make it taller, at the hight it is now it would be more efficient just to walk all the way up on stairs, and there are WAY better designs for this.

Keep in mind that things like stairs, ladders, escalators, explosions, etc. can also raise you to higher elevations.

This IS a fairly compact and certainly unique method though (Seems alittle less then 100% success rate though)

Does this work for taller elevators? Doesn't the piston glitch (where pistons can be powered by a block standing 2 squares above them) kick in at some point?

Either way, genius idea to use the stairs that way - I used a ton of upward-facing pistons in a spiral, and pistons to push the player from one step to the next, but yours is much more compact and simple.

@RobotGymnast If you place the wire sideways next to the pistons, you can control them one at a time with fewer glitches. Took me a while to find that one out.

@TheRkelly16 Major problem is powering individual pistons one above another, Minecraft redstone wires power both block in front and one over it and it is important to switch pistons in correct order since extended pistons cannot be pulled down by another sticky piston, not to mention that block above pistom beeing moved by another piston would not move. It is possible to build lift made of only two pistons vertically, while horizontally everything works great.

@TheRkelly16 There are plenty of compact elevator methods. Most (piston elevators) are not as fast as other methods such as the minecart elevator method. Most dont bother to go to the extensive additional effort of makeing the elevator go down as it makes the redstone work 10x more complex when most people would rather jump into some water and call it a day.

mhm, if im running forward to in direction of the first stair i can reach stair level 4 or 5(but i need ~10)

I tried out your design but i still got some problems. i though the basic is 2 block shaft with with stairs attached to sticky pistons at the side. then i connected the pistons with the redstonesignal und added some delay(1 level of a repeater for each stair). But i only get 3 block high then stay at this stairlevel. Pls help, shall i add more delay for the following stair or smthelse?

Make sure the repeaters are on a two tick (one right click) delay.
