Deepest condolences, Australia. The pain of this is felt around the caring world. Every blessing to your nation as you try to rebuild. You are a remarkable and resilient people. I pray the pain will become bearable. Appalling tragedy.
my thoughts are with you all. its such a terrible thing what has happened down there. its amazing to see how we all pull together in drastic times. the sound of these bush fires is something thats truly frightening i have seen 4 where i live not on this scale though i also know of some people close by where i am that have come together and organised clothing food and household items. the generousity of the community has been over whelming 2 semis have been filled. Peace, hope and goodwill : )

That 12 yr old boy Jake, the son of the truck driver, is remarkable. Incredibly moving, the subtlety and perceptiveness of him, how he watches over his dad, the incredible love he has for his dad. Very moving. Nature and nurture - in 10, 20 yrs, that depth in him... I think he'll become known in some way; become an agent of change in some way.
Canada and Australia aren't that far apart we have the freezing fronts, and ice storm that take life we are so alike but on oppsite ends of the world. hope you guys make it through this tragic moment
True, but the population is much denser where these fires have occurred... it's not just "because their white", but rather because there are hundreds of towns that have been wiped off the map- Australia isn't just home to whites, there are plenty of other nationalities. Many of African wildfires occur where there are very few people, or where the people are isolated and possibly even unknown, so of course Australia's wildfires will be broadcast more widely.
I think he meant people losing their homes, families, friends, health and lifes through disasters happens in Africa all the time without the media even noticing it.
If a catastrophe happens all the time, people sooner or later get tired watching it. If it happens once, or only a few times, they can say:"oh, the poor people", do something good, fell better about themselves and get on with their lives without having to change anything.
So theses fires are man-made? Have they found the culprits yet?
I know how these people feel when they've lost their homes ): Last december there was a landslide that occurred here in Malaysia and many of us lost our homes too. But I guess this is different since its caused by some stupid arsonists.
Good luck, best wishes and lots of love to Marysville from all your friends in Kinglake...we are in this together

stuff like this happens all the time in Africa, but we never hear about it. Since they are white, we care.
