  • I have an issue after I install mac os on another hdd. I used the iBoot and Multibeast and I have a UD5 mobo. and have 4gigs of ram to install mac os x 10.6.8 and everything goes fine until i restart and not using the iBoot and takes me to a Grub command line. Also I had Fedora 14 installed on the drive but now its all Mac OS X. help please.. Thanks

  • i didn't see it either =D

  • Dear Snole,

i followed your nr.5 very carefully, but after the succesful installation it appears that at restart (with the EE disk loaded) the installed SL shows to be not-bootable (repeatedly).

Strange enough, an earlier attempt some time ago worked well.

    Do you have a suggestion?

    Thanks and regards, Rein

  • Myhack is for letting the system load by itself without the cd then? cause ive seen tutorials on how to install a clean version of osx with it too in another partition. Im very confused, thanks a lot!

  • @chnx84:

Myhack installs the bootloader (Chameleon) and some other vital things to be able to boot the computer without the Empire EFI CD.

  • @sn0le thanks man, i finally finished it this week! cheers

  • Goto porn is not on this list :D lol

I you do that you should have a good graphics card

  • When I've got 20 minutes left, my PC shuts down, reboots and hang up and it shows "Verifying DMI Pool DATA .........................."

    Has sb a solution?

    Thank you :)

  • Hi, im currently doing thid, my keyboard doesnt seem to work, whats this thing about " kexts " thans mate

  • @lukeyd2k9:

Did you enable USB Keyboard in the BIOS? 0:49 in the video.

Kexts are Kernel Extensions. Basically it is hardware drivers so that the operating system knows how to use certain pieces of hardware.

  • @sn0le its ps2 cable, it wont work once into hackintosh but a simple unplug and plug back in fixes it... thanks for tut anyway, clean install, had 2 hicups so had to re-install for 3rd time but all good :)

    thanks alot

  • @lukeyd2k9:

Oh, I see. OSX doesn't really support PS2 since no Macs come with PS2,

Not to be rude or anything but I find it funny that people still use PS/2 keyboards.

I havent used one in like 10 years my self. :)

  • @sn0le didnt think of that! my keyboard is 9 years old !!! works perfectly though, want an apple keyboard but the prices are steep... for a flaming keyboard..

anyway i was wondering if your mac app store worked? im on 10.6.6 but the apps seem to crash and it seems a few people have had this problem?

  • @lukeyd2k9:

They don't make keyboards as good as they did before. :)

    Old keyboards are practically indestructable.

I use a Logitech Ultra Flat for my Hackie and a Apple Wireless keyboard for my Mac Mini.

  • Hi!

I have one question: Does it Run on AMD processor, more specifically on AMD Athlon 64 x2?

    The tutorial is really nice!

  • @AlbusBrom:

It is possible, but I don't know how to do it.

And I am not sure which AMD CPUs that work.

As I understand it you need a modified kernel for OSX to do it.

  • Hi, i tried your method using Gigabyte ga X58 UDR bios FF

    I have 8400 GS VGA

    1 samsung harddrive

I cant seem to install the OS, it just keeps saying Installed Failed, restart and retry

could you please help me out please please.

  • @eijaz2006:

So you've been using Empire EFI?

Did you go and get a newer version of it?

Sometimes you can get installation failed, but for some reason it still works.

Just try booting the computer with your boot-CD after the installation finishes (and fails).

If it doesn't work, try out TonyMacx86. I see more and more people use that installation method.

    Good luck! :)

  • @eijaz2006 Don't forget to add the boot parameters: busratio=20

You could also use -v to get more info abt boot and what it doesn't like

  • Hi there very nice video, just a few questions im kinda noob at computers but so do you just download empire efi, then put it on a disk and insert it and boot from the cd and then when you put your os x cd in it would be just like your installing it on a mac? and then it's finished? Can anything go wrong? Thanks a lot. oh and also do I have to build a computer can I just do it on my netbook?

  • @carlosfrusciante1:

Empire EFI is one of many ways to install OSX on a PC.

Basically it is like you wrote. Burn Empire EFI to a CD, boot from it, swap to OSX Install DVD and install OSX like you would on any Mac.

After install, boot from Empire EFI CD and select the newly installed OS.

When OSX is booted you need to install myHack or similar software (bootloader).

Depending on hardware you might have to install kexts.

  • @carlosfrusciante1:

Nothing bad can happen to your hardware, but you might end up spending many hours to figure out how to get things working.

Some netbooks are known to be very compatible with OSX, so it might be possible for you to do it on your netbook, depending on what model you have.

  • "because goat porn is not on that list..."

    I loled... bad.

I have to say that it's a very good tutorial.

But, at the start, you created 1 big partition. right?

well, I'd like to know if it's possible to divide the HDD(s) in 2 smaller partitions to welcome Windows 7.

    Thank you for your response.

  • @mordet2:

Glad you like my twisted sense of humour. ;)

    I made one partition.

If you make 2 partitions you can install W7 as long as it is possible to install W7 on a disk that uses a GUID partition table instead of a MBR partition table.

As far as I know, it isn't possible. But I may be wrong.

And it is said that OSX requires the partition table to be GUID, and will not work with MBR.

That might not be entirely true.

I prefer using 2 HDD's. One with MBR for Windows and one with GUID for OSX.

  • @mordet2 Why not use 1 large disk and VirtualBox for W7. You get both concurrently; and windows, as we know, is more suited to goat porn

  • @sn0le

I was able to install osx but after installing myhack then rebooting i get a kernel panic. Have you ever encountered this kp early on?

  • @randyme1979:

    No, not that early.

I did get KP when I installed a LAN kext that didn't work.

Try installing a newer version of MyHack. The one on the Empire EFI 1.08 is getting pretty old.

  • Hi Body I Tried to install OSx10.6.3 retail version on a ga-x58a-ud5 Motherboard with a radeon HD 5770 Graphic card as you did with your mobo, I was able to install it in a 1tb HD but I can't reboot without Empire Cd and I Can't find the way to fix sound and graphics please help me if you know how to please, Thank you for all your help

  • @andariego1976:

Make sure you installed MyHack. If you don't install MyHack you don't have a bootloader, and won't be able to boot OSX without the Empire EFI CD.

You need a kext for sound. Both revisions of GA-X58A-UD5 uses Realtek ALC889 soundcard.

My motherboard uses ALC889A. You need the correct kext, or you can use VoodooHDA (generic kext).

When it comes to the videocard you need to check InsanelyMac's forum. They have a section for ATI videocards.

  • @sn0le

hi there... i've been trying to install the osx for a while now but no success... you the part where darth is on the screen then you replace dvd? mine only shows the cd but not the hard drive, unlike in your video... and i always get stuck in the "looks-like-crashing" part and says something about cannot locate root device... any idea? thanks!

  • @randyme1979:

If you're installing on a new unpartitioned/unformatted drive the drive won't show up at the Empire EFI screen.

    That's normal.

If it is stuck and saying waiting for root device make sure you connected both the DVD-ROM and the HDD to the Intel SATA-controller.

And make sure you set the SATA-controller in AHCI-mode.

  • i have everything installed but i have to use a usb keyboard and mouse instead of the laptop keyboard and mouse. Also it is not recognizing ethernet or wifi. Please help me i do not no what to do!

  • @TakessianGaren:

You can start by telling me what kind of laptop you have. ;)

  • @sn0le haha, i have an HP G60-507DX. I would really appreciate any help I can get for my problem!

  • @TakessianGaren:

I couldn't find any guides on that model.

Checked the drivers section at HP, and it seems that the model comes with either a Broadcom, Intel or Atheros WiFi-card.

There are drivers for all 3, so you need to check what you have, and find a kext for it.

Also, it uses Realtek RTL8101E LAN. So you need to find a kext that works.

It seems that the touchpad is connected to the motherboard via PS/2 interface.

OSX doesn't support PS/2, but I think there are kexts for that as well.

  • @sn0le THANK YOU! I know that my wifi card is a Atheros card. But where can i find kexts files for these?

  • @TakessianGaren:

If the info I found is correct, your WiFi card is a Atheros AR9285.

Found kexts for it at kexts . com

  • Please, help ive tried and tried. I got a hackintosh worlking fine on my laptops, but my desktop! I finnally found a code that worked, but i keep getting this error "waiting for root device" the way to fix this is by switching ACHI, but my mobo doesn't have that feature. What do i do? PLEASE HELP

  • @DaRkHunTer0125:

On my old motherboard I didn't have to use AHCI mode.

But it was a older motherboard that use Intel 945P chipset with an Intel ICH7 SATA-controller.

My Gigabyte EX58-UD5 has a Intel X58 chipset with an Intel ICH10R SATA-controller.

  • Hi, I'm building a hackintosh with your video, but I have this question:

What about the update: 10.6.3, 10.6.4, 10.6.5, 10.6.6? Have you had any problems?

How do you do the upgrade, like the 10.6.2 in your video?

    Thank you

  • @dejalos:

Updates are done like I did in my video.

Basically like you would on a Mac.

However. If you use a sleepenabler kext you'll have to remove it before you do an update.

After the update you need to find a sleepenabler kext that is compatible with the version of Mac OS you're running.

If you try using a 10.6.2 sleepenabler with 10.6.3 (as an example), Mac OS will crash and you'll see the kernel panic warning.

  • Hi, What do you think about IBOOT?

    Empire EFI vs iBoot?

    Thank you

  • @dejalos:

I haven't tested it my self.

But I know that many people think it is very good.

    :)

  • @SpikezHackz:

It depends on the installation method.

It worked fine for me to use 6GB with Empire EFI.

Other methods require that you use 4GB or less of RAM.

I think even some methods don't work if the videocard has "too much" RAM.

  • For the DVD ROM drive, are you using SATA or IDE?

  • @cgillyard:

    I used SATA.

On my old Hackintosh I used IDE. But it had a different Intel Chipset, so I guess it worked since OSX supports IDE (at least for some chipsets).

  • can you make a boot disk for Empire EFI to boot from a USB thumb drive instead of booting from a CD Rom?

  • @cgillyard:

Havent tried it, sop I don't know.

Could be possible, but you need to check out Prasys blog (the guy behind Empire EFI).

  • Dude, what if you want to install mac os x to a RAID0??!!! Please help me! I want to install it to a raid so I can't set the sata mode to AHCI as it won't recognize the raid. If I leave it set to raid, I get an error saying that it's still trying to read the root device. I've sent you a PM, read it please.

  • ok when i load this empire on my comp i see my other partitions , empire, and my external. but i cant boot from my external. is there any way to boot from that instead of booting from cd?? please answer fast. thanks

  • can you install mac server th e same way?

bdw: thid you have any problems with the network card, last minutes of your video card??

    mvh Norheim, du er kul!

  • @sn0le did not use any USB 3.0 ports.

Have not tried any other ports, but i dont think its the mouse, cuz i can move the mouse but its just not getting registeret.

    the bios version is FB?

  • @mkielsgaard:

  • @sn0le it's frezzes but i can move the mouse but it's haning...

no havent looked that up, but sounds wired if this is a gfx related problem...

  • When I get to the point when i need to select laugues I cant choose one?..

I can move the mouse, but nothing more than that..:S

Can this have anything to do with the hdd, theres been Windows 7 on the harddisk before?

Other than that i followed your guide from point to point so have doon exatly as you...

Thanks, you can pm me if you are intressted in msn or chat?

  • @mkielsgaard:

It doesn't matter if you've had Windows installed on the drive or not.

So you can only move the mouse, not click on anything?

Did you enable USB keyboard in BIOS btw?

  • @sn0le Yes I did enable it.

Its working now, i got os x installed, but now i frezzes with the keybord selection...

hm, wired should not take that long...

  • @sn0le @sn0le Yes I did enable it.

Its working now, i got os x installed, but now i frezzes with the keybord selection...

hm, wired should not take that long...

  • @mkielsgaard:

It freezes or just doesn't register the keyboard?

I had that happen to me on my Mac Mini with an Apple Wireless keyboard.

    I just skipped that part.

    But it shouldn't happen.

Since you have a HD4890, have you looked at Insanelymac to see if there is something special you need to get that card working?

  • @sn0le it's frezzes but i can move the mouse but it's haning...

no havent looked that up, but sounds wired if this is a gfx related problem...

  • @mkielsgaard:

Thats true. But you never know.

Did you use the USB3.0 ports?

Have you tried the mouse/keyboard on other USB-ports?

What BIOS version are you using? Is it the latest version?

  • do u already need a mac for this ?

  • @macintoshbaby:

No. There are install methods that require that you have a Mac and can prepare a USB-memory to do the install.

This, and some of the other methods available, doesn't require anything else than a computer to burn an image to a CD and to download the kexts and put them on a USB-memory.

  • hi i want to build this hacintosh

i have checked all my parts and there all compatable however i cant find a motherboard

can u please recommed some budget motherboard which will work ?

    thank you

  • @macintoshbaby:

    Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R.

Maybe not the cheapest motherboard, but it is one of the cheapest LGA1366 motherboards from Gigabyte.

It's about $200 at Newegg ($160 if you buy open box item).

  • @sn0le Great, but the hardware will work, just different kexts..

  • @mkielsgaard:

    Yep. :)

  • @sn0le Great!

Here's my setup can you tell my if this will work with your guide?

    Core i7 I7-930 8 MB (Intel Boxed)

    Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R

WD Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1 TB

    Club 3D Radeon PCI-E HD4890 1GB DDR5

    Corsair VX Series CMPSU-550VXEU 550Watt

    16399 Corsair DDR3 PC3-1333 4GB CL9 kit XMS3

    Thanks! :)

  • @mkielsgaard: CPU, RAM, PSU and HDD is fine. About the videocard, check Insanelymac's ATI forum. There you'll get clues on how to get it working (kexts). Motherboard is fine, but you may need other kexts than what I used. GA-X58A-UD3R: Realtek ALC889 (rev 1.0 and 2.0) Realtek RLT8111E (revision 2.0) and Realtek RLT8111D (rev 1.0) GA-EX58-UD5 (mine): Realtek ALC889A for sound and Realtek RLT8111D for LAN. So depending on the revision of your motherboard, you may need other kexts.
  • Do I need a Full version Mac Osx Snow leopard or is the upgrade version enough for the installation?

  • @mkielsgaard:

I used the upgrade DVD. The EULA states that you have to have a valid licence for OSX Leopard to use the upgrade DVD.

However, laws in my country states that a company can't introduce limitations to a product after you have bought it, so it is in a legal grey area.

If you buy Mac Box Set you get iLife (I recommend it) and iWork (haven't tried it) in addition to a full licence for Snow Leopard.

  • @sn0le So it will work, but its not 100% leagl? Is that the right way to understand it?

  • @mkielsgaard:

Yep, it will work like a charm.

The legality of it may vary depending on your countrys laws etc.

The EULA also states that you have the licence to run OSX on an Apple branded computer only, so you will already be "breaking" the EULA by installing it on a non-Apple computer.

  • @sn0le Great!

Here's my setup can you tell my if this will work with your guide?

    Core i7 I7-930 8 MB (Intel Boxed)

    Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R

WD Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1 TB

    Club 3D Radeon PCI-E HD4890 1GB DDR5

    Corsair VX Series CMPSU-550VXEU 550Watt

    16399 Corsair DDR3 PC3-1333 4GB CL9 kit XMS3

    Thanks! :)

  • everything you said worked! thanks very much!!!

  • @laurens557:

    Nice to hear. :)

  • At 6:15 Other Because Porn Is Not On The List.

  • @SpikezHackz:

Should work just fine with the GA-EX58-UD3R.

Several people have followed my vids and used that motherboard.

Haven't heard about any problems with updates not working.

Off course, you need to use a legit release of OSX and not a hacked distro.

    Btw, there's 3 versions/revisions of that Motherboard.

So if anyone has had problems, try to find out what revision they have.

  • @sn0le can you please tell me how i can go back to windows from my hackintosh if i dont want my hackintosh anymore? as i know i cant boot my win cd anymore? Please tell me sn0le!

  • @123ramzan:

If you don't want to use OSX anymore you simply install Windows like you normally would do on the computer.

If the CD doesn't boot try turning AHCI-mode off for your SATA-controller.

  • can you please tell me how i can go back to windows from my hackintosh if i dont want my hackintosh anymore? as i know i cant boot my win cd anymore?

  • hi

I get all the way to 1.55 in your video and I see the script running but the Empire efi logo is still up.. then the screen goes blank.. I'm using my MB pro installer.. I don't think this will work will it because of the OS is linked to the logic board in many cases right?

    Thanks for the great tutorial!!

  • if i am going to duel boot windows 7 and mac osc will the boot loader give me an option to which i want to boot into?

  • @dolmaface:

Yes. It should not be any problem. Bootloader will give you 2 options to boot from.

I would recommend having 2 separate drives though.

Easier to set up, and you'll still have one OS if something goes wrong with either of the HDD's.

  • @sn0le ya ive already got that covered, but its whether it will work for me is very small. I have tried to install ideneb, kalyway, and a bunch of other installers and they never work on my computer. I have core 2 quad, xfx 680i, 4 gbs corsair, and a gtx 260. I am crossing my fingers, and will i have to get the nforce kext?

  • @dolmaface:

Since you have a nForce chipset it will be harder to get OSX running rather than if you used a motherboard with an Intel chipset that is compatible with OSX.

But it is possible, I just Googled and saw that people have had Leopard running on that chipset.

But they used hacked distros, so updates from Apple will always be an issue since it is not a vanilla (unmodified) system.

  • dude, around the end, 9min and 8 seconds into the video the screen is on the serial ata ahci bios version ...yada yada...down at the bottom it said AHCI BIOS INSTALLED. I have been having issues with installing a scsi card and when booting up the screen first will say the AHCI BIOS IS NOT INSTALLED. How do I install AHCI BIOS?

  • @royalconcrete1:

    Thats a good question.

    So you've installed a SCSI-card to run SCSI-HDD's?

If so, that is way over my head, so I won't be able to help you much with that. :(

  • @sn0le I've installed a SCSI card to run a large format scanner EPSON Expression 836XL. and let me tell you it's been hell. I have three computers (different ages) and I've tried to install on all three. major hell. I'm quiting for now. There is something I dont know about SATA, IDE< and AHCI. I'm gonna have to learn more before I lose my religion. But I enjoyed your videos and I learned some stuff too. thanks.

  • @royalconcrete1:

Wow. Thats waaaay over my head. :D

I googled it for fun, at it seems like those old scanners have caused many Mac Pro users a few headaches.

Some threads mentioned using a Firewire to SCSI gadget.

But I have no idea if that would be a good solution to your problem.

Anyways. Good luck with that Epson.

Nice to hear that you got something good out of my videos. :)

  • @sn0le dude! I did it! 3 days and finally got this scanner hooked up and scanned. It was hell and I couldnt begin to help anyone, cause I dont know how I did it. Thought i would share since you were part of my struggle.

  • @royalconcrete1:

    Congrats! :)

  • I have got a Mac OS X Snow Leopard recovery DVD from my Mackbbok pro but it doesn´t boot with any bootloader because my computer reboots after load and I don´t know how to do.

  • @quinillo94:

The Recovery DVD that comes with a Mac only works on that spesific model.

It wouldn't even work on a newer/older Macbook Pro, iMac, Mac Mini, Macbook or Mac Pro.

You need to get a Retail version of Snow Leopard.

  • 8:40 I pissed in my pants at that! ROFL!

  • I can boot it from the empire EFI disk but when i try to use the my hack my laptop gets stuck on the "taking the iSuck out of iHack" screen, any suggestions?

  • @theyoyogangster1:

You should try to find a guide that is spesific to your laptop model.

My videoguide shows how to install OSX on my particular desktop motherboard.

  • do you have to do my hack?

  • @EPFAgentJetPackGuy:

    Technically no.

But then you'd have to install a bootloader yourself, plus a couple of other things (I think).

I just went with the Empire EFI install description and did it "by the book". ;)

  • true true but like her its hard to get cause there no apple store around here

  • where can u get a illegal copy of mac osx and also excellent video

  • @thedjtrollin:

I don't know. I figured that paying $29 is worth it because you will be 100% sure that the OS you install doesn't contain any "extras" like Trojans or keyloggers etc.

  • @sn0le yer i know but im from the uk and its a bit more exspences

  • @thedjtrollin:

    I know. It's £25 in the UK ($39).

Still, it is cheaper than here in Norway.

Here it is almost £28. ;)

  • how can i replace my hackintosh back to my old pc if i dont want the hackintosh anymore! please canm you do a guide for that aswell thanx

  • If i change to ACHI,everytime when i wanna boot my Windows OS,do i have to change back to IDE,again ???

  • @oviddiulanga:

If Windows was installed without AHCI enabled it will happen.

Thats why I did my dualboot videos to show how Win XP is installed with AHCI.

    Can't show for Vista and/or Windows 7 since I don't have them.

  • @sn0le

There is a trick to boot into my Win OS,with AHCI,without installing the Windows with AHCI enabled.

  • @oviddiulanga:

Have you found a trick or are you asking if there is a way to do it?

  • do you have to go throught the whole bios process if you just use a real version of OSX snow leapord

  • @ddhummer:

Well, I used a real version of OSX. ;)

In the BIOS you will need to set the SATA-controller to AHCI.

    The other stuff is optional.

I enable USB keyboard support so that I can use my USB-keyboard to be able to select stuff in the bootloader.

I disable the floppydrive because I don't have one. Not needed, but thats just me. ;)

  • @SpikezHackz:

I'm using F12 right now, and it hasn't given me any problems. :)

  • is there an empire efi website? I have to run it on the new asus and ati fermis and am not sure about compatibility.

  • @mshsz:

Yep. If you look at video #2, there are links in the description box of the video.

I saw that the Empire EFI link was broken, but I've updated it so it works now. :)

  • hey bro plz check ur inboxi need ur help , thx

  • buggy posting here.

So for testing, I just found out when i disconnect my HD, it finishes going through the port section (not stalling) and it WILL read my win7 DVD (load some files for "windows"), but NOT my store bought MacOS, nor iBoot or empireEFI. :-) my empire is shown as an Iso (not folders). my iBoot shows up as folders, and OS X as it should ( but none work). so in a nuthsell, my Win7 is detected in AHCI, but not the other 3. hmm, posting is a bit bugged. other response didn't post

  • @rednug1:

If you look at 6:46 in my video you can see the content of the Empire EFI CD.

There should be 2 folders. One called "Extra" and another called "usr".

If you do not see them, and only see the *.iso file it means you haven't burned the ISO correct.

The ISO is an image of a CD.

If you burn the ISO as a file to a CD, the CD will not boot.

I am guessing thats why your computer won't boot.

It sees no bootable CD, and no bootable HDD, because the SATA controller running in AHCI-mode.

  • @sn0le Heya Sn0le. I redid the CD so now it has the 2 folders, but i get the message "Detecting drives; Done; No drives found" & "Disk Boot Failure, Insert sys disk and press enter". same message as before actually. win7 still works, and that will be recognize. Even though the SATA controller is running in AHCI-mode, it does recognize the win7 DVD. peculiar. thank you for your help - i'll keep looking around for answers. perhaps it's problematic to my MB, or just the user ;-p

  • @rednug1:

Doublecheck that the BIOS is still set to DVD as first boot device.

And also, if you burned the CD on high speed, try burning it at the lowest speed possible.

Sometimes burning at high speed may cause the CD to have errors. :)

  • @sn0le Hey man. thx for your patients :) I found the prob. I followed some instructions online how to make a bootable DVD in OSX, "just drag and drop and burn".. I doubled checked online on this online and found it wasn't correct. doh! so..it's a user error :) i've gotten past step one, yay! haha, thx again!

  • @rednug1:

    Sweet! :)

    It's good to hear/read that you're making progress. :)

  • @sn0le Excellent guide. I was able to use this as a road map to get all my main components working on a GA-x58a-ud3 MB. I've yet to tested everything out (firewire, etc), but the crucial things seems to be fully operational (Wireless Network, Lan from RTGMac_v2.04, 9600 GT and onboard audio) Thanks again for taking the time to post and help. cheers!

  • @rednug1:

Glad to hear that you got that thing working. :)

    Cheers!

  • Enjoyed watching these videos. The plan was to buy the same MB but was unable to locate one so went with the GA-x58-ud3r. I've selected AHCI for raid mode and cd/DVD as firs boot,HD as 2nd etc.. Basically it hangs with a blinking cursor after Port-00: CDROM, HL-DT-STDVD-RAM GH22LS30. It does not continue to Port-01:no dev detected, and so forth like in your video @ 1:21 on. Any suggestions ? thanks!.

  • @rednug1:

Try putting the DVD-burner on Port 01 and the HDD on port 00.

For some reason it seems like your HDD isn't detected.

  • @sn0le - Thx for the response. I did try this and was going to do an OSx install over an existing working win7 (is this the issue?). it appears in AHCI mode it doesn't see it, but in IDE it's fine. I'll need another HD anyways so I'll report back my findings. If you think it's another issue, please let me know. Thx :-)

  • @rednug1:

Hard to say what the problem could be.

The HDD should turn up even if you have an existing Windows installation on it.

And your computer should boot the Empire EFI CD regardless.

Are you sure you burned the Empire EFI CD correctly, as an image?

When you open it do you see some folders or just the ISO-file?

It may also be that your DVD-drive doesn't support AHCI-mode.

To test around, just take out the HDD and see if the computer will boot from the Empire EFI CD on any port/setting.

  • @sn0le Hey there. When i pop in the EmpireEFI on my MB is shows itself as a CD icon on my desktop. When double click it, it opens up in another window as "EmpireEFI_v!08_i5.iso"

  • Comment removed

  • @sn0le This reply has been buggy, so if it show's up 2x, sorry. I did remove the HDD and while in AHCI mode, the DVD drive recognized my win7 DVD and started to install files off of it, but it does not recognize my store bought OSX nor iBOOT or EmpireEFI. the EmpireEFI i has an .iso extension. The iBoot i'm trying consist of couple of folders. I know i have a different MB (GA-x58-ud3r), so i appreciate you even throwing out suggestions. Thx!

  • i get memory allocation error

  • @bolojr:

During boot of Empire EFI, during install, after install?

  • @sn0le During Empire Efi

  • @sn0le Hey I got it to work,thanks!

  • @bolojr:

    Sweet. What was it?

  • @sn0le Wrong version of EFI =)

  • @sn0le I have another problem though,As soon as I pop in the mac disc and hit f5,the pc restarts. My motherboard is the gigabyte ex58 extreme

  • @bolojr:

What version of Empire EFI are you using now?

Did you wait 5-10 seconds after putting the DVD in before you hit F5?

Is the restart immidiate, or does the DVD spin up and then the PC restart?

If it spins up and then restarts I suspect that the DVD-ROM is not connected to the Intel SATA-controller.

  • @sn0le I waited till it updated and showed the Mac Istall disk in order for me to press f5,after that it loads up some white text infront of the EFI darth vader background and restarts.I was reading on the insanely mac forum and I saw that I can rip the dmg from the retail disc and then install it on an external hdd I have here. Then boot from that in EFI.That might work,do you know how to do this from windows? Thanks

  • @bolojr:

No. I've never had the need to go that route.

If it restarts when starting the installation theres a good chance that either the HDD or DVD (or both) are not connected to the correct SATA-ports.

There are 2 SATA-controllers on my board.

6 ports are on the Intel SATA-controller and 4 ports are on the JMicron SATA-Controller.

Only the Intel SATA-controller will work with the install.

Also, if AHCI mode isn't enabled, it won't work.

  • @sn0le Hi,yes on my board there are white sata ports and blues ones as well, which ones should I use?

  • @sn0le Hey I got it to install,I put all Sata connectors in the blue ports(Jmicron) and it was a breeze. Thanks!

  • @bolojr:

The Blue SATA-ports are the 6 ports that are on the Intel SATA-controller. ;)

  • @bolojr lol oh,well they worked when i connected them there.

  • @bolojr:

Hehe. Nice that you got it working. :)

  • @sn0le hehe. The msn messenger for mac is really shit though...

  • @bolojr:

Well, it works for textchat. But thats about it.

I hardly ever use it anyways.

For videochat I would highly recommend Skype. It also works well for text-chat. :)

  • @sn0le lol thank,yh its just that im transitioning from win 7 and the messenger oever there looks so sweet.I think I might install win 7 again and dual boot for a win-win =)

  • @bolojr:

Yeah. That would be a nice solution.

Windows 7 looks pretty sweet, and MSN Messenger for Windows is way better than the OSX version.

Microsoft should really put some effort in making a better MSN Messenger client for OSX.

There are other alternatives too, but I have never tried any of them.

  • @sn0le lol ive tried at least 3 today.Hey do you know how to install apps on another drive?'Coz Ive installed sl on my 30gb ssd but I dont want to install the apps here,I want them on my other drive which is alot bigger. Thanks

  • @bolojr:

    Never tried that.

I would assume you could drag the app to another drive rather than dragging it from the DMG to the applications folder.

Might not work for all apps, especially Apple's apps like iTunes etc.

Tried to put iTunes in a subfolder of the Applications folder.

Worked fine, but every time it was updated (software update) it would put iTunes at the original location, making it so that I had 2 iTunes apps on the machine.

  • He DONT got a floppy.... poor dude hahaha jkes mate

  • What do you do if you want a dual boot for regular PC use without bootcamp? Is it possible to boot as a regular PC ones the EFI has been installed?

  • @Olphus:

I've made a couple of videos that shows one of the many ways to dualboot a Hackintosh.

In short, you can put Windows (or Linux) on a separate HDD and use the machine like you would with Windows/Linux only.

  • does it have to be intel? i have amd

  • @noscopesnipa:

AMD is possible, but also more difficult.
