  • if you deal with the right target/problem you most probably get into the right solution! Think..think.think..

  • I'm a recovered alcoholic, he;s correct that DARE doesn't work and the reason he gave is true.

    But he has no solution.

HE also doesn't comprehend the nature of the problem, most don't so no news there.

  • good vid

  • when he refers to addiction and mentions something along the lines of the get sick or die , go to hell , is he being funny or is he projecting his belief system to us?

  • It can be either, does it REALLY matter though? If he's a Christian and he said that it doesn't make his point any less valid.

  • he seems very nervous any times he's speaking to a camera. he probably just messed up.

  • ya he probabl;y did because hes been on camera many times already like in his 26+ episode psychology series called discovering psychology

  • i know he's been on camera many times. how do you think i know he seems nervous when doing so?

  • @lygophile

Tv: You get to rehearse and do over, and edit over the spots you messed up.

here he's out live, and people can see anything he does

  • lol i was jus about to comment pretty much the same thing lol nd from his tone on voice when he said it it cud really be either way and im catholic nd even i think that could easily be misconstrued in a way that diminishes the validity of his point but then again maybe im being to present oriented in my immediate response which disregarded his lifetime of contribution towards the higher echelons of psychology based awareness. lol o well i guess il get back to watching the rest of this video

  • Time drags in the casino for me when my wife is on the slots. Time stopped at 11:38 PM one evening at a party after I smoked a funny looking cigarette. I couldn't understand a thing anyone said to me for 8 days. I thought I left the earth. It was reassuring to see the moon outside the window. I figured I was on my own planet. Ooo! git away from my tomb.

  • he gets his speed from doing it for 30 some ot' years i saw him at Mesa Community College (Arizona) it changed the way i think about things a lot

  • first things last,, where does this guy get his speed,, i want some,, i never heard anyone talk so fast =P

  • This had little to do with "time" in such a general context.

  • lol ya yur kinda right

  • His work is very interesting.

  • why is the sound always low on these video's?

  • chopin65 he is not saying that children don't learn through play, he is saying that the children don't play in order to learn, they just play to have fun and learning about the world and their environment is a side effect of that. i would reconsider stating that the emeritus prof. of psychology at Stanford doesn't understand something.

  • So maybe a good anti-smoking campaign would be to focus on bad breath and stinky clothes? :)

  • @forger42 and that smoke cause wrinkles

  • @forger42 Yjere is no good anti smoking campaign, smoking is a lot less harmful than playing God, thinking that you know whats better for how otherws should live or thinking we can change other people.

Playing God is fatal to the mind because it gives power to the ego over the rational mind. Its very tempting and seductive to play God, I do it often enough.

But many people aren't aware of the danger, they play a dangerous game.

These talks are not very good.

  • @jonesgerard I see, so trying to come up with new solutions to societal problems is "playing God" and should be avoided? That's productive...

  • @forger42 Most people can't run their own lives, do you think they can run yours or that you know better how others should live?

Until people are sick of smacking their head against the wall they aren't teachable anyway, "convinced against their will, they are of the same opinion still".

  • youtube and the internet are also addictions. its great the first time, but its never as good after that. i haven't had a great internet experience lately, yet i go on facebook and youtube all the time. i should quit.

  • Descriptions of behavior are just that.

Addictions run wild in our culture.

All the descriptions will not put Humpty Dumpty back together again. Therapy is great start if you find the right therapy and therapist. The search for enlightenment is the seekers journey.

Addiction is a detour; the main road is a better choice.

  • D.A.R.E. is silly. i'd get annoyed whenever those strange men in costume would come to my school. they wanted to talk to us about drugs. they gave me the creeps.

  • I think DARE could be a good thing if it wasn't propaganda oreinted. They should just state facts instead of lies and over exagerations.

  • if the exaggerations won't hit people i doubt a "fact" that is not as threatening will...the point is the people who get addicted just can't think that far ahead...they "know" whats coming, but it isn't real to them...the present reality is the only reality that effects them in any meaningful way

  • i still tend to think people always relapse as soon as they have the opportunity. i don't play video games when school is really stressful. but whenever it's not too busy, there i go again, playing europa universalist or whatnot, eight hours a day.

  • There is nothing wrong with that though. Its a release for you. That's a very good thing. As long as its not all you do every day all day, and all your focused on is that, then you are good.

  • Wait, then you go to hell? How did hell get into the equation?

  • slntpsyc: he's just joking. chill dude.

  • I should've known. What a class clown.

  • what if you rotate the drugs and the banana split?

  • Well, someone's just proven Zimbardo right!

  • I'm a 44-year-old guilty of nicotine/YouTube/chapstick addiction. Cigarettes: I got into when I was in USAF tech school & during break, most people smoked. Chapstick addiction occured when my lips got so chapped during a tour in South Korea. YouTube addiction occurred when scanning this media 4 inappropriate material 4 my 10 (now 11) year old. Please, someone explain my addictions. Would love 2 rid myself of all!

  • the way to break any habit is to replace it with smt that brings greater happiness or fulfillment.

  • like a new and different vice!

  • Exactly. One that is socially acceptable and one people think is okay. Those types of things never change.

  • VivekRajcoomar: haven't found 1 yet. Any suggestions?

  • hobbies, sports, books, but really, the trick is to never over-indulge. Everything should b ok in moderation. But if u really want to kick a particular habit, i'd recommend either distancing yourself from peers who share that habit.. or just drink water, start a Massive multi-player online game, though that in itself will become an addiction, though its consequence might b more beneficial then say, gamblin/smokin/stripclub. learning to dance via utube seems to kill alotof time for me.
