He survived the Holocaust but with very little he lost everything his mother (burned to death or shot, i believe), his sister (same as his mother), and then his father (who died of being beaten and had Dysentery, from what his book said). He's lost everything his family, his faith and his freedom in the camp.

The Holocaust should never be forgotten or denied. But I lost respect for Wiesel when he supported brutal Israeli wars in Lebanon and Gaza. You can't denounce one atrocity and then support another.

He survived the Holocaust but with very little he lost everything his mother (burned to death or shot, i believe), his sister (same as his mother), and then his father (who died of being beaten and had Dysentery, from what his book said). He's lost everything his family, his faith and his freedom in the camp.

The tiny tattoos were applied to prevent identity theft and provide the campers with best possible medical care without making any fatal mistakes. "The Final Solution" was the Germans plan to export all of the jews and resolve all of the different territorial disputes to create peace. Quite possible that less than 100,000 jews died during entire WW2.

I guess Andrew you do not know the rules of war. Israel was attacked. It won the territory. In so doing, land that 3 faiths have as holy sites have been open to ALL 3 faiths since then. Israel has taken desert and made it into a blossoming land. The Palestinians who by the way left Israel because of their hatred of Jews can do the same but they would rather nurse a 4000 year old grudge. So did you want the U.S. to leave and give back the U.S. to the Indians too? IN war you do not draw back.

I can't help think of the comment "war is absurd". I realize Wiesel went through alot but I think that comment is absurd. Wasn't it the threat of war and war itself that saved the Jews and Europeans from extinction?

I would agree. But there are those who sound rational and decent, and those who are rational and decent. Therein lies the point i was originally making. Muslim organisations go "so-far" to give the impression of being non-radical. But by not going far enough, they show themselves to being disengenuous. All muslim org.s that I have seen to day have the mandate to support islam in its colonisation of countries, and this shows in the lack of this type of testamony shown here.

The Holocaust should never be forgotten or denied. But I lost respect for Wiesel when he supported brutal Israeli wars in Lebanon and Gaza. You can't denounce one atrocity and then support another.

Defending yourself is necessary or you may as well just commit suicide and die. Israel has great patience waiting for over a year before attacking the source of the rockets being lobbed into its homeland. If you do not see that you need much prayer.

I don't think breaking a ceasefire (which Isreal did on November 4), and bombing a shattered, rotting ghetto, targeting schools, hospitals and clinics counts as "defending yourself." Israel has an army stronger than NATO, I doubt Hamas poses much of a threat to its existance. Gaza was a war crime. Pure and simple. Just the fact that the occupation continues in the West Bank should be reason enough to stop the statist worship of the place.

Andrew I can see it is a waste of time to talk to you. YOU don't say ONE WORD about the thousands of rockets, EACH of which is a BREAKING of the agreements made by the Palestinians going back to the Oslo accords. To see one side perceived to be breaking an agreement and not seeing the other side suicide bombing, sending rockets into Israel to kill and maim civilians is pure blindness. Thinking is not truth. Truth is based on evidence.

Why Buchenwald and why Elie Wiesel? If we are to be lectured about the evils of genocide why not in Dresden, Wounded Knee, Nanking or Rwanda? Why draw a direct parellel between jews and genocide and infer all other suffering is some how less. Elie Wiesel is a great man and Buchenwald a death trap, yet, are we not marginalizing the rest of humanity and the endless toil and suffering we all endured and continue to suffer? How can this be possible?

Solisdeus, I see your point. I suppose part of the reason is that there is greater common feeling on this particular atrocity than there is others. Dresden was horrible. Nanking wouldn't have been a more appropriate venue of a Japanese leader's speech.

There is only one conflict where the one side, a democracy, allows all religions into their sacred sites. In the past under Arab control, only Muslims were allowed. ONE group threatened to drive the other into the sea. ONE group has continually offered peace but been attacked by suicide bombers & rockets. ONE side has not used the money from world countries to improve the lot of their people. By now, the world's aid COULD have made EVERY Palestinian a millionaire. Where are they?

You are ignoring the basic root of the problem here. ISREAL CONTINUES THE OCCUPATION. Both Arab groups, including major neighboring powers, have agreed to recognize Israel if it leaves the territories it is illegally occupying. Israel refuses because it has expansionist, colonial policies.

That's a malicious, patent lie. Those so called "occupied" territories weren't seized by Israel unwarrantably and on an expansionist whim. Heard of the Six Days War, cretin? Israel has EVERY right to defend itself from the mass murderers which are bred in Gaza and Judea and Samaria.

So why then is Israel obviously annexing the most fertile territories of the West Bank? Why is it expelling Arabs from East Jerusalem (Arabs who are not militants)? Read Jeremy Bowen's "Six Days" where he clearly shows how that war was a war of aggression by Israel meant to grab more land and territory. Israeli intelligence was well aware that Egypt's Nasser had niether the will or ability to actually invade Israel or attempt to "destroy" it.
