  • Yup straight 8. Smoother than a V8.

  • not a v8 that's a V12 ASSHOLE!!

  • @emauele NO, It's 5.6L straight 8 supercharged.

Yes, the W125 Rekordwagen had V12 5.5L, but not the GP car :) ......

By the way, the Rekordwagen's V12 had 736hp(!) in 1938(!). It's still keeps the land speed record(432km/h) ahead of 2010's Bugatti Veyron Super Sport(428km/h). I think it is awesome....

  • I have found that usually, all the V's sound good, but to get the really EPIC sound, such as this, you must search among the engines that are not of V-design. Although they are harder to find when you can't search for a particular engine format.

  • Hermann Lang demonstrated it at Monaco at the 1965 GP. It had phenomenal power, and that noise ... it shook the town! Then it had to slow to a crawl behind some silly little pale blue barbie doll Peugeot saloons which were being paraded in formation across the track for publicity. The Benz just made it home without stalling or overheating.

  • they have managed to get the right fuel mix for the occasional run as used when the car first run in it's debut on the track

  • smell...i could hear the coughing afterwards though. ha ha. I have a 45 record of the same cars recorded in the 1950's on visit to England with Rudi Uhlenhuat issuing orders in the background. cool stuff!!!!

  • Silberpfeile is awesome!

  • must be the most expensive car in the world , cant be an other, now way

  • i bet this is the most expensive car in the world: anybody knows whats the value of this car????????

  • its up there for sure, but not the most expensive

  • These amazing cars had up to 650 horsepower, ran on over 80% Methanol and got just over 2 miles per gallon in fuel mileage!

  • Wow! Great sound when the engine starts so self idle, low and aggressive!

The Germans knew what they where doing!

  • tell that to the italians who think they invented advanced motorracing

when Mercedes had advanced fuel injection in F1 in 1954, all the others including Ferrari still used primitive carburettors

  • @W0mpa

    ..we still do... ;-))

  • @Fritztoons Amen to that!

  • @W0mpa

    And still do

  • i'll never forget the first time i saw and heard these cars and the smell from the fumes was intoxicating to say the least but my eyes were running and stinnging from the fumes hehehe

  • Forgett american v8... GERMAN v8 BABY!!! and this car is 70 years old

  • hate to disappoint you but this Mercedes W125 has a STRAIGHT 8

  • @3L3CTR0static Gorgeous car, great sound! ... but not a V8

  • @3L3CTR0static Yes, while German V8's are the business...this car has a Straight-8

  • @3L3CTR0static This is a straight 8 with a supercharger.

  • @3L3CTR0static it's not a V8, it's an Inline 8 ;)

  • A priceless beauty flexing her muscles.

Thankgod they had the sense to wheel her out of the Stuttgard museum for this rare appearence.

  • I love the cheer from the crowd, that says it all!

  • AMAZING!!!

  • omfg the exhaust Note is just beautiful :)

  • Wow what an incredible noise. Like a living thing made of metal, oil and gasoline

  • @erolorhun

Actually not gasoline/petrol but some alcohol based fuel.

Those kind of power outputs would have been impossible back then with normal petrol.

  • 646HP in the W125 was Caracciola's Championship winner!

  • no wonder they wooped the pants off everyone else, thats one tuff car!

  • nothing tame or road going in that noise just sheer volume and brutality

    i love it

  • Why is everyyone comparing dragsters to GP cars?

  • Hey baldbillyD! Yes your dick is much longer than anyones here!

And no, you can´t compare these vintage race cars and their way (no matter if Bentley, Ferrarie, Mercedes or BRM!)of hour long racining around very difficult rac tracks with top fuelers which go just straight a quarter mile.

  • thats because dragsters run on nitro methane

  • It´s a monster. And a dragster might get the 125 but only on a straight line. Just remember these were GP cars, and the drivers used to drive it to the limit, makinbg curves on pizza-cutter-style tires, and sometimes with rain.

  • These cars were high-tech technology 71 years ago. Where were your top fuel dragsters 71 years ago??

  • Nothing beats a fighter jet with its afterburner on,uh wait, nothing beats the noise the spaceshuttle makes at takeoff. Dragsters don't count,I classify their sounds as a noise, pretty much like a pneumatic rockdrill.

  • I checked the BRM. Though it doesn´t sound as powerful, it does sound beautiful. Is the Lancia D50 on the same page? I´ll look for it. Thanks for the tip. Great to find someone with similar likes. Sad to say, I´ve never stood next to anyone of these fabulous cars.

  • You´re probably right. A dragster has 1,500 hp, and will certainly drown the 125. It´s just that I love GP cars of that era. I had always wondered what they sounded like; when I checked this vid, I was truly amazed. Have you checked the 1935 Alfa vid?

  • autoaubion better IMO

  • That and the autounion v16 are the most powerful sounds I´ve ever heard. That monster had 646 hp. video pity too short. Thanks

  • Yeah! What a sound! Five stars!
