I am 82 yrs. old & never had the pleasure of hearing him live. What a thrill that would have been. I was born in Prov., R.I. & this talent of Frankie Carle makes me ever so proud. I wish I could have seen hin live!
I really hate the sweet bands, but once in awhile a group like Carl or S. Kay would come out with some reasonably fine material. A very nice and tasteful arrangement here! Of note for me is how the arranger voiced the brass-as there are only 3 trpts and 3 bones--so not a lot of room for "color" added notes to a chord. You tend to pick them up by fairly close spacing with trbn1 to trpt 3 and keeping to tutti sections for any brass sting. The swing bands of the middle 30's did lived off that.
