not really sure [then why am i posting then :p] but from what i know the extra is supposed to be very unbalanced which is what gives it is very maneuverable flight patterns.....very balanced=easy peasy, pretty flight......unbalanced= always fighting to be in control, rapid movements.
Say what? Extremely tail heavy planes are nearly impossible to fly, regardless of what type they are.
On my Lanier Extra 200s, it's a little over 1/3 of the wing, nearest to the fuse. It's actually something like 4.5 inches back from the leading edge, if I remember correctly.

Fly it under power until you're nearly on the runway, get it set up, and slowly cut the throttle. From there it's just practice.
