My wife says she’s ‘disappointed’ that I’ve cancelled her brother’s invitation to our daughter’s wedding next month.

Thing is, he was made redundant last month. I wish him all the best for the future, but in his present state I don’t want him around. Guys like that tend to spread their own failure, & I DON’T want him infecting our family with his sorry-ass hard luck stories.

We need to face this recession with optimism & enthusiasm, not sympathy with those who aren’t up to the mark.

@SandWave79 Capitalism didn't fail, just western capitalism. The problem with the rich and powerful over here is they can't think past filling their own pockets. The Chinese however put their country's interests before their own.

The west knows its time at the top is almost over. At the end of the day they are just sore because China have beat them at their own game. In a way I'm glad because western powers have become so arrogant. About time they got put in their place! :P

@sbowesuk lol...Thats the most common view of thingt these days. People have been saying america will collapse for almost 80 years now and that communism/socialism will take over the world. Fact is China has a GDP of 5 trillion and the US has a GDP of 14 trillion. The US, EU, and Japan combined have over 1/2 of the world GDP yet have less then 1/6 of the world population. China, India, and Russia have almost 1/2 of the world population and have less then 1/8 of the world GDP.

and America is not authoritarian so it's system does not "work" or "fail to work", it is not predetermined and has not been singular in it's course. America's success depends upon the character of it's people. it's values have changed radically in the last 50 years and this is the price.

The old definition of a recession - as heard above - is "two" quarters of consecutive growth (which in the past was revised to include any two quarters of negative growth in a given financial year). Now economists have redefined recession has "four" consecutive quarters of negative growth. Example of how stupid this is: if we have "three" quarters of negative growth, the media reports that we are NOT in recession. Misleading.

@RavenKL20 I feel your pain. Came back to the UK from America after working over there, but after 1 year I still can't find a job here in the UK.

What really pisses me off is the attitude I'm faced with when I go to sign on for welfare. They act as if being out of work is my fault and I'm not trying. The reality is that the country is in a complete mess, so obtaining skilled employment is extremely difficult. They're as much to blame as anyone.
