Also I know that a lot of church folk posting to this upload interpret this song a lot deeper than I do, but to me it's simply about love. He's singing about the type of love Jesus showed EVERYONE; regardless of color, sexual orientation, religion, class, etc. It's that unconditional love he's talking about here. This performance was from the Gospel Music Celebration: A Tribute To Bishop G.E. Patterson, live recording in Memphis, TN. The 2 disc CD and 1 DVD box set can be found in most music stores and in places like Walmart.
If someone could post the where, when, who, and whatever about this performance I and probably many others would greatly appreciate it. I was saved in the early 80's and Walter Hawkins was one of the first "anointed" ministers of music I was exposed to. This song still has the same anointing from my runnynose days. Thanks.

You have to give it to walter. You can look at him and tell he was sick. That shows a true love for God and dedication to go when God says go. He must have been in pain and his body tired but yet he is still singing and praising God with all his might. Most gospel singers nowadays and singers period if they got a little cold they shut down completely. Singers back in the day are of a totally different caliber. I love this song and Walter. Y didn't they just put the mic on the stand 4 the women?
It tickles me that Pastor Winans was so excited that he was up on his feet and standing directly in front before Bishop Hawkins made it to center stage..and did not move for the whole song. =D

Love Center Choir and lead vocalists also seem to be so very much into the spirit when they sing. I get this same feeling when i listen to any recorded music by the Hawkins...what I call pure anointing...they have been so consistent with this for decades.

One of my all time favorite Walter Hawkins songs, and the band and choir just flat out killed it! And no, I don't think Bishop Hawkins was telling Marvin Winans to sit down and the choir just seemed to enjoy singing and was not "smirking" throughout the song. My .02 worth.
Was Walter Hawkins discreetly signaling Marvin Winans to SIT DOWN at 0;57? There were members of the choir smirking at his behavior throughout the song! Why was he up in the first place?!

You have to give it to walter. You can look at him and tell he was sick. That shows a true love for God and dedication to go when God says go. He must have been in pain and his body tired but yet he is still singing and praising God with all his might. Most gospel singers nowadays and singers period if they got a little cold they shut down completely. Singers back in the day are of a totally different caliber. I love this song and Walter. Y didn't they just put the mic on the stand 4 the women?

It tickles me that Pastor Winans was so excited that he was up on his feet and standing directly in front before Bishop Hawkins made it to center stage..and did not move for the whole song. =D

@kps330 ---yes, but I would have liked for him to make it on back to his seat...and stop directing the music....LOL. However, that is one of my major pet-peeves.....I can't stand people singing and directing while in an ensemble...over emoting and whatnot....BUT, I DIGRESS.........LOL.

@LONGSKEET He's not directing.He's moving his arms on certain words that ring in his spirit. But I guess you know that. I guess. There is a guy in a tan suit directing the choir. He's up there for support to Walter. They are old friends.

i remember this song from when i was a lil kid running in chruch. now my point i have not be to chruch in 26 yrs or more.but wen you hear a great song you still know the words.but i still have the records from my child hood WHAT EVER IT IS GOD IS STILL STRONG AN I THANK HIM EVERYDAY FOR WAKING ME UP. THANK YOU LORD

In all of his live performances I just love watching both the choir/backup singers and the audience/congregation's expressions. There is always so much unity and oneness....like everyone is just so focused on the spirit of God's presence. Love Center Choir and lead vocalists also seem to be so very much into the spirit when they sing. I get this same feeling when i listen to any recorded music by the Hawkins...what I call pure anointing...they have been so consistent with this for decades.

One of my all time favorite Walter Hawkins songs, and the band and choir just flat out killed it! And no, I don't think Bishop Hawkins was telling Marvin Winans to sit down and the choir just seemed to enjoy singing and was not "smirking" throughout the song. My .02 worth.

I am so full I cannot even speak... he is sick here and he still has more than many twice his strength... what a blessing his music has been, is and will be...This was the music that grew my appreciation of church musicianship and singing... SAAANG IT BISHOP!!!
