Nothing wrong with his Beethoven first sonata - it's a somewhat classical approach but fastidiously clean and superbly articulated. It's not the Appassionata after all!

lol barenboim is a crap musician, just look at his banal performance of beethoven sonata 1, if they give him a nobel prize i would freaking blow a gasket
@chopper0 But still you can't deny his extraordinary musical talent and the fact that he spent half of his life passing it on to the world as a performer (and I think Jackie had benefit out of that aswell) and the second half as an educator (in the largest sense of the word). And he didn't retire and went to drink coctails in Bahamas because - in his own words - music is not a profession, it's the way of life. Say what you want, but he's living it to the fullest!
What a wonderful analogy he uses for the way people should be communicating with one another: "to play in an orchestra in an intelligent way - is a lesson for life." The universal language of music is a brilliant way to break down barriers and effect positive change. Daniel Barenboim is an inspiration... it is so good to see a person with his intelligence, skills and experience, who also listens to his heart and acts with passion and courage.
Let's face it, he is RIGHT. Either there is a way of making Palestinians move around, work, study, vote, breath, live and die freely in shared Israeli/Palestinian territory or we might as well close shop and relocate Israel elsewhere.
Some Palestinians might love the alternative, but don't rejoice. A fully Palestinian Palestine would also be hell on Earth. Just look around the neighborhood.
@chopypopy uve been writing several comments on this video but i dont really see whats your opinion!? first insulting, now admiring barenboim?! and what i really cant believe is how u can say u dont support a whole people?? thats like being left alone by a women and hating all women world wide from then on.. chopypopy u should rethink that whole thing man... listen to barenboim: "we are admired and hated". thats exactly what u do.. hate and admire.. (waiting for your educated answer)
He is a good man and also humble. He knows that his beliefs are a proposal that many people can agree with and many people can disagree with. That is why he speaks more about respect than of tolerance, respect demands more of you... as for his marriage to Dupré, no one knows the depth of the pain he might have felt with her illness; that he kept for himself and it must be respected..
He is a one of the greatest musicians, and is has a great vision as can be seen in the interview he gave on BBC Hard Talk. Israelis should listen to him!
(The israeli society has become such a disaster in the last 25 years....)
Saulboyjt - it is precisely the attitudes of beasts such as yourself which would reduce this world to a hate-filled,narrow-minded war-zone. The decent, intelligent,Israelis and Palestinians want peace and stability, this will never be achieved whilst poisonous, ignorant prejudiced individuals like yourself are willing to perpetuate this terrible situation. Shame on you! Progress cannot happen without respect for humans as individuals-you attempt to dehumanise the Palestinians to justify your hate!
Just be careful not to become ill if you're married to him! He was a good musician but a selfish, deceitful man. Big deal that he was discreet about mistress and children by her...until after Jacqueline's tragic death - give the creep a medal. He made a mockery of the marital vows he took and he disgusts me.
Perhaps Daniel is a paradox, with questionable 'morality' in his personal life but taking an admirable stance where the Israeli/Palestinian conflict is concerned. He does not proclaim himself perfect or a saint but at least he is honourable and concerned enough to speak out against the conflict which can only be resolved by mutual respect and reaching a compromise which does not involve violence and hatred. One has to respect him for that, his betrayal of Jacqueline du Pre is another story.
Well articulated - I totally agree. His attitude, actions and intelligence speak louder than all the hatred, violence and myopic zealots keeping the fires stoked in the middle east conflict. As a Jew I respect the rights of Palestinians to have a just and peaceful co-existance with Israelis. Concessions and mutual respect are the prerequisites to ending this tragic situation. I ask of everyone who reads this to be respectful of the right to exist for Israelis and Palestinians !
Saulboyit - a just another stupid eastern European jew-hater - where did all such people get their hatred from? I doubt they have actually met many jews and similarly for muslims. I hope his music is better than his opinions? Even Wagner, depiste his antisemitic general opinions had a number of jewish friends that he valued and cherished It is hard to hate people you know! Very easy to hate pople you don't know.
Bravo to both Mr. Barenboim and Mike Gravel (see the last 30 seconds in the video) - two truly great people who both, in different ways, represent the true "moral majority".
Who is/are the future Barenboims, Rubinsteins, Argerich? Do we have a generation of musicians to take this places 40 years from today?

@SeryiVolk2009 Anybody who doesn't think Barenboim is a crap musician should be taken out and shot like a dog.
He should have his hands removed, and then the surgeon who performed the operation, he deserves a nobel prize.

You fascists bound to lose
You're bound to lose! You fascists!
Bound to lose
People of every colour marching side by side
Marching 'cross these fields where a million fascists died
You're bound to lose, you fascists bound to lose
I'm going into this battle, and take my union gun
We'll end this world of slavery before this battle's won
You're bound to lose, you fascists bound to lose
