF NECESSARY. They have wronged the people in so many ways and THEY are the ROOT of the problem. Their rubber stamp leads to WAR.

Press passes are how you tell who is press. It's not complicated.
When you silence the media you close the eyes and ears of a democracy.
The press have to be in the middle of it to see what's going on.
