  • did noel play this on the recording or jimi?

  • @mamothcar1 I always thought it was Noel....but I'm not a 'Hendrix' buff, so it's just an assumption.

  • intro was wrong. hendrix plays Bb at the 6th string with the octave, so the bass does the same thing in Bb, not in E

  • @cbarrett34 Have you tried playing along with original and playing that? If so, what did that sound like?

  • @howtoplaybassdotcom i'm just telling you, as a guitar player, jimi plays the Bb and octave. are you telling me that noel is playing the e and octave at the same time jimi is playing the Bb and octave? you may be right. i play a little bass too, and you're right on with the verse bass lines, as jimi is playing the hendrix chord and then G major then A major, and then that little lick, the bass and guitar plays the same thing, and your pre solo break is right and solo.

  • gonna play it with my band and your lesson helped me a lot ! thanks !!

  • Sir, you are pronouncing 'pattern' wrong. You are pronouncing it 'patton.' You're welcome.

  • Thanks dude I'm still a beginner bass player and this really helps.

  • @milkman4797 Cool - Taking action is the surest way to making progress! Keep playing it so it becomes comfortalbe - and then go learn another tune!

  • Thanks for this man, this is the first Jimi song I have managed to learn. You are a great teacher!

  • @ma00101 Well...I wish that were true! I try my best - the main thing is that you took some action and put some of the things I'm trying to get across into action. Keep doing that!

  • @howtoplaybassdotcom well I'll echo milkman's comments, you do have a gift to get things across in a pretty plain fashion; I got most of purple haze down by ear (and a lot of fingerboard noodling) but this vid truly was an "ahhhh so that's how it goes" experience :) Most of my practice at the moment consists of reading some theory, and then grabbing some of your vids and playing along.

  • @gfimadcat Thanks for the kudos - the 'secret of my success' as it were is I teach lessons the way I would have liked to have lessons available back in the day when I was learning. It's that simple - some people like it, some people don't. The ones that do, I'm glad that it helps them.

  • @howtoplaybassdotcom Well it shows, I mean, honestly what I enjoy about this type of lesson is that it just gets down to the business at hand; we all want to play music. And I find that knowing how to play something and *then* going and finding the theory that goes with it lets you understand it much better (the theory, that is). Then again I've only been playing 9 months so... what do I know :D

  • would you be intersted on playing a 5 or 6 string bass?

  • @slargin50 Would yo be interested in endorsing me and sending me one for free? :) IN all seriousness though, I have a 5 string but rarely play it. And I'm not interested in a 6 string. What about you?

  • @howtoplaybassdotcom well I was just curious but no Im not intersted

  • rip noel redding

  • R.I.P Noel Redding

  • what kinda bass is that?

  • @vetrix line 6

  • @howtoplaybassdotcom u r awesum man just got a new bass and have a friend eho plays but dude ur awesum

  • 1:28 to start

  • The end of the verse bit is wrong it's. A: 9 7 5. 14 D:12 14 17.

  • Dude that is seriously very helpful. Sexy bass too!

  • @335Titan Glad you enjoyed it - keep learning songs and practicing!

  • Hi there! Could you help me? I've recently bought a bass, a Fender J-bass replica from Vintage. But when I fret frets nr 1 until 3 the whole string vibrates, because it lays upon the fret (the small iron bar) next to it. This causes an awkward 'buz' and kills your sound while playing. Do you know if this is because of the newness of the strings or is it my bass? It happens too on the 7+'th fret on the G-string. Will it go away after a while?

Keep on the good work! Greetings from Holland!

  • @TheBlueBandYTAccount Hey - it sounds like your 'action' is set too low. (Action is how high your strings are set above the fretboard). If you have a bass shop near you take it in and see if they can check out the action.

  • too much talking. "-_-
